If we nail the WR coach hire and get Leonard then off season is saved IMO.. could be great with transfers and other moves so we will see.. yesterday was not great.. also lets see what these kids options are in the portal.. you never know...

Dont need to hire a receivers coach if you dont have any receivers. Simple math.
Your point has got me thinking. War Daddy is a TE guy. What if this Stuckey firing and WR mass exodus is all just a huge ploy by War Daddy to have the TEs take over complete control of the receiving duties and make ND truly TE U.

I mean he has done much dumber things then this, I wouldn't hold it past him

This isn’t game of thrones. It doesn’t benefit anyone to have shitty wr’s.

So next year when ND goes with the homegrown CJ Carr / Kenny Minchey at QB, does that mean that the millions of $ that had previously been used to land QB's in the portal can be re-allocated to other positions?

In all seriousness, this could be a game changer if ND ever gets to the point where they just need a couple position players to supplement their homegrown talent.

Well, ideally, either Minchey or Carr (who both appear to have higher ceiling than Angeli) steps into the No. 2 spot under Leonard this season and actually plays enough that by this time next year you feel confident that they can start, and that guy is then your presumptive starter for the next two or three seasons.
That should be the plan. I assume it is?
With his injury history and the way he runs the football, at least one of those two will get game reps.

Agree. I think chances are 50/50 Steve or Kenny get meaningful playing time at ND next year even with Leonard. Those chances must likely drop significantly if they transfer to any playoff level team not named ND. If they want to go play for a MAC school, then sure, they have a better shot. Pyne and Buchner should be a warning sign to others. Buchner could have helped us beat Ohio State in package situations (like when Sam failed to convert two drives coming short by 1 yard). If Buchner is still on the team, he’s making it harder for Freeman to go to the portal just based on the size of the QB room.

Agree with everything here.

Just adding that it will take an incredibly mature young man to sign up for the Buchner/Pyne hypotheticals you’ve described, especially if they believe in themselves/that they can get significant play time elsewhere.

“Hey, stick around and maybe you’ll get some play time if our QB gets hurt, or maybe a few package situations when needed”. Even if we don’t explicitly say this, it’s effectively the message.

Salerno can't come back.

Here are the grads: Devyn Ford, Kevin Bauman, Tosh Baker, Michael Carmody, Andrew Kristofic, Jordan Botelho, Howard Cross, Rylie Mills, Jack Kiser, Marist Liufau, JD Bertrand, Cam Hart, Clarence Lewis, Antonio Carter, Xavier Watts.

I think of those 16, 7-8 will probably depart. I expect Ford would return? But I don't really know. 1 or 2 of the OL. Botelho, Cross, Mills, Kiser, Carter, Watts.

As I type that out, the defense certainly looks exciting but the lack of veterans and leaders on offense is seriously concerning.
I was thinking the other day there is literally nobody on o that is an obvious captain candidate.
