I'm all for free speech and the right to protest peacefully, but free speech doesn't include threats or incitements to violence, and the right to protest doesn't cover violence and vandalism and assault. I've seen enough of this in recent years that I'm about ready to let the police and National Guard start making believers of these assholes. You want to march and chant and hold up signs, I'll support you all day long, even if I disagree with your position, as long as you don't use violence, harassment, threats, or vandalism. You cross that line, and I'm ready to see the authorities start using rubber bullets, truncheons, tear gas or pepper spray, or whatever it takes to end this nonsense. Lock them up and make it hurt. No light fines. Put them in a work camp for a few months and double the sentence with each subsequent offense. Several months spreading asphalt, scrubbing buildings, pulling weeds, and doing something positive for society might change some behaviors. There need to be significant and EFFECTIVE consequences to rioting and vandalism and violence.
