From Thomas, he likes NDs odds as of now. But not as clear cut favourite compared to Faraimo for example.

Still no timeframe, but Thomas think it'll be a ND-SCUM battle. Likes the Irish, but not enough to put in a prediction.

On Wu's timeframe, Sinclair said that NOBs family told him that they believe it would be better for him to announce his commitment if he knows for certain knows where he wants to go.

Sinclair also doesn't see ND missing on both Faraimo and NOB. They will get at least one, if not the pair.

I’m honestly not huge on Meadows today and I think he could easily not work out, but like … the program would be better off if it landed him so it could find that out.

It would definitely be a splash commitment. Big name with big potential and a high ranking. Gets people talking, gets '26 recruits to notice ND more.

ND defense didn’t lose them either of those games though. if you wanna win a championship you need an offense that can score 30 on anybody. almost every team who has ever won a playoff game scored 30+ points. our defense held alabama to seasons lows and held clemson to 31(mostly all after julian love went out injured). QB/Wr was the difference in those games. also our running backs in those games were dexter and kyren, so i don’t understand you including RB

What are we even arguing here?
Everyone knows/agrees the thing holding Notre Dame back every season in the post-2016 revival has been the offense. Especially the passing game. This is incontrovertible and stipulated by all.

2018 Clemson was better at all of those position groups than ND. The reason ND’s offense only scored three points is because Clemson’s historically good defensive line ran roughshod over an inexperienced offensive line right into an inexperienced QB while ND’s defense couldn’t stop their inexperienced QB because
1. He had better protection
2. He was a lot more talented despite being a first year starter

My only point is that we shouldn’t look at the game so reductively. It wasn’t just our passing game that was inferior to our opponent that night, they were a better team pretty much all around, even if the strength of our team was defense.

clemson did better offensively against Bama in the national championship. That inexperienced QB torched Bama and went on to be a top 10 pick. clemson never had elite offensive lines. when you have no threat of throwing the ball down the field defenses can just load the box on you and overwhelm the line of scrimmage; which has been the way teams have played against ND for nearly a decade now

Qb/Wr talent was the missing piece in ‘18 and ‘20 and why we ultimately didn’t compete in those games

And Alabama had a great WR room and couldn’t do anything against Clemson. My point is that there wasn’t one missing piece, Clemson had a better team in a number of ways. Our 2018 OLine was never going to hold up against Clemson’s DLine, whether we had Miles Boykin or Tim Brown at receiver. Clemson rushed for over 200 yards that night. They had a great quarterback, we had a fine one. We weren’t the better team at any particular area on the night.

most of that came after julian love got injured and they were able to stretch the field, goin over the top (with their play making WRs/QB). our defense had to change the way they played. If ND had a threatening passing game that could go over the top it would open up the entire offense/line of scrimmage. basic football 101.

Book struggled all year (entire career) pushing the ball downfield past 20 yards in 2018 due to hesitancy/timidiness and frankly he just wasn't very accurate

He had a couple neat little first few games against Wake, Stanford, and Va Tech when nobody had any film on him

But then teams started to clamp down because they knew he couldn't hurt them downfield and it was a slog on offense the rest of season

USC had multiple walkons/backups starting in the secondary and ND struggled the entire game because USC sold out on the short stuff

I doubt ND would have beat Michigan that year had they played last game of year with Book vs first game of year with Wimbush. With that said, I'm not saying moving off Wimbush was the wrong move in the grand scheme of the season. It's just that Book was never going to push ND over the top

Had Love stayed healthy entire game and ND had someone like Kizer or Clausen I think they would've fared much better against Clemson

Boykin and Claypool combo would always be in top 10% in any given year in college football. But probably would've needed a dude in the slot too instead of just Finke

Up until Alexander got here--ND was actually pulling in very very good talent at WR on a regular basis

Even their last two cycles are good enough to compete for national championship if Greathouse, Faison, Gilbert continue to develop and Williams develops into an alpha #1

If you slice out Alexander's tenure and then apparently now this cycle/Mike Brown--ND CAN recruit well enough at WR

That's what is making this apparent step back so frustrating

I just don't understand what decisions they're making but suffice to say it's been a cluster since Stuckey left and I don't believe that to be coincidence

If they go 0 for 3 here--I mean to me, it may sound like a hot take, but that's grounds for termination of Brown this upcoming offseason absent huge traction with 2026 and amazing on the field development during the season

We just can't afford another couple years like with Del. Will hold rest of team up. Just like how QB did under Long/Rees

I mean I have derailed numerous threads but this is one doesn't even make sense. At this point, I don't even want NOB because every time he takes the field I will be reminded of how poorly our offense played against Clemson in 2018

FIFY.
Stuckey appears to have been a better recruiter of high school WRs than Brown is but there’s a lot more to the job than that.

Clemson was way better than us that night in various facets but the biggest differentiator in recent years between us and truly elite teams has pretty consistently been the downfield passing game.

Not sure how NOB fixes any of this but I’m down for ideas.

someone posed the question of would you rather go 0/2 on NOB and Faraimo and go 3/3 on Meadows/Hines/Robinson or the opposite? the discussion turned into lack of talent at WR/Qb being what ND has lacked most in recent years compared to the top of CFB
