Are they bringing Mullen back??
This would be a surprise. Mullen's name is just going to keep coming up until he's not on the Earth anymore. Same with Meyer.

Mullen's agent? You guessed it. The SEC Kingmaker himself, Jimmy Sexton.

Jamey Chadwell's contract at Liberty is about $4M per through 2030. Assuming there is a buyout, Mississippi State or anyone else is going to have to pay up to get him.

Lol this MF definitely leaving

I actually read the rest of the quote. He talks about how his kids are like 10-13 years old and settled. He said he's paid really well and supported at Oregon, and doesn't have the motivation to move elsewhere.

He's already got generational never work again if you don't want to money AND he has a program humming in the top 5-7 of CFB. They'll likely walk in to the Big 10 being one of the top 4 programs immediately so they've got a great path to the playoff, he's recruiting well and supported by some incredibly rich boosters. He just got a raise to $7,000,000 per year until 2028. At that point in money, is there really a difference in quality of life or wealth by whatever he'd get from TAMU? Sure, an extra couple of million is a lot more money, but what is that actually going to change for his life versus uprooting his entire family when he's basically got everything he should want in Oregon?

All valid points but you're missing Ego and SEC.

I don't think he leaves Oregon either, but I never discount the pull of the SEC, nor the ego of coaches to want to turn around programs under their watch and get the credit.

I'm committing this post to memory for when he leaves them for a mid tier SEC school

Ego and SEC is a big draw. Definitely give you that, but they are moving to the Big 10 who is set up to be the other big conference vs the SEC. So in my eyes that's basically a wash. Plus, Oregon has been winning at a higher clip than Texas A&M for a long time. TAMU has been going 8-5 almost every year for a decade, with a few sprinkles of 9 wins here or there. Oregon is pretty consistently pulling 10+ wins.

He could definitely leave and I'll eat crow if that's the case. But in my eyes, it just feels like a downgrade of an actual job even though it's a more "premier" program. Maybe it's just personal bias speaking.

If I'm Chadwell, I don't come near the Mississippi State job.

Hugh Freeze took the Liberty job and turned it into the Auburn gig. Chadwell can do better than MSU.

I'm wondering if Chadwell is holding out for something. Tennessee, South Carolina maybe. The dude can coach.

You're right, though, Stark Vegas might be the worst SEC job other than Vanderbilt.

I think Lanning stays at Oregon unless Alabama or Georgia call.

Mississippi State is a weird job. Leach was kind of perfect for it. Chadwell can do better eventually. If I am him I am waiting and maybe a job like Ole Miss opens this year or in the next few years and it's a better job than Mississippi State.

I am impressed with Dan Lanning in the sense that from what I can tell his best accomplishment to date is winning the Holiday Bowl. That could change in the next couple of months, but still, for him to be a commodity at 19-4 means he has garnered a reputation.

Guys like Chadwell and Rhett Lashlee should stay put. Miss State could do very well with someone like Willie Fritz or Jon Sumrall (Troy), and you'd think Miss State would make sense for either one of them as well.

I don't think Lashlee is leaving for MSU either. SMU is about to be in the ACC, and I think if he makes an SEC jump, it would be to Arkansas, his alma mater.

I'd rather live in Oregon than College Station

Different strokes, but the data disagrees. Texas is the 2nd most moved to state since 2020 (Florida wins), and conversely, Oregon is one of the states people are fleeing from at the highest rate.

Essentially, everyone's moving to Texas or the SEC country (we all know why).

I suspect you are correct. The status of some of these jobs is going to change very quickly in the next five years. SMU is looking like a pretty good deal now to the point that he'd be leaving for Arkansas out of sentiment. Money wise the only G5 guy making more is....Chadwell. Fritz is right below Lashlee in third.

SMU is becoming a Power Five school and they have support around the program throwing money all over the place. Mississippi State is a bad move for him in that respect.

Agreed. He’s in a good spot right now. That said, Sam Pittman is on very thin ice at UA. Lashlee played for Malzahn at Shiloh Christian and followed him to UA. I suspect there’s a mentor relationship there so maybe Gus dissuades him from jumping to F’ville out of sentiment only. They’ve done a horrible job w/ HC hires post-Petrino. Yurachek better make the right hire or it‘ll be his last.

A lot of talk about a return to Boise State for Bryan Harsin

I might put better money on that than Mullen going back to Miss State.

Lanning has two titles, right? His contribution at bama was minor but it was significant at Georgia - that defense was dominant.

He worked his way up quickly at Georgia which likely means he's a bright coach, recruits like a dog, or both. Kirby may look dumb with that ridiculous hair cut and visor but he seems to have a good eye for talent.

I've watched Oregon play a handful of games and I like their tempo, energy and effort. They appear to be very well coached. I'm not suggesting he's the next nick saban but I think you're downplaying his accomplishments.

Speaking specifically as a head coach. At 37 years old to be where he's at is very impressive, and he absolutely did work his way up considering where he started, but he's closing in on the second season he's had as a head coach. Anywhere. I think he ended up at Oregon via the traditional route in that he was a coordinator at a power that won some championships. That's the natural order of things. I'm just wondering if maybe it's better that he stay at Oregon for a couple more years and have a tangible win as a head coach before going to the big lebowski of hires on his journey. Maybe Oregon is it, though. It doesn't seem like money is an issue there.

Further there is the question that always follows guys like him: where those his defenses at UGA or where they Kirby Smarts? Smart had the same asked of him when he was under Saban all of those years. I don't begrudge Lanning in any way. I thought his having cameras in the locker room for his pregame speech against Colorado was hilarious and I cringed a few times during that Washington game only because I could see what he was doing but ultimately knew what was coming. I'm not a fan or a hater, really. I think he's probably a better coach than the guy who was at Oregon before him.

It fascinates me that there are people connecting him to jobs and would want the program they support to throw crazy millions of dollars at him predicated off of that. If Saban or Smart just suddenly called it a day, the idea that Lanning would be at the top of the list to replace either surprises me is all. It really feels to me like more and more of these hires are gambles worth tens of millions of dollars based off of potential.
