I think that the fact that we've had a large amount of transfers/position switches at WR in the past 7 years also plays into things. From '17-'23 ND signed 21 WRs and the list below are the guys that either switched positions or transferred. Austin, Lenzy, Colzie, Thomas, Greathouse, and Smith are the only 6 who have not switched positions or transferred. Tyree counted as a RB but since he transferred after the WR switch i counted him on the list. Less than a 1/3 of the guys that signed in those years finished their career at WR at ND.

Robertson-Pos switch/Transfer
Armstrong-Pos switch/Transfer
Young-Transfer
Keys-Transfer
Wilkins-Transfer
Micah Jones-Transfer
Kendall Rahman-Transfer
Hart-Pos switch
Johnson- Transfer
Tyree-Transfer
Watts- Pos switch
Brunell-Transfer
Styles-Pos switch/Transfer
Merriweather-Transfer
James-Transfer
Flores-Transfer

I'd say maybe half of that list was 4* recruits but they obviously included TEs in that chart someone posted earlier.

Bama gets the last crack here, and may be the difference maker. Meadows' father said it was smart by Bama to get Derek on campus at the end of the official visiting period.

Meadows loves ND. Others around him do not. They want him at Bama.
Cool. Cool cool cool. Shades of Keon Keeley

ND is unique and not for everyone. We have to be one of the worst top tier schools when it comes to this (families/friends/uncles coming in and urging recruits not to go here).

Imagine sending your kid to a Catholic school to play HS football and then picking Bama over ND because you think a guy who went to the natty with some other guys players is a better situation for your son than ND and the guy who did even more the same season.

I'm very honest about the fact there are a lot of guys who will do just as good or better in life going to Big Box U but this is a guy who should be at ND and someday the Sr VP of Operations at Red Rock Resorts & Fetitta Capital after a long NFL career.

If ND gave high school recruits the “bag”, there will be more support from the uncles.

NIL isn’t an issue anymore for ND for kids that are ND fits (like Meadows). Some kids just won’t choose ND. Is what it is.

(To be clear I have no info specific to where ND stands in Meadows recruitment, just basing it off the above few posts)

Not saying this is the case with Meadows but IMO the 2 biggest hurdles for ND at this point for certain prospects is the vastly different culture as well as the biggest issue which is academic accountability ie actually having to go to class and get a real degree.

It’s gonna be a bummer watching this kid moss dudes and thinking what could have been.

Truly think we’re just 1-2 stud WRs away.

Either way, happy Father’s Day y’all!

At this point I just don't see Meadows being Irish. Would happily eat crow on this one, though.

Robinson, Hines, Hall, Burress, Bettis is a solid class.
ND was behind the 8 ball because Stuckey didn’t do them any favors on the way out & the guys they identified early and went after ended up blowing up nationally.

Realistically, you just need two to hit.
In the 24 class you need two to hit.
Same in 26 class.
If you get two hits every class you are in a great spot. You want 6-7 WRs who can play between recruiting & portal.
ND will probably get 1 WR every season in the portal.

This is a great way to put it. Remove the names and players. We just have to hit on 2 of these guys. Look at Bama recently. They have had a ton of high 4 star wrs.how many have hit?

I keep circling back to how awful I thought the portal and NIL were going to be for ND but it’s been a perceived success thus far at least on the portal side.
