This is over blown but maybe he should probably retire and get on with life. I remember him as a champion.

That was a late hit for sure but honestly if it’s on some running back instead of a QB and not in the middle of the Chargers sideline no one is talking about it.

I feel like Tillery had some maturity issues early in his time at ND - the thing when he sort of kicked a USC player was no good - but seemed like he outgrew them. Maybe not.

Listen to the way the Chargers announcers talk about him after the play. The disdain is obvious. They got a close up view of his character the first few years of his NFL career

Odd reading what I am reading based on this play lol. Was it late? Absolutely. Is it worth calling out his character? Nah.. unless you're just in the know of who he is really.

Imagine being called lazy/soft/dirty by every fanbase that you've ever played for but still being good enough to fuck around, be a first round pick and hang in the NFL for years lol.
75% of the anger towards him on here was because of the Hillary shirt. Politics above all for many in this country. Kid was a baller.

He's got a bad reputation in the NFL, no? A lot of people think he's a bit of a dirty player.
Why? Because he pushed a QB out of bounds? Only truly “dirty” play I’ve seen him involved in was against SC in 2016 or thereabouts. Football is a violent sport. Shit happens. He’s not even close to say Burfict in that regard.

I remember the Chargers announcers went off on him earlier this year. Sounds like everyone associated with the Chargers had a problem with him.

With that in mind, him kicking so much ass tonight is hilarious.

That had nothing to do with it for me. I enjoyed that he had interests outside of football. I didn’t like the dirty personal fouls. The beat writers also said he was miserable to talk to. Just disrespectful

There is no way you think this is true. I despised Hillary and loved Tillery but he was a dirty player. Late hits, kicking a kid after a head injury. I mean truly dirty. I like guys that play to the whistle and even a little past it. Sends a message to the other team there won't be any free yards.

Jerry had some savagely dirty plays at ND and in the NFL. I dislike that about Jerry. Still root for him and hope he makes good decisions moving forward.

When he was in college, anyway, I remember one dirty personal foul. Against USC late in a lost season when he was a freshman, the one Bluto mentioned. Were there others?
What I remember was a smart, quirky, kid with, yes, interests outside of football God forbid, who grew into being a warrior for us on some very good teams.
IDK about his time in the NFL but I'm often struck by how much negative energy some fans expend on players who don't play up to their expectations on draft day.

I think the biggest issues are that Tillery is known to be a very difficult and hostile person towards his team's beat and has a tendency to do the occasional bone-headed move.

So you've got a guy who always looks like he should be more dominant than he is, who does something borderline stupid, and has the team media ready to unload on him.

I’m with tillery on this. One is allowed to be annoyed by the media intrusion.

IMO, like Jarron Jones, Jerry should have been an OT instead of a DT. To this day still believe Jarron would have been a NFL OT if he didn’t transition after graduating. Unfortunately, ND is always hurting more for DL than OL (well except for 2024 I guess).

Terry is a super smart dude who is also gifted athletically and cares a little more about other things than football.

That can make a lot of people mad. (Not anyone on here necessarily, but man do people like him tend to piss the same type of people off.)

ND fans are usually above that sort of thing, but not always. Hahaha

I feel like there is a weird racial thing being danced around with these statements.

I've loved every single one of our really intelligent, hardworking athletes who've been a part of ND. Tillery, Tranquil, Hamilton, Kiser, Elmer, I know I'm skipping a lot of really intelligent guys but those are the ones that jump to mind. I've also loved any of our players who were closer to the national average. I respect the person for their actions.

I don't care about differing political or philosophical beliefs.

Here's the play that really rubbed me the wrong way and forced me to no longer make excuses for him:

For what it's worth, I met Tillery once the morning after 37-0 UM. He was a commit and had come up for the game. He saw me walking through the lobby in my ND gear and walked up to me to say "Go Irish". I remember there were lots of

If true, that's sort of a testament to how studly he is. Imagine going in the first round and it's not your best potential position.

Same for me. Didn't even know he wore a Hillary shirt, that doesn't change my opinion of him a bit even as a conservative.

This USC game is what really disappointed me when it came to Jerry. The Charges game didn't help either. I still support him and hope he does well, but the right way.

Anytime a guy is drafted in the 1st round, still playing the position after 6 years in the league, and has made almost $15M, I think he’s at the right position.
