Yikes
Go back and reread the posts. I’ll take missing the point for $500 Alex. Our resident world recognized music aficionado telling us Beethoven wasn't a great musician.
I don’t listen to musicians based on their politics. I couldn’t care less. You, however; sound like you’d be upset if one of your favorite musicians was a closet conservativeGreat conservative musicians:
Nope. I still enjoy the Pistols even though Johnny has gone off his rocker.I don’t listen to musicians based on their politics. I couldn’t care less. You, however; sound like you’d be upset if one of your favorite musicians was a closet conservative
Example: I love the songwriting & musicianship of acts like Jason Isbell and Steve Earle. But I disagree w/ their world outlook and their political stances.
If your goal in life is division I could see it being funny. I see holidays as a time for unity and family. NYE is a world holiday not a democratic holiday or a time to plant your flag. It’s like how at family gatherings they say don’t talk about politics.Nope. I still enjoy the Pistols even though Johnny has gone off his rocker.
Just find the conservative outrage over Green Day to be hilarious. Conservatism doesn’t lend itself to supporting the arts.
You may need to direct your hilarity towards the millennials & Gen Z because I’m not seeing this “conservative outrage” you speak of. Again, why would conservatives ever think a pop band spoke on their behalf? Green Day had some catchy tunes but they’re Lollipop Punk so not sure why a leftist or a conservative would admire them for their “views”.Nope. I still enjoy the Pistols even though Johnny has gone off his rocker.

This puritan angle is interesting after joking about me shooting ropes at pictures of Obama. I can take it and have a good laugh with it. But let’s not pretend that we’re above having a laugh at the other side.If your goal in life is division I could see it being funny. I see holidays as a time for unity and family. Not too many millennials or zoomers watching Fox News - Green Day reworks hit song lyrics to trash 'MAGA agenda' during 'Dick Clark's New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ on ABC | Fox NewsYou may need to direct your hilarity towards the millennials & Gen Z because I’m not seeing this “conservative outrage” you speak of. Punk is punk. Sex Pistols, The Clash, Pennywise, The Ramones, Suicidal Tendencies, Iggy & the Stooges, etc. They’re more anarchists than corporate Dems.
Regarding the Pistols. Johnny has ALWAYS been off his rocker. Billie Jo got his snaggles fixed when they went platinum…not exactly punk rock.
I think that is difference. You can take it, congrats on your stability. It probably would have been a bit cringy if I said that on a different platform… for example, live TV with the world tuning in to watch some balls drop. This puritan angle is interesting after joking about me shooting ropes at pictures of Obama. I can take it and have a good laugh with it. But let’s not pretend that we’re above having a laugh at the other side.
Gene Simmons was a pro vaccination. Scratch him off the list.Just off the top of my head Gene Simmons, Kid Rock, LL Cool J, Elvis, Alice Cooper, Charlie Daniels
Excellent explanation and definition.
Your post makes no sense. Plenty of conservatives are pro vaccine and PLENTY of hippy lefties that aren’t.Gene Simmons was a pro vaccination. Scratch him off the list.
Younger Elvis was pretty chummy with LBJ.
He got more “conservative” the fatter, more drug addled and paranoid he got, so that kinda makes sense I guess.
If people like Elon have no incentive to make money you stop innovation.Oh no! Redistribution! Run for cover. Lol. Rich assholes have been gaming shit to allow resources to be redistributed upward for as long as I’ve been alive.
I’d be all for “equitable” health care and pensions. I know Elon Musk might not be able to blast his pet Chimpanzee to Mars, assholes like Kanye might have to give up “fast fashion” and the Kardashians might no longer be able to afford blanketing their southern California home in fake snow during the holidays as a result but I’d be willing to live with that trade off.

I’m not admiring them by any stretch, again, the point was that outlets like Fox were upset. I’m not going to purity test punk music, but I would not consider Green Day imo to be anything more than cookie cutter pg13 pop punk.
Counterpoint: LBJ would be considered a racist redneck today.Gene Simmons was a pro vaccination. Scratch him off the list.

