JON BUDMAYR, IOWA SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE HEAD COACH

Budmayr previously called plays at Colorado State in 2021 and is new to the Ferentz coaching tree. He arrived in 2022 as an analyst, working alongside the quarterbacks, and has since been promoted to a special assistant to
Kirk Ferentz. The former Wisconsin quarterback from 2009-11 is familiar with the Big Ten and, of course, the wants and needs of Ferentz.
JOE MOORHEAD, AKRON HEAD COACH

Would Moorhead leave his job as head coach in the MAC to call plays in the Power Five again? Akron is 1-7 and winless in the MAC after a 2-10 season in 2022, his first year leading the Zips.
Moorhead is highly regarded as one of the more creative schemers in the profession. He did wonders previously in the Big Ten at Penn State (2016-17), improving the offense as play-caller in the mid-2010s, which led him to the head-coaching gig at Mississippi State.
His offense at Penn State broke school records for points scored and passing yards twice (2016 and 2017) and the Nittany Lions won the Big Ten title in 2016. He was named 247Sports' Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 2016.
Kirk Ferentz tends to give coaches second chances. And if Moorhead sees the writing on the wall at Akron, this is a good phone call.
JIM ZEBROWSKI, KANSAS QUARTERBACKS COACH

Zebrowski is ready to become a Power Five play-caller. The Kansas quarterbacks coach has helped lift one of the worst programs in the sport to near the top of the Big 12, while mentoring quarterbacks
Jalon Daniels and
Jason Bean, and masterfully navigated Daniels' nagging injuries over the past two seasons. Zebrowski has coached Bean, the backup, to successful performances and most recently orchestrated the comeback victory against No. 6 Oklahoma, the program's first home win against a top-10 team since 1984.
Zebrowski has Big Ten experience, serving previously as Minnesota's quarterbacks coach from 2011-15. He also coached Buffalo's quarterbacks (2017-20), including
Kyle Vantrease and
Tyree Jackson. Jackson became the first quarterback in school history to earn All-MAC honors. Injuries led the Bulls to start three different quarterbacks in 2017, and yet the program still set the school record with 3,490 passing yards, the most in the MAC that season.
ANDREW SOWDER, MINNESOTA TIGHT ENDS COACH
(Photo: Dan Owen, 247Sports)
Andrew Sowder worked under offensive guru
Sean Lewis at Kent State, where he served as the offensive coordinator for five seasons (2018-22). The Flashes' offense in 2021 was one of the nation's best, ranking fourth in total offense while setting school records for passing yards and total offense. Lewis left Kent State as head coach to become
Deion Sanders' offensive coordinator at Colorado, and Sowder left to become Minnesota's tight ends coach.
Sowder also served as a play-caller at San Jose State, where he installed a spread offense, before joining Kent State in 2018. Lewis' "Flash Fast" offenses at Kent State were potent and built on a power run game. And if Sowder takes that with him to his next job, why can't the typical ground-and-pound Iowa Hawkeyes make it work?
NICK SHERIDAN, WASHINGTON TIGHT ENDS COACH
(Photo: M. Samek, 247Sports)
Sheridan has revived himself at Washington, where he has helped build one of the nation's most potent and explosive offenses. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Indiana, where he called plays after
Kalen DeBoer departed to become head coach at Fresno State. The Hoosiers were 6-2 in 2020 with quarterback
Michael Penix Jr., but Sheridan was fired in 2021 after a 2-10 season was marred by an injury to Penix, who later transferred to Washington where he is now a Heisman Trophy candidate.
GINO GUIDUGLI, NOTRE DAME QUARTERBACKS COACH

Gino Guidugli led Cincinnati's successful offense for five seasons and the Bearcats became the first Group of Five program to reach the College Football Playoff in 2021. Guidugli is now the quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame and is on his way to becoming a play-caller somewhere soon. He coached
Desmond Ridder to AAC player of the year honors in back-to-back seasons as the quarterback broke Guidugli's own school records at Cincinnati, where he played from 2011 through 2004.
Other names to remember, should their situations change: Scot Loeffler, Bowling Green head coach; Mike Neu, Ball State head coach.
