I played like the first 30 minutes of Starfield, and it looks and plays great... I'm always too tired at night to try and jump back in though, because I know what a time-sink it will be to master all the different stuff they have going on.

I was also a little intimidated by the options to join certain factions via the character creator, when you know little to nothing about them in the first place, so I did not pick any of those when determining my attributes. Was that a mistake?

Last... did you join the military on your play-through? I checked the "Welcome to New Atlantis" computer registry when you first get off of the train, and it seemed like there were big neon signs around the description of joining the military/security force or whatever it is. It blatantly said "we don't care if you picked a certain faction to start with, anyone can join." Makes me wonder if that quest line is supposed to be part of the intro to the game, outside of the main quest line with the group you join when you get to New Atlantis, whose name I have already forgotten since I only played the one time lol
Not to spoil the game but your in game choices to join certain Factions will alter your current outcomes as well as your crew but ultimately you can still join most if not any of the factions at any point and your crew may or may not like it.
Your constellation crew falls on the good side of all things but there are certainly numerous people out there you can bring on as crew that will join you for your criminal quests.

I’ve gone as bad as you can go so far but I still have options to do jobs for all the factions.

Finished up Suikoden 3 after playing the first two in the series. I previously started this game way back when it was released some 20 years ago and never finished it. It was my first foray into that world. Replaying it decades later I can see a bit why I soured on it. The story isn't quite as good as 2. It does some interesting things like the 3 split main characters, their perspective in similar historical events, and playing through those scenarios. At the same time that leads to some overlap and repetitiveness.

Like the previous titles Suikoden 3 suffers from the incredibly large cast of characters, 108 stars as always to possibly recruit (Although you're not forced to find them all, unless you want the best ending). While it's always nice having a large cast of characters, Suikoden forces you to often take certain characters for story purposes, and Suikoden 3 may be the worst one yet when it comes to those limitations. In many chapters you can recruit new characters, but you cannot use them. For the most part your parties are kind of static until Chapters 4 and 5. Suikoden 2 got around this a bit with the "Convoy" character spots where you could bring a character along, but they didn't take up a combat party spot, allowing you some flexibility. That doesn't get used much in Suikoden 3 sadly. The one nice thing is that the fixed parties allow for more attention on certain characters, so rather than a huge pool of shallow characters we have a huge pool of shallow characters along with a handful of very fleshed out individuals.

There seems to be a real lack of strong casters too, which is a departure from previous games. You do get some, but it's mostly a bit late in the game. Even so, the casters are a bit overshadowed by some incredibly hard hitting melee characters. Melee is king, especially if the character's names are Emily or Juan. The Runes just don't seem to hit as hard as previous games, and some Runes like Fire end up hurting your own characters quite a bit.

Overall the game is okay. It does a lot of good things, but I feel like the transition from 2D sprites to 3D sprites took a toll. The characters seemed somewhat less expressive than 2 as far as facial animations and emotions. In general the characters were a bit more conservative in their emotions, rather reserved save for a few hotheads like Hugo. Combat is okay, although I still prefer the 2D battlefield of the first games. One area that was lacking was the transition locations, the Plains and the Mountain Pass in particular. You're CONSTANTLY going back and forth from town to town and traipsing through these spots, and they're pretty bland and unimpressive. The plains are basically just flat maps of grass with a path, and the mountain pass is long as fuck. Gets real repetitive. You do get access to the Blinking Mirror and Viki teleportation to help combat this, but you don't get them until very late. I won't be missing the Yaza Plains.

Biggest gripe with the game is the story. The split protagonists make things a little interesting, but they don't save a mostly bland plot. There's definitely some continuity issues too, and some of the motives for character's actions are sketchy at best. Part of that could be translation issues, from what I understand the game is plagued a bit with that, and it doesn't help one of the project leads left halfway through. There are parts that feel like a real slog, and the game is seriously lacking a strong antagonist like the one in Suikoden 2.

I think the game was still enjoyable, I'm not sure where I'd rank it, probably 3rd among the first 3 in the series I've played, but I wouldn't say it's far past the first one. 2 is still the best thusfar, although I'm not sure it lives up to the major hype it got. I plan on finishing the series by playing Suikoden 4 and 5, but for now I think I'm going to take a break and replay some of the Breath of Fire games. I love some Capcom RPGs, and the trailers for Dragon's Dogma 2 have me fired up.

I've been playing a bit of Payday 3 as well, which just came out. As expected it's lacking a lot of content that Payday 2 had, but that was also a game that had 10 years of DLC. There's only about 7 heists to do right now, and the game was plauged the first week with server issues. There's been a lot of complaints about the progression system, which is tied to Challenges currently, as well as a weak Perk system. Supposedly the developers have heard these complaints and plan on retooling the game already, we'll see how that goes. Right now I can't recommend the game until it's a bit more stable and there's more heists to do. The heists that are available are fun, and the challenge of stealthing or going loud are equally difficult on higher levels, but there needs to be more available heists. It's great to play with a buddy or 3, excellent co-op. Here's a trailer if anyone is interested.

