Yep, Deuce has always felt like a bit of a reach with high upside. But with Carr and Minchey ahead of him, that’s a risk you can take.

But, if Deuce bails, we will need a Plan B. You need to take a QB in every class just to consistently have three on the roster these days. Especially since we’re not in the market for sophomore/junior transfers.

I was skeptical when he committed and I remain skeptical. Major Blake Barnett vibes + he’s from Mississippi and I’m sorry but but AL/LA/MS is even worse of a fit than the west coast in terms of “flake rate” or “bust rate” for ND.
Only chance we have of landing him is due to the fact no one is locked into starting 2025 after 2024 assuming it’s Leonard all season 24

I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’s having second thoughts. Why is everyone acting like his decommitment is inevitable? He’s as close to a sure thing as we’ve had coming to play QB in my memory.

What In Deuce’s skill set or resume suggests he would (or even think he would) be able to walk in and start as a true freshman in 2025 over Carr/Minchey/Angeli?

Deuce is not nearly as polished as, say, Dante Moore was coming out of school. (and Dante struggled). He’s always seemed more like a high-ceiling developmental recruit for us. Plus he’d have to jump at least two other good QBs who are ahead of him.
I figured Deuce signed up for a year or two of learning first. But if he really wants to be the rare QB who starts as a true freshman, he probably should go elsewhere.

Because minchey has shown nothing, angeli could be solid but has limited talent… Carr just got on campus so we have no clue how close to ready…. Most likely that’s same scenario or less going into 2025… that means open competition for 2025, carr wins he can transfer… he’s not waiting 2-3 years

"Minchey has shown nothing"...you can stop reading after that
Yea minchey’s 2 for 2 college passing for 12 yards and 5 star accolades are scaring off top qb recruits
I mean cmon, minchey could be next mahomes but he hasn’t given anyone a reason to think he will be the starter at nd in 25… it’s why we probably will have 4 qbs competing in spring 25 for 25 starting spot…it’s why a top recruit like deuce is willing to come in because they know they have a shot to compete for early PT… if a qb not deuce is the real deal in 2025, lock to start 26, doubt he sticks

You realize that by the time Knight gets here Minchey with have 2 seasons under his belt and Carr will have one right?

Him and lberry have this thing about minchey for some reason even though no one has seen him play any meaningful minutes or have anything to do with him at practice

This is all true. Angeli seems solid but unspectacular. We don't know exactly what Minchey brings, or Carr, because we on the outside haven't seen enough. But the same is even more true of Knight.
And he is not one of those super-polished QBs who've been groomed for world domination since he was 6. If Deuce wins the job as a true freshman, it's because none of the others were good enough, and that's really the worst possible outcome for Notre Dame football.

And Angeli will be the presumptive starter with 3 seasons, right?
So why shoud Minchey stay?
And if Minchey transfers, why would Knight think that Angeli is better than Carr?
Maybe 25+ is a Carr vs Knight shoot-out.

And knight sat out half of the season so he isn’t going to be developed where he should be.

Minchey's shown about as much promise as your posting. Over time, both have the potential to be more than just promising.

He did a lot of pro miss tweets. And changed his pick to a black circle.

Seasons of development not really actual play

My point is 2025 most likely is open competition, deuce has a chance to be in that . Don’t think he would win as true frosh, but I believe it’s part of why he’s coming here. He’s not walking into a room with solidified 2025-2026 qb starter

OK. Fair. It's an open competition but it's also likely to be a stiff one. He'll be walking in to what - on paper anyway - would be our deepest QB room in a long time, with a higher-rated QB a year ahead of him. If Deuce thinks he'd win the job as a true freshman, well, I respect the confidence but expect he'll be disappointed.
Also, with the portal and everything else these days, I'd say the number of teams with a solidified 2025 starter is pretty small.

Hi. We're all working with limited info on Minchey, but yes I am low on him. Pin this.

It may be an open competition and assuming he comes, Deuce will be part of that, but he isn't going to be given serious consideration unless he learns to walk on water by then.

I am not saying he is going to be good I have no idea but to have an opinion on something you have no knowledge of makes no sense

I have my reasons but if you (or others) are already ruffled by someone not being high on him, no sense in explaining why. Everyone gets emotional.

I'm not high on him, hope I'm wrong and I'll leave it at that.

As solid as you can hope for but I will feel a lot better when Ole Miss and Alabama get their QBs.

Hard to come up with better quotes tbh. No trace of "right now I'm committed" or the other red flags you associate with a flip candidate. He tells all the schools that reach out that he's committed and not looking to flip, is planning to make sure he's on track for EE the next time he visits, and some other reassuring quotes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Idk how much that necessarily matters though its certainly not ideal.

I dont think its anything like..say...Tyler Buchner missing his sophomore and senior season.

Or the NFL equivalent, Trey Lance having one year of starting experience since he graduated high school.
