The Masters is hands down my favorite sporting event. Life shuts down for me during the whole week. I watch the driving range sessions, the interviews, the practice round highlights....whatever I can get my hands on. The tournament airs on my TV from 8am to 6pm Thursday-Sunday. I. LOVE. IT.

This year we tried something different and I ordered The Taste of The Masters food kit. We threw a small Sunday viewing party at the house and everyone got to sample food from the kit. Pimento Cheese, Egg Salad, BBQ, chips, cookies, carmel popcorn, etc. And I even made some miniature Peach Ice Cream Sandwiches on a classic sugar cookie. Highly recommend getting this food kit next year. It's worth every penny, as no detail is overlooked with souvenir cups, coasters, mini golf pin flags, etc. It's amazing.

I got to go to three practice rounds back in 2018. I've been dying to go back. Hopeing next year is the year I get the chance to re-visit Augusta National. Truly a magnificent place.

Watching Scottie Scheffler play golf is ten times more entertaining than watching the NBA playoffs.

If you told me ten years ago that is statement I would make I would've told you to check into an insane asylum

I am fascinated by him. The things he does with his swing go against all the rules for golf swings but his control is phenomenal...and I haven't watched any NBA games in about three years...

Annual trip to Whistling Straits is tomorrow.
High 60's and WIND. Round is sandwiched between thunderstorms.

Better than last year: 40's, rain, and WIND.

I know everyone is dying to find out how my day went so...

Complete 180 weather wise. It was in the mid 70's, sunny, but still WIND!
25-30 mph with 40 mph+ gusts. Just brutal. Standing over the ball with your shirt flapping up your back made it very difficult to concentrate, especially on the elevated tees. The course is already a visually intimidating mind fuck, but this was another level. I putt with a line, but the ball wouldn't sit still on the green so I had to adjust on the fly.

My plan was to be as conservative as possible. Club up, swing smooth and easy to keep the spin down and hopefully penetrate the wind. Bogies were the goal with the hope of sneaking a few pars. The plan almost worked to perfection. My ball striking was great and my putting was better than expected with the forced changes in my routine. I sank multiple putts in the 5-10 foot range to save par.

One disaster hole: my drive was stuck on the side of a mound. The ball was chest high. I tried to just punch/baseball swing it out, but I shanked it into a bunker and my third shot was played from my knees. I ended up with a 200 yard shot into wind. Instead of playing it safe, I pulled out my 230 yard club (5 wood) and tried the hero shot. It missed right and rolled down a 25 foot hill into a collection area. I blame my caddie for not talking me out of it, lol. More bad things happened after that and it led to a double par 8.

7 pars
7 bogies
3 doubles
1 blow up hole
+17/89 but I played so much better than the score.

Just give me 30 minutes on a 500cc motocross bike and I'll be on my way.

Hope you didn't have to talk to any Packer fans.

I will be there in July. Any advice for the stay?

Playing Whistling and Irish. Will sneak in the Black Wolf likely too. then heading to Sand Valley. Tips for Sand Valley if you have been?

I live on the IL/WI line so it's just a 2 hour drive for me. I'd definitely stay in Sheboygan though especially if you're spending multiple days there. The Bull is pretty cool too if you have the time. Wisconsin is a golf paradise. You could spend a month here and not play all the courses.
Lawsonia, Washington County (double dip with Erin Hills), and Sentry World are a few of the lesser knowns. All worth your time.

I haven't been to Sand Valley yet, but I do have 40 acres of recreational/hunting land in Adams county if you want a break on hotel fees.
lol

BTW, The Irish is great value! Very difficult in its own right, you can ride so it's nice to play it after the Straits, and half the holes are sheltered from the wind. It's like $120 with a cart, free range balls, water, brats, and they typically have free bag tags at the first tee. After all the free stuff it's like a $60 round.

Awesome. Our fire truck manufacturer is in Appleton and will be back out in the fall. Will certainly check out the others you named. Playing Erin Hills on our way to the airport on our last day. I am looking forward to the trip. Then going to Ireland in August.

If anyone has any advice on Ballybunion, Tralee, Dooks, Old Head, and Waterville, I am all ears!

PGA Championship... the major that I think people often think the least about. Didn't help that it was in August all those years. I think the move to May was a smart one by the tour. I do like this one, seeing all the club pros being able to get a little spotlight, highlighting all the hard work they put in at their clubs. I watched two of the days of their championship earlier this month (or was it late April *Shrug*).

I went with Rory for the one and done I belong to. I was tempted by Clark, but I feel he is too boom or bust. Then there is always Brooks, but idk, I think I might save him for the US Open. Hoping to see Tiger make the cut again. His interview yesterday about his expectations, the course, etc. was really nice.

Sand Valley is a great experience! I played both courses a couple years ago. First tip is to wear sunscreen. There’s very little shade, and the back of my legs got pretty burned, which was unexpected. Greens fees and caddies are pretty expensive, but once you’re on the grounds, food, drink, etc. are very reasonably priced, which makes the experience a bit more enjoyable. The walks at SV aren’t nearly as arduous as Erin Hills or Straits, so you could probably get by without a caddie if you wanted, though they are certainly helpful for course knowledge.

Scottie Scheffler detained by police this AM after apparent traffic mix up in a chaotic scene. Wild.
This is WILD. Apparently a fan was fatally struck by a bus near the entrance. Scottie was coming in, thought the police vehicles and police were extra security, tried to go around everything, and a cop JUMPED on his car to make him stop. They then tried to drag him out of the car, and immediately arrested him placing him in a cruiser.

So this is apparently the only way for players, caddies, etc. to get into the venue, and he had no idea they weren't allowing anyone in. Just nuts all around.

Evidently has been freed and arrived at the course shortly after 9, about an hour ahead of his tee time.

Curious if he will be wearing an orange shirt today.

This will be fascinating to play out. So many different angles. It's clear it was a huge miscommunication, but I am sure it will be political.

I hope he rips like a -6 on the back 9.

Safe to say Valhalla can kiss having the PGA Championship goodbye for a few decades.
