The news may be fake, but this dude seemed relatively legit in terms of being a Vandy beat guy. So it’d be weird AF for someone in his position to just completely make something up… but also, it’s 2023 and fake news to generate clicks is a thing.

If I'm Duke I'm calling Matt Campbell right now. He's available for a lot less than he would have been 3-4 years ago when he was the hottest thing happening. If I'm Matt Campbell, I'd like the opportunity to feast in the ACC.
Campbell has to move to a P2 school. Can't waste his resume on a school that will be outside the big money in his career.

He’s an undergrad with a podcast. Also he posted once and then moved on to other (Vandy) topics.

I read it more like a wishful thinking April Fools post than a serious attempt at breaking a major story.

Matt Campbell and Jason Candle have both stayed put for a long time. I assume there is a reason for that.

I can't believe Matt Campbell is a name for anyone? I guess if underachieving is your jam then go for it.
There was a time when I would have liked to have seen what he could do with more resources, but now I think he should just Beamer it and stay there as long as they'll have him.

The fact that Candle replaced him at Toledo and they're both still at those respective jobs is really odd in today's landscape.

Double dip on the cash. There’s no offset clause in his A&M buyout. And Nashville is a fun town.
No way Fisher goes to SEC bottom feeder, even if the report was accurate. Which I'm willing to bet it's not.

Matt Campbell has more winning seasons than Iowa State has had over the previous 40 years.

7-5 at Iowa State is overachieving.

The number is actually 27 previous seasons but who's counting besides me.

The odd thing is they went to 8 bowls in those 27 seasons.

Yep, that’s why I said it would be so Indiana. They keep hiring MAC coaches, but Wilson was at Oklahoma when IU grabbed him. Looking to hire from a top tier program hasn’t been their method.
I think he also got canned for playing kids who had concussions.

I believe that incident was a pretext. He was a very difficult personality that didn't have a lot of friends around Bloomington.

This.

Have never heard a good thing about him from multiple people in IU athletics' inner circle.

Elko is going to have to establish some rapport with Texas HS coaches almost immediately. Who he hires as his OC is also going to be paramount.
Actually Elko has a good rapport with Tx HS coaches. Next year's juniors on defense were his recruits, and defense will definitely be a strength next year. Elko knows what he's getting into. Not the flashy hire wanted by some Aggies, but has the capability of being in a good position for them. Will be interesting to see how it develops.

Establish, re-establish, whatever. He's top dog now, not DC.

Maybe there is no setoff in his buy-out. Also, if you sit out....your likelihood of getting a job later lessens. Keep active.
If I'm not mistaken many of those guarantees are written to ensure the contract dollar amount is met regardless of the source of the income. For instance A&M will pay all of it if he never coaches during the remaining years, but if Jimbo takes another job the make up the difference to "guarantee" the contract amount.

There is no offset language in Jimbo's contract, at least that's what I read on r/CFB

This now makes Troy Calhoun at Air Force the longest tenured G5 head coach.

Stockstill was hired in 2005, same year as Gundy and Whittingham. Only Ferentz has a longer tenure right now.