Looking back at some reviews, oddly enough Suikoden 3 got better marks from critics than Suikoden 2 did. IGN gave it a 9.4 while Gamespot gave it a 9.1. Having one of the protagonists be a female was cool, Chris was definitely one of my favorites characters from the series so far. I still think 3 was missing a strong antagonist like Luca Blight was in 2. Suikoden 2 has gotten all the hype over time though. Suikoden 4 looks like it was critically panned, not sure I'm looking forward to that one now.

No IrishLion unbiased review of Assassins' Creed Mirage. Dude slippin...

I’ve only been able to put a few hours into it thus far. But football season is over after this weekend, so expect a review next week 😂

It is a nice return to the general formula from ACII/Brotherhood so far imo, but I haven’t gotten deep enough to see how it holds up.

If we get a transfer QB he will want on board relatively quickly after the season in order to be included in the upcoming video game release for summer 2024, right? I’m guessing nowadays they could just update the game to include the roster additions though.

Last I heard, they’re still not even sure that players will be included/compensated. They’re working on the deals now.

Could end up being random/generic rosters that you can’t edit, unfortunately

Actually, I'll take it at this point. A decade without a college football game is too long.

College football Revamped will probably be superior come next summer

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You mean the NCAA14 version or whatever they figure out to do to the new game when it comes out?

Revamped is nice. I downloaded the most recent update this weekend and installed it last night to check it out now that football’s over lol. Too much Caleb Williams in the design for my taste, but the fact that they can alter the base game so much with their “generic” editors is crazy.

Getting Charlotte and James Madison in the game as if they were there the whole time is pretty cool, as is the way the revamped download works with the updated rosters. They also updated the score bug to have the pop-up stats in key situations like the real ESPN, which is a nice touch.

They also did something to ND’s helmets (or at least the nighttime lighting in the game) to where they no longer look brown during night games. It’s more a shiny copper now, but still better than the flat brown look the helmets had when you tried to play in primetime.

The problem is that they’ll never have enough control to put a tournament into the base game, and the transfer portal isn’t possible. Two big roadblocks that ultimately ruin the utility of NCAA14 once the new game comes out, even if the revamped guys care more and make the design continuously fresh.

I've put about 8 hours into Assassin's Creed Mirage over the past few nights...

The highest compliment I can pay the game is that it's like if they took the simplicity of the original game, and added some of the modern bells and whistles for gameplay, difficulty, and quality-of-life improvements, while simultaneously avoiding the RPG gear/skill/weapon overkill.

The map is relatively large, but not overdone. It's diverse, as you have the big city, some smaller outlying cities, and the "wilderness" area where they tuck in some cool hidden dungeons and other points of interest amidst the desert and oasis locations.

There is a skill tree, and there are some different sets of weapons and gear, but the customization is mainly siloed based on whether you want to be a warrior, a silent assassin, or a smooth criminal.

I have it set to "hard" difficulty, one of just three difficulty settings. It is TOUGH to play a mission fully stealth, the way I prefer. It's a pleasant surprise to find that I actually have to plan a unique entrance and path through enemy territory, and that I can't just go into open combat if all else fails and counter-kill everyone if I need to. The enemies don't wait to attack one-by-one... you will die to a sword in the back or the gut if you're playing on hard and trying to fight 6 guys at one time.

It feels like I'm ACTUALLY an assassin again. Making a stealth kill and then hightailing it out of the area over the rooftops feels good again.

Ubisoft #MadeAssassinsCreedGreatAgain imo

don't listen to him he's compromised by Ubisoft

No way Jose.

I'll admit that Valhalla was an ambitious, amazingly beautiful, deep, soulful piece of hot steaming shit.

It was so boring, and so big for no reason, and I really didn't care that much for any of the characters. The story was interesting... but it took 80 goddamn hours to get through it because of how far apart everything was.

I get it... they created a marvel of a video game map... but it sucked. Cut the spaces by a third and it might have been okay.

Origins felt huge, but was roughly a 50 hour game, 80 if you wanted to do both huge DLCs and do the platinum hunt.

Odyssey WAS huge, and was a 60 hour game, 115+ if you did the three big DLC's and the platinum hunt. But even that felt fun most of the time, despite the time sink.

Valhalla felt like a punishment.

Mirage is a return to the original format in terms of length and style. It's a legitimate breath of fresh air.

Been playing Lords of the Fallen its okay for a souls like but there are way to many enemies in this game compared to rest sites and health potions available. The largest issue i have had with it though is the horrible jump function its so janky

Once i finish this I will probably try lies of P. I heard it was fantastic

Just started Lies of P last night. I always have a bias toward anything souls-like but it’s been great so far. Will keep me busy for a bit while I wait for Elden Ring DLC.

Played any CK3 lately? I see they have a Persian flavor pack out soon

I havent bought it. Still scarred from CK2 having elite heirs die in fertilizer bombs or some nonsense.

I'll buy it in the next year I presume
