agree 100%…. There’s so many things bad we aren’t even discussing how bad our tackling is still

Brown, betrand, Burnham, Morrison… the form and effort to tackle is terrible
Maybe you notice it more because he tends to be in the open field but for as good a cover corner as he is, Morrison is not good at tackling.

Not sure if these have been posted but snap counts are always interesting, especially on D. A little more rotation than last week. But Sneed was in for just one play.

He put Kiser in and Kiser made a big mistake

Honestly can’t play junior or nana either, the drop off is way too big when they’re in. We also didn’t got to our typical rush package on third and long with sneed probably to contain Leonard running

Mickey got turned around for a 360 and gave up a huge play late… reserves don’t make plays, disappointing

Freeman is definitely learning and getting better. For example I think we had 11 men out the most of the time.
Watching the LSU game they seem to done for having 13 men out there on one play. That’s the way to do it.

Is it the case that the DC is usually the LB coach?
I think it has been that way for 5 years at least. I’d rather have a specialist LB coach and have the DC also be the special teams coach or something like that.

I don’t know if anyone already mentioned it, but Mr. Cross is an animal.

I sat right behind the bench on Saturday. I don't think I saw Golden speak one time to the LB's. When the offense was on the field he was writing on his little notecard and talking on his headset. Bullough was the one with the LB's on the board and talking

Saw the same, like our offense, we had a plan in the first half and it worked… duke adjusted and it looked like golden started guessing and hoping… safety blitz here, corner blitz there, none close to getting home

Junior and Mickey not progressing (regressing?) Was not on my year 2 bingo card for them.

Never liked juniors move to de, but I’m shocked that Mickey hasn’t taken a bigger step forward… he has improved though , because he set the bar so low last year

Seemed like it was the same last year with Laurinitais. We have three deeply experienced LBs so maybe that's why they've done it this way, but the fact that our primary linebackers coaches the last couple of seasons have been GAs - who were both themselves great players but still learning the art of coaching - may be a factor in the slow development of the youngsters.

Unfortunately Freeman has bigger fish to fry other then talking to the LBs durning the game.

Crazy game to be at. Only got 3 hours of sleep because there was a shootout outside my AirBnB at 3 in the morning on Saturday. Found the discarded gun in the front lawn the next morning at 7. Campus atmosphere was pretty great, I didn't really have any issues and the Duke fans near me in the stands were all pretty good to talk to during and after the game.

He talked to zeke a good bit, since he was almost single handedly stopping our offense

Not sure if we can be great with zeke at center, he might be a bigger weakness than our wr room, spindler had a rough game, I wonder if Billy will get some pt ever

Zeke and Rocco both noticeably got put on skates several times.

I think Rocco just needs to keep working on strength and technique.

Zeke is never gonna be a true power guy, but I think his issues were more mental. He knew he had a tough matchup in front of him and let it affect his pre-snap routine AND his play.

Rudolph gotta earn some money this week getting everyone on track mentally.

No, bk last 5 years of tenure pretty much beat every team we had more talent then… we had way more talent than duke

You could say Kelly wouldn’t have responded as well vs Ohio state
There were plenty of games just like this Duke game that ND had superior talent and just struggled through. None of them were against ranked teams on the road with a projected Day 1/2 QB either. I think we all forget this is college football and getting consistent high level play is very difficult.

These are literally off the top of my head and am probably missing some:
2017: Navy
2018: Ball St and Vandy
2019: Va Tech
2020: Louisville (most miserable game ever)
2021: Fl St, Toledo and Va Tech

Don’t disagree. I’m not a big Kelly fan, just don’t think freeman is a better coach yet. Better recruiter out the gate, especially skill

Is it? There were a lot out yesterday. Tobias…yeah, he is a liability, but Greathouse, Colzie, Tyree…that’s good enough talent right there.
...Yes, it is. Not even remotely debatable.

Greathouse didn't play yesterday and he's a true freshman, but because of how woefully thin on bodies ND is at receiver, he has to be thrust into major playing time. And now he's out, so that should be a dead giveaway of how bad things are at receiver.

Tyree only started playing receiver this spring. Colzie has been invisible since the Navy game. It's a dead giveaway that with Thomas and Greathouse out, he didn't play at all. Tobias has a case of the drops.

This is the problem. ND has ZERO upperclassmen with established experience and consistency on the field. This puts it on the underclassmen to produce now. It's not simply guys who are standing out and beating older guys for spots, they literally have nobody else to put in there.

To say it's a glaring weakness is an understatement. The position is out there flashing searchlights and blasting EDM at the opposition.

I don't think anybody is debating that Freeman is a better coach than Kelly was in-game.

But it's laughable to say this is the worst coached ND team, when we literally sat through seasons with Brian VanGorder running the defense.

Colzie’s injured too. Had his knee scoped a couple of weeks ago. They suggested that was why he has played so little since the first game or two. Sounded like he’d only be out a couple of weeks so hopefully back soon.

Colzie has been invisible since Navy, but in his defense for the Duke game, he had a knee scope and is out for awhile.

Didn't realize he got his knee scoped.

But that only further proves how glaring a weakness it is.

That said, I'm not sure how big a factor Colzie would be. Even when healthy, he didn't see the field a ton. Looked like Flores was ahead of him prior to the injury.

I would bet his knee has been troublesome for a while so that’s most likely why we haven’t seen much of a role after Navy…..probably tried to remedy the issue before deciding to go the surgical route.

It's too bad their QB got injured. A Duke win over FSU in 3 weeks would be really helpful for us
