it's not about being scared or making up ground. in last 3 years we've beaten Bama, ended up with an incomplete pass to win it on the road from the 2 yrd line, and lost by 6 at home with a chance to win on the last drive. and 2 of those 3 were with our backup QB. we're also 2-2 vs LSU last 4, with 3 of thise a backup QB.

My point was the original post beating your chests about playing for conf championships while a&m wasnt. i wonder hiw many times nd wouldve been playing for a conf championship in the Sec West the last 15 years when Bama and LSU were winning national championships and beating teams like ND by 20 or 30 points, like they did us.

there were times a&m was 3rd in its Division but ranked top 10. is what it is, or was.

This year there is no SEC West.

Give me a break, my guy. You guys have been mediocre for far longer than we were, going back to before your joining the SEC. We've had 10+ win seasons in 6 of the last 7 years. You know how far back A&M has to go to cobble together six 10+ win seasons? 1991

Alabama and LSU aren't holding you back, you just haven't been that good.

Now, I'll throw you a bone. Elko is a very good coach, we've seen first hand how he can turn a defense around. He made Duke a decent team, which is hard to do. Alabama just hit the reset button, and Kelly hasn't proven he can put a defense together at LSU yet. You've got an opportunity to catch up to Georgia, and Elko may be the one that can pull it off.

Just a little food for thought on the "12th Man." I'm not saying it won't be loud, I'm not saying it's not a tough place to play, but can Sampson and the rest of the beat stop acting like this is going to be some other worldly, out of body experience?

"Since 2017 the Texas A&M Aggies are just 19-10 at home against Power 5 opponents."
Pete went down to College Station earlier this summer to write an expose about the gameday atmosphere at Kyle Field and has been drinking the kool-aid ever since.

Brice stood on the sidelines during a game few years ago and it was so loud and hot that he puked up all three of his pulled pork sandwiches and two helpings of potato salad.

Make no mistake--ND will be walking into a hornet's nest on Saturday night! The 7th Circle of Hell would be a more welcoming place than having to deal with THE 12TH MAN tomorrow!!

ND was also the underdog and won w/ a backup QB in both games
Love that 2014 game. Pre-injury, Zaire was my guy. I was solidified when I saw him way down the field blocking for Folston on a TD run. What QB does that?

I often wonder what might have happened if Zaire doesn't get injured and the offense doesn't get revamped to suit Kizer.

Safety and O line are my two areas of concern. Hopefully the coaches did their job and got those guys ready. I also need to see that Denbrock has made some adjustments to enhance our personnel areas of strength.

Agree is not how I would particularly earmark this A&M game either. A legit national championship caliber team should easily dispatch this Aggies outfit around something like 28-13. Even if--OH NO OH NO--their fans are going to cheer against us-GASP-and also, we're their Super Bowl, they don't cheer against teams like Bama when they win there. Plus it's gonna be like hot and at night. Oh poor poor Marcus--what can he even do???

But as to your original point, I was merely correcting the poster that when ND is already out of national championship contention and is fighting for their lives to just salvage a mediocre season--I don't think it can really be considered a "big game".

Sometimes I can only conclude that lost here didn't start watching ND football until like circa the early 2000s. Because the flexes thrown out are always so strange.

Oh yeah, well we scored over 24 points that one time because our defense had two pick-6's and another pick inside the opponents 20! And then this other game we scored over 24 points against like the 80th ranked defense in the country! See--our offense doesn't suck in big games!!
I bet douches everywhere get offended when we call you a douche.

My favorite play was the Prosise TD run. Pure speed to beat all those future NFL defenders.

I stand by my pick for an Irish loss.

They will lose the game but will ultimately win by the experience for this young team. They will go on to win 10 of the next 11, finishing with a 10-2 record.
Then ND really must suck in your eyes because they play a pretty weak schedule and to lose 2 with that schedule would mean they must be pretty bad. Personally I think they roll.

The same thing that happened with Wimbush.

Kizer should have been the starter game 1 in 2016.

Why safety? Heard is solid and Schuler beat him out

We aren’t that young… starting 3 seniors on offense and 7 on D

Talking last year right? Yes, but an honest person could see we were the better team leading into that game and during … just choked on many levels especially at the end … not like 2022 where osu was clearly better
You should take that up with Vegas. I'll take Vegas over D3.

Definitely pre-game optimism/copium flowing on my end, but I feel everyone is star-gazing and Elko-glazing a bit in regards to the A&M defense. They've lost 10 of their 13 top tacklers. Their secondary is mid, at best. 10 transfers in the 2 deep defensively is a ton to mesh in game 1. All things equal, I'd be much more concerned if this game in late October than I am game 1. Maybe the Kyle Field advantage paired with less than stellar road performances by ND will prove me wrong.

In fairness to Elko's brief stint in 2017, don't forget how BAD the 2016 ND defense was and what he was dealing with when he got here.

He turned it around quickly despite those few poor performances. It was a different feel to our D almost instantly, you have to admit that.
Eh, most of that was remedied pretty quickly after BVG was fired. They adjusted and became pretty respectable after that. The Syracuse game was kind of a mess, but after that, they proceeded to give up 3, 17, 27, 28 and 6 in the following 5 games. They eventually lost steam against VT and were outmatched against a USC offense that was virtually unstoppable at that point.

They weren't good mind you, but they were a far cry from the absolutely pathetic unit we saw get lit up by the likes of bad teams like Texas, Michigan State and Duke.

TXAg, thanks for coming and contributing to our board. I appreciate your insight. Most ND fans are super cool. Sorry you got dragged into a dumb argument.

The past matters little to me. 2012 was great, but it was 12 years ago. To me, this year is what matters. I have all the respect in the world for Elko and crew, I think your QB is incredibly talented, and D line is ferocious. And if all your starters on that O line are 330, that's insane.

We have a lot of respect for your team. Also respect your traditions and your passionate fan base. Thanks for being a cool poster in enemy country. We have had some bad ones.

Good luck tomorrow. We are pretty confident in our chances also. Definitely a lot of unknowns that won't be seen until kickoff. Appreciate the discourse and good luck with the season...starting week 2 of course 😎

Kizer should have been the starter game 1 in 2016.
Wimbush was a little different.
Zaire clearly lost some speed after the injury. Wimbush was never injured and he was the starter day 1.
Wimbush struggled with his accuracy, which is why he got benched. Prior to injury Zaire ran in a more run heavy offense that utilized Read Option, after Kizer took over we tailored the offense to him and aired it out to Fuller more to stretch defenses and keep them honest. Zaire wasn't as equipped to run that style of offense.