Regardless, I prefer my music tastes w/ an edge. The best artists tend to have some demons whether it be from substance abuse, depression or both. If they can harness it all while controlling those demons, we get gifted w/ some phenomenal art. I do not care for Kanye West’s music but it seems as if he’s not taking his meds he can create like a motherfucker. Problem is it also leads him to do & say dumb shit. Look at Cobain, Staley, Cornell, Axl, Hank Williams Sr, Jim Morrison, Nina Simone, Bennington, Billie Holliday, Chet Baker, etc. Same goes for actors/actressess. Why any person, regardless of political stripe; would care about an artist’s political or cultural views is beyond me.
I will admit I have guilty pleasures when it comes to music such as Dean Martin, Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin & that whole crooner era.
Or you can take everything w/ a grain of salt & agree to disagree. The examples I listed, IMO; didn’t start their craft as a political statement. Same w/ acting (another art). To your first statement, we can say everything is political if we want. You seem to prefer that which is fine. I’d rather interact & enjoy folks from all backgrounds & opinions regardless of differences. Respect their POV but more importantly learn other perceptions to understand differences. We are not moist robots & that’s a good thing.Art is political, and a quintessential part of culture. By extension you will be aware of that artist's beliefs and to tell an artist to "shut up and art" is removing their agency over their craft.
I think LBJ would be called a commie in this day and age. He had more in common policy wise with Bernie Sanders than say Bill Clinton. Nixon who created the EPA and opened up relations with China would be a “woke” SJW RHINO or some shit.Counterpoint: LBJ would be considered a racist redneck today.

Fair point. I was thinking more of his crony capitalist side w/ the way he manipulated radio stations to his personal advantage in regards to wealth attainment (but they all do that on both sides) & then the Civil Rights Act which is debatable as to his motivation considering DDE tried a similar act and LBJ voted against it IIRC.I think LBJ would be called a commie in this day and age. Anyhow, I’m with you to a point on the art thing. I’ve always been interested in discovering and listening to all kinds of music irregardless of how dodgy the people creating it are but there some pretty off the wall and extreme music genres/groups out there.
An example would be Rock Against Communism and a band like Skrewdriver. For better or worse that band wrote a couple of the best punk rock songs ever and then went on to create modern day “white power” music as a genre.
Have you seen John Mulaney? Saw his recent special on Nextflix. That was hilarious. Nothing really political but I thought it was better than Chapelle’s most recent stuff.Fair point. 100% correct on Tricky Dick. Also gave us Title 9. One thing he was astute at is foreign policy. Not saying I agreed w/ everything but reading his book post presidency regarding the Cold War was really interesting. Even the worst of people had some good qualities.
I include standup comics as artists too & they really fascinate me. For example, I totally understand why so many are atheists when I realize their upbringing. Also, comedy has become “dangerous” again w/ the Freedom of Speech debate. So much so that you have comics that have thought of themselves as left of center being labeled right wing extemeists
I absolutely love listening to comics like Bill Burr, Daniel Tosh, Ricky Gervais, Chappelle, Mark Normand, Bill Hicks (RIP), Norm MacDonald, Sam Kinison (early stuff before the coke did him in), I know I’m leaving some out but they, for the most part; are equal opportunity offenders. They DGAF about who they offend. It’s the South Park formula where you can’t really tell where they’re coming from b/c they offend the right, the left & the middle. Now, do I have an idea where a lot of the aforementioned lean culturally or politcally? Sure…but I still laugh my ass off and that’s the ultimate goal for all parties.
Yes but not his latest stuff. I loved his bit on Ice-T‘s character on Law & Order. He got his start as one of the more prolific writers on staff at SNL.Have you seen John Mulaney? Saw his recent special on Nextflix. That was hilarious. Nothing really political but I thought it was better than Chapelle’s most recent stuff.
