They announced they’re going to the senior bowl and east west shrine bowl so they’re probably leaving.
They can change their mind and not play but unlikely

They can still play in it and then return to college football now though

Alright @notredomer23 it's time to do some updating

how-dare-you-james-franco.gif

Updated for Barnes and Carter leaving, Mitchell and Clark comin'. Obviously there's about 7 or 8 expected more but waiting on official word

Updated to 90 for additions and removals in recent days. Obviously something has to give at some of these positions such as 17 offensive linemen. Estime and Bertrand will be as well surely once they make it official.

Top to bottom, this is the healthiest looking roster ND has had in some time. Not necessarily the best, though it may end up that way.

They don't have to be at or below 85 schollys until fall camp, correct? So they have plenty of time to let things sort themselves out through spring ball. How many more transfers are they looking for? DL?

Yep. We were at 80 scholarship players at the start of the season this year and people were freaking out in the offseason when we were at over 90. The numbers always sort themselves out.

Yes 85 doesn’t matter until August. Don’t think we’re done but could be it until May

Love this thread. Time to start looking at it now. Will they take another portal player and if so who and where are the top targets?

I'm thinking they need a safety more than anywhere else. They have X and a bunch of unproven young pups. I believe they are a very well coached position group, but if we could get a championship level safety out there, that would be great.

I agree, I was just searching for this thread. Great thread this time of year!

We're at 88 right now. ND probably gets 4-5 more players in the portal and Safety is definitely a spot they need one. I think a few more guys leave either by Monday or post spring. A few OL and DL, not sure about Bauman, and I would love Devyn Ford back but you gotta think he wants to be more than a blocker and gunner on special teams. Is Kristofic coming back for a 6th to be a backup? Plus, there's always medicals.

Kristo made the trip to El Paso as a backup so he might be on board for another year, we aren't really deep at OL at least as far as experienced depth is concerned. Ford also stuck with the program thru the bowl season as a depth guy so he might be looking to get another year as well but with two RBs coming in and three guys ahead of him he's probably not going to be asked back.

Some guys who are optimistic about playing time won't be after the spring practices. That will lead to some transfers of guys we aren't even thinking of yet.

Yep. Also sixth-year guys with no discernable future in football may simply decide to hang it up. Which is fine.
We'll definitely be under 85 by August, it's more a question of how many more inbound transfers we land. Figure we need a safety and maybe an OL but aside from kicking tires on options for a third WR we don't seem to be actively pursuing anybody right now?

Ford is a valuable special teams guy - he will be back.

Updated roster has them at 87 counting Kia which I will always be skeptical of until he physically steps foot on campus in a little over a week. Transfer portal window is closed until the spring window. As always there will probably be a medical retirement or two.

We'll be lucky to be at 80 by kickoff of the A&M game.

I disagree because there will be another addition or two + Talich being added to scholarship, unless you are including injury in camp in that statement. I expect similar to this year with 82 or 83. I think they'll actually be unlucky if they're only at 80 come A&M.

Skeptical of Kia being physically capable or skeptical of him physically showing up at all? Assuming the former but jw.

Both for me. It’s probably just a me problem at this point because all the beat is saying he’s returning, but I wanna see him actually step foot on campus. Physically, I’m sure he will be behind but his mission was in North Carolina so hopefully it’s not THAT bad. He should have had ample access to a gym and proper nutrition.

I think with all the CBs coming in for his little bro that he will be at minimum showing up to campus but we'll see

Is this the most talented team (on paper) that we’ve had since 93?
I know we’ve been stronger in individual positions, but as a whole?

I think 2015 is more talented in hind sight with top end talent - especially on offense. Defense I think 2024 has the edge especially at corner and on the line. The 2015 team was Kelly’s shot at a national championship. Terrible defensive coordinator

TBD, right? I mean just look at the players and give me your thought:

2015 RBs:
Prosise and Adams & Dexter Williams

2024 RBs:
Love, Price, G. Payne, Young, A. Williams

2015 WRs:
Will Fuller, Chris Brown, Hunter Jr., Carlisle, Robinson

2024 WRs:
Kris Mitchell, B. Collins, J. Thomas, Faison, Greathouse, KK Smith, Colzie

2015 TEs:
Nic Weishar, Durham Smythe

2024 TEs:
Raridon, Flanagan, Evans, Sherwood, (freshmen who shouldn't play)

RBs - I lean towards 2024, even though 2015 was a lot of fun. Prosise was the truth (Love?), Adams could break long runs (Price?) and Dex had juice (Payne, Young, A. Williams).

WRs - Will Fuller skews everything but top to bottom, I like the 2024 room better. Imagine a healthy Jayden Thomas with Kris Mitchell and Faison in the slot. It's a bonus if Beaux Collins, Greathouse, KK, Colzie, (or one of the freshmen) takes a massive leap and forces themselves into designed touches.

TEs - 2024 and it's really not that close

The difference will be the QB and OL. If our OL can gel and give Leonard time, we should have a lot of options because our team speed has really improved. Tell me where you disagree.
