If you take away the first 4 warm ups games this season, Sam has not been close to meeting expectations.
I've seen him make some amazing throws and plays in the last 5 games (not enough), but i have hardly seen parker or our WRs due anything impressive until second half of pitt.

I agree Sam could/should be better, but I think WRs and Parker are a bigger issue.

They went against some pretty good defenses in that span too. IOL play hasn't been great and play calling didn't help him out either. He also has a weak receiving core and is in a brand new pro style system.

A random historical add-on: QBs are great for their teams depending what they are asked to do, what they have to work with, and whether they WIN with that mix. In the good old days we had some famous guys. Once in a while they made a mistake. Career-at-ND stats:
A. TDs (17)// INTs (11) : John Huarte
B. TDs (25)// INTs (25) : Joe Montana
C. TDs (31)// INTs (35) : Joe Theismann.
BOO BOO all those bums!!! .... but sir they won ... shut up you ass!!

The game changes wildly:
D. TDs (95)// INTs(39) : Brady Quinn <--- BOO!! 39 INTs!!!
E. TDs (60)// INTs (27) : Jimmy Clausen <--- 27 MISTAKES!!!
F. TDs (110)// INTs (41) : Sam I Am at WF
F. TDs (18)// INTs (5): Sam I Am at ND ... WHAT A BUM!!! How can we tolerate this!!!

Just for fun: (if such is even possible on IE)
G. TDs (61)// INTs (37) : Tommy Rees.

I can't take it anymore!!! KILL EVERYONE!!! .... mommy mommy

God has blessed us with Sam Hartman.
Revisit ND QBing for most of last decade+.
(Some good to OK, none Sam).

That is all.
NIL deals blessed us with Sam Hartman.
Take away Navy, TSU, NC State & CMU and his stats: 5 TDs/5 INTs. That's not much better than good to OK.
I'm aware of the subpar years of BK QB recruiting.
Take a deep breath. Were on the sidelines of the playoffs again.

If you look at Hartman's stats, his completion percentage, yards per attempt and QB rating are all at career highs this season. His TD/INT ratio is same or better than prior years. He's just throwing the ball half as often as he did at Wake.

Thank you.

I was going to post this in the Pitt post game thread with all the complaints about Hartman.

And he’s doing all of that with a huge negative at OC and no clear #1 WR.

The second pick was all on hartman, terrible decision. But parker got him into that spot by running a slow developing ISO for Rico to have to beat 1 on 1 coverage. Rico couldn't, hartman got sacked.

Rico is being asked to do things he just flat out can't and there's no reason to do that. He can block, good hands, catch short passes, scheme him open and he'll be fine. He can't straight up beat man coverage.

My point is Hartman is playing good despite our OC. Parker called a much better second half, and utilized a lot of PA. Hopefully we do that from the first series vs clemson.

I have been pleased with Hartman during his time at ND, he has shown nothing but class.

I expected better stats, but when he committed Rees was the OC, not Parker.

Other things to consider: it's not his fault that a WR hasn't stepped up, the injuries our WR's have had, and that ND mainly uses Merriweather as a deep threat WR.

I'd love to see over 250 yards passing and more than 3 TD's today.

Hartman has been everything one could hope for off the field. And on the field - while he may not be quite everything we’d hoped for - he has still been our best QB in a long time. Especially considering the rest of our offense.

Can we really say he’s clearly better than Book?

Hate to say it, but if I'm Michael Pratt and ND calls in the offseason I'd say give me 2 stud WR's from the portal and a good, proven OC and then we'll talk.

Hartman got broken by the OC. Parker has rendered one of the most statistically reliable QB’s in ACC history nearly useless.

And I don’t give a shit about the state of the WR room. Playcalling in ANY situation is traaaaaaash.

Yes. Can’t be Hartman’s own fault.

We lose today then I’m all for starting Minchey the rest of the year. Next week is senior day vs Wake, too. Sorry Sam.
