Who the hell has Illinois had to win the Butkus besides Butkus?

Edit: I forgot how awesome it was to watch Paul Posluszny play football. That guy might be a top-5 non-ND CFB player for me.

Kevin Hardy and Dana Howard were back-to-back winners back in the mid 90s.

Don't forget that Ray Nitschke, the pride of Proviso East HS, was at Illinois a few years before Butkus. U of I has had some pretty decent defensive players over the years.......

I remember being at Kings Island with my (now ex) wife and her being pissed as I would be watching the 2018 ND-Standford game on my phone while we walked around the park that night. Coney and Tranquill were freaks that game.

At least you have your priorities straight.

Simeon Rice was even better on those defenses with Hardy and Howard. Oddly enough while named an All-American, Hardy was team MVP and Howard won the Butkus award.

No love for HM All-American and ND snub, Jack Holecek out of Marian Catholic? Statistically better than Hardy at ILL and better than Howard as a pro. If he doesn't have a couple of knee injuries at UofI (and the NFL), he may be the one we're talking about out of that foursome which was no doubt LBU of the first half of the 90's.

Holecek went on to become one of Illinois' all time HS coaches at Loyola. Coached former LS John Shannon and current PWO DB, Marty Auer.

JOK going on NOB's recent visit was a huge assist- I like where ND is sitting at and if it came down to ND/USC I think we can beat out USC.

If I had to pick a NC for this up and coming season I am picking OSU- they won big in the portal and getting Kelly as the OC is an upgrade (but how long does he stay in that position?).

If Day were to be let go, I think their first choice would be to go after Freeman; we want Day to stay at OSU.

The ND/OSU games the past 2 years were great for the sport, but neither game was a blow out and ND was competitive in both games.

The 2025 LB class has a chance to be special with NOB, Faraimo, and Sacca

Who would go to MI these days? As if those Jr High lunches they were serving to recruits weren't bad enough, now they're trotting out a clearance aisle Brian Urlacher impersonator to talk to LB's. Bad strategy when you can talk to the real one every Saturday as he stands with the Steeler Mafia on the ND sidelines.

He looks like he is about to give you a once in a lifetime deal on a barely used, 2002 Buick.

Can take it two ways.

Either all three teammates commit to Michigan in short order, or… all three teammates commit (to any school) in short order.

Well, I really want NOB and hope that he signs with the Irish. Good news is, I see Michigan falling back a lot in the next couple years. They cheated to get this title, and they won't have that anymore. They barely won games after the scandal. Also, Harbaugh is a good coach. After he leaves, his teams always fall back. Also, they finally play a real schedule. For the past few years, OSU was the only decent game on the schedule. Even last year in the playoffs they got a down Alabama and a not good Washington. Just a perfect lucky storm. I see them coming back to 8-4, 7-5 type years consistently.

Stanford eventually fell apart after Shaw ran out of Khakiman's recruits but he was borderline elite for 3 years (right?) afterwards.

I doubt My Sharona will Get the Knack.

Yeah, true. It won't be immediate. However, I think they will have a worse record just by playing a real schedule. I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to Texas, Oregon, USC, and OSU next year. I think they will beat Washington, as they lost even more that UM.
