Interview from Golden. Excerpt when asked about Rubio.
“I think (Donovan) Hinish, I think (Aidan) Keanaaina, I think (Jason) Onye — I think all of those guys made significant progress, and then played in the game as such,” Golden noted.

Interesting to see Aidan K. mentioned considered he had zero snaps against Navy. Hinish had 5 snaps but would think both he and Aidan would see more time against Tenn. State.

significant progress for Keanaaina means putting on full uniform without a weight-bearing ligament spontaneously evaporating or something

For the r/CFB readers out there, a poster named jimbobbypaul spent the offseason doing a great series that ranks FBS programs from 1-131 over the past 40 years.

Spoiler alert, ND comes in at #14, just behind LSU and ahead of Auburn.

To me, what is more interesting is that as part of the series he also ranks the top 50 teams of the past 40 years. Some things to note:
  1. 1995 Nebraska is #1.
  2. 1988 comes in at #30, the top ranked team from ND.
  3. As we know, ND has made the playoff twice. In those years, according to this ranking, ND got matched up against the 2nd (2018 Clemson) and 3rd (2020 Alabama) best teams of the past 40 years. Bad luck.

As interesting as it might be to football nerds, ranking teams from different eras against one another is a fools errand.

We're about where I expected us to be, but I think a few teams are too high. Miami has been mediocre at best for the last 20 years, how are they above us? We were just as good in the late 80s and early 90s while they stayed pretty strong till '01 before they fell off. We were better in the 2000s up through today. They've had ONE 10 win season in the last 20 years and five 6 win seasons or worse in those two decades. Makes no sense how they're 8 spots above us. I'd like to see how he's tabulating these numbers, smells like bullshit.

You are no fun.

Probably this:

Miami:
  • 353-139 record
  • 5 national titles
ND:
  • 332-159-2 record
  • 1 national title

Damn, I just checked the numbers and that looks right. They were a lot better for longer than I thought in the 80s and 90s. We didn't get good again till about '87, then pretty much dropped off around '95 till 2002 and then dropped off again from '07-'11 along with some shitty BK seasons like in 2016. Miami was just ridiculously good through almost all the 80s and 90s before dropping off in the 2000s till now. If it was over the last 20 years and not 40 we'd have their number.

How is ND 41st in defensive efficiency.
If you don’t give up a touchdown yet in the season, you are top 10.

That is definitely difficult to comprehend, especially when also thinking about the total yardage allowed in the first two games (I think around 325).

ESPN’s FPI is updated and the new projected win total is essentially 10-2. It started the year at 8.5-3.5. ND’s change to win the NC went from 2.5% to 5% WoW and a 10.6% chance to make the NC.

Pretty meaningless this early in the year but still nice to see.

Did anyone notice the graphic that was just on ESPN previewing our game vs. Duke? I may have misread, but it looks like it said 13 national championships (vs. 0 for Duke). Haven't they always given us 11?

We claim 11, but we could claim 34 if we counted like A&M and some other schools.

According to Prister, the Shamrock Series game in 2024 will probably be versus Army in November, maybe at Yankee Stadium

Kinda lame. Especially since we're already playing at MetLife against Navy

I was hoping they'd find a better site, but sounds like ND will make an official announcement soon. A warmer location like Vegas in November would've made a lot more sense. There are literally no appealing home games next year - too bad the Shamrock game doesn't help

Has anyone been to a football game at Yankee Stadium? I don't really get the appeal of playing a football game in a baseball stadium, but I don't watch baseball so maybe I'm biased
