so basically a CCG....?
If ND is good enough to get a bye, but scared of the 12 seed....c'mon...same same
Not scared, just don’t see why it’s worth making it tougher than it has to be. No matter how good we are, the 12 seed is not an automatic win. That’s not soft, it’s just reality.

Even if we’re great, the better team doesn’t always win. Weird shit happens and the ball can bounce a certain way sometimes.

In the long run the teams with the byes will win more championships than the teams without.

I want a championship for ND just as much as the rest of you do, and I just don’t think the route is unnecessarily taking on an extra ND -3 to -7 game in South Bend for the sake of “tradition”.

Yep. Both the Big Ten and SEC are going away from divisions and it will now be the best 2 teams play in the conference title game.

You will avoid situations like Michigan coasting to a Big Ten title by beating a mediocre at best team like Iowa or Purdue, or a few years back in the SEC, when Alabama would play Florida or Missouri.
I saw it on the CFB subreddit, but you can get, with these stupid, gigantic conferences, 4 teams in the B1G undefeated next year. So... you could still totally get Michigan in a title game against, say, Iowa. It didn't really solve anything, it made conferences a more convoluted mess.

flipside is UM-OSU could end up playing each other back to back
Less likely now with UW, Oregon and USC in the B1G fold, but that would've been the case quite a few times in the Harbaugh era, with the new conference format.

Just ran out to run an errand, and the local sports station 97.1 the Ticket (a lot of you are probably familiar with the Mike Valenti MSU rant following the 2006 monsoon game in E. Lansing) has been talking about ND and the new playoff format non-stop. They even went as far as to say that ND is at such a disadvantage that we "have to join a conference, full stop," and they even acted like they were speaking on behalf of the entire B1G conference by saying "we're full and ND is no longer welcome."

Valenti isn't on until 2, but I'm sure he'll follow the same song and dance; he HATES ND.

They can't seem to grasp that 1) Swarbrick helped to broker the deal and 2) Even in a scenario where we're ranked #1 at 12-0, we still get a bye during the conference championship.

Football fans are so pig-headed and delusional around here. It's maddening.

LOL, that station has done that take for a few years now. about 3 years ago I was on air with talking to that guy and said ND would be in the West part of the conference with Wisconsin, Iowa, etc and would win that side the majority of the time and he name dropped Iowa and Wisconsin being in the BIG championship game about the same amount of times.

That really doesn't make much sense at all; I think one of the biggest draws for ND ever joining the B1G (if ever) would be to get their traditional rivals back on the schedule, i.e. scUM, Sparty, and Purdue. Joining the B1G West wouldn't solve that. It's a moot point now, anyways.

They're always contradicting themselves. I remember when Desmond HOward was trying to make a stink about ND making the playoff in '18 and '20 without playing in the conference championship, then listening to Gator and Karsch had their show talking about how scUM should be a lock in 2022 regardless of the OSU outcome if they ended up losing and going 11-1.

I called in politely to point out the contradiction from Michigan fans, then hung up. ND fans keep receipts, I remember Desmond and other pundits whining about ND getting in at 12-0 in 2018 without a CCG, and again at 10-1 (covid shortened season, equivalent of 12-1 conference championship loser), only to say you think scUM now deserves the treatment you were crying about.

I don't get why people are celebrating this.

I didn't like Collinsworth in the booth either, but Hicks was MUCH worse. He was absolutely sleep-inducing, all while tag-teaming with Flutie to provide a clear bias against ND. Just stupidly boring. He announced football like it's a golf tournament.

Easily the worst head announcer for ND in my time. Which is saying a lot.

I thankfully watched the ND-USC game at a bar with the ND Club... I heard Jac and Garrett were abysmal

You guys actually listen to these clowns during the game? Mute is a great thing, we all k ow way more about what’s going on than any of these announcers, ha.

I feel like we got spoiled with Tirico and now nobody is good enough once we've had one of the best. Personally I didn't think Jac was that bad, I liked him more than Hammond.
If you look back, people bitched about Tirico too.

Tirico and Brees was the best combo we've ever had. Brees was anti ND, but called it pretty fair unlike Flutie.

I would've loved to see Tirico and Mayock together.

Didn't care for Brees. I thought Tirico and Dungy were the best duo, but apparently some people didn't like Dungy's energy. I thought Tirico brought enough.

Mayock is a doofus who sucks at analyzing football. Give me Garrett over him all day.

People who bitched about Tirico probably don't remember how bad things were and how bad things got after Tirico was replaced.

Pretty much every announcer/commentator tandem has been mediocre or flat out awful since I started watching.

Hammond had good tone and got excited, but knew f*ck all about the sport and if I had a dollar for every time he mispronounced somebody's name, I'd own Amazon.

Hicks was about as entertaining to listen to as listening to paint dry.

Collinsworth, similar to Hammond. Good energy, but his commentary was all over the place and his inexperience was painfully obvious.

Tirico was the perfect mix of energetic and knowledgable. We had it about as good as it got with him and Dungy.

to be honest they need to get the production better w/ the noise from the crowd and camera angles....its a piss poor product although WAY worse when presented only on peacock...then it is next to unbearable....i don't get why the views, clarity etc isn't what they have for the NFL on NBC....it's like night/day compared to ND games

Agree, this is the biggest issue. OSU game sounded quiet on TV due to their shit audio.

They film the ND games with the old cameras they used years ago for NFL games, like hand-me-downs.
