Someone explain to me like I’m 5 why this guy is a good pick up.
My only sample is the game against him from this year and gamelogs, which both looked pretty pedestrian.

Would you have wanted Caleb Williams after his game against us?
I understand why a casual review would leave some hesitant.
Last year, he was considered a borderline first rounder. This year, he started off really well and then had his ankle nearly snapped by Howard Cross. With his mobility completely taken away, their offense had to be changed midseason. They don't have nearly the supporting staff/OL to shift the plan so dramatically and his numbers dipped as a result.
He's not going to be a 73% completion percentage, making tons of tight window throws. (at least not yet).
He is 100% a very athletic QB who has a strong enough arm to make all the throws needed at the college level to be competitive and win 10+ games/playoff contention. If our staff can help him improve, even incrementally, and we surround him with weapons, then we should have a very potent offense.
Defensive coordinators hate trying to contain dual threat QBs who have tons of weapons. It's not an easy proposition, especially if they have a very good OL. That's what we have to hope for, a really strong OL, capable of moving the LOS and giving Leonard time to make the right reads.
The truest test will be when Leonard faces a defense that is formidable, that loads the box and challenges him to beat them over the top. Then it becomes much more about the WRs winning their matchups, the TEs blocking/getting separation and the RBs on blitz pickup/routes out of the backfield. None of us knows how that would play out but Leonard looks like a really high quality QB capable of elevating his game even more.
