Desantis is such a sleezeball piece of shit.

I'd vote for Burgum, Christie, or Haley. Desantis can fuck off. The Indian dude is a joke. The rest are wastes of podiums.

Haley bodying this dude lol.
You mean the grifting anti-vax Trump-ball-chortler turned out to not be able to hold his own on a debate stage? Wild! Vivek will start his own metaverse with Elon in like 8ish months.

Good nights for Ron, Christie, and Burgum of all people. Pence is good at this sorta things and was in 2020 so I'm not shocked.. but he isn't going anywhere. Expected more from Scott and Hailey. Just my opinion. Others are free to disagree.

I could see why the media and Trump love to go after DeSantis. Haley did well, as did Pence. Pence is actually funny but too stoic on stage.
Christie is in it to attack, not win.
Scott was bad. Vivek was worse. Asa was boring.

Burgum would be a smart pick, but a little unpolished.

Cut my boy some slack, homeboy was rocking the stage with a freshly torn Achilles.

Not just torn he fully ruptured it! That's one tough SOB.

I thought Desantis had a terrible night. Came off canned and rehearsed and any time he got pushback he seemed flustered.

Haley, Pence, and Christie did the best IMO.

Vivek is a crazy person or the worlds biggest grifter. CNN had a panel of Iowa republicans they were interviewing after the debate, and idk if they just picked some dumb hicks on purpose, but half the room said Vivek had the best performance??? Wtf?? These people are disconnected from reality.

Asa, Hutchinson, and Scott should all drop out tomorrow. They're wasting everyone's time.

Not that my opinion matters, but I went in entirely open minded last night with the hope that DeSantis would crush. All he did was crush his chances. I’m glad the board is reacting to Vivek the same way I did. Christie nailed it. Every answer was straight from ChatGPT. His opening statement was essential right wing mad libs in seeing how many buzzwords you can get in one sentence.

I like Haley the best after last night but I’m far from inspired. Pence did well but supporting him would be like:

He seems to be playing the angle of touting Trump successes without outwardly supporting Trump to cater to that crowd if Trump can’t run.

I knew nothing about Burgum before last night but hope to see more from him in the coming months.

Overall, less hopeful for 2024 than I was at the start of the night but it’s early.

The Vivek thing is so astroturfed lol. I'm convinced its just Trump fans acting in bad faith. Vivek has no views on anything.

And the media is going along with it.

My wife knows absolutely nothing about politics. She walked in the room while Desantis talking and she said “Well he’s not going to win.” I asked her why and she said “Because he looks like a joke.” lol

She isn't wrong. His body language is terrible. He looks constantly uncomfortable and robotic and any attempt at a smile comes off like a ransom proof of life video.

This Ramawamy guy seems like such an obvious fraud of a human being. He is clearly disingenuous and just up there doing a bit. He is an actor.
Looks like this debate exposed him. Love how he called out the Super PAC puppets early on but now it’s coming off as a grift. Even to a Republican audience, don’t claim “Climate Change is a hoax”. America should be past that. Call the solutions a hoax or present a case that it’s not as dire as some would claim but saying the climate doesn’t change is silly.

Desantis best (only) good moment was response to “raise your hand” question from the moderators

Can’t believe Christie came off as one of the better performers…but that’s like saying he’s the tallest midget. He was one of the few adults in the room & I can’t stand the guy. His acknowledgement to Pence doing the right thing as VP was a nice gesture.

Pence seems like the most principled but comes off as a cardboard cutout of all the midwestern conservatives that came before him.

Asa? Surely he lost a bet and is just paying it off by running for POTUS

Tim Scott seems like a nice guy. Maybe nice guys shouldn’t get into politics.

Nikki Haley did better than I expected.

I’m guessing Trump’s interview gained more viewers (impressions) & he’s still the runaway favorite?

Martha MacCallum was the inspiration for Fountains of Wayne to write “Stacey’s Mom”

Hot Take: If Trump wins the nomination & is able to run, there’s no way Biden debates him. The Biden campaign will claim “Biden won’t debate traitors“ or something to that effect. If someone else wins the nomination, Biden steps down due to health reasons and Gavin Newsome wins the nomination.

Very small sampling of Iowa voters, but according to CNN who sat with about 15 Repubs who watched the debate, the majority thought he won the debate with Haley next.

What? He is the only one with clear views on most topics that he can articulate in less than a five minute mealy mouthed equivocation.

Your governor was likeable but too small towny (I counted three references, two of which specific to 300 population). He had nothing to grab attention and will be a failed wallflower unfortunately. A capable, self made executive centered on smaller federal government is golden to me but he needed to find an angle that resonates. Missed his chance on abortion - we need a 4-5 month ban federally that 3/4 of people agree on and if states want to go to 6 weeks that's on them. Instead he punted everything to the state and waived his pocket constitution. Unfortunately state's rights is a losing concept in this country. He needed to pound that home on every topic better while not going so extreme to an all or nothing approach that will never fly.

Asa Hutchinson has no business on that stage and looks like a ghoul.

Name some of these clear views that Vivek has. He just uses a bunch of buzzwords lol. Plus he is a 9/11 truther or something akin to that

Burgum is good. Abortion is not his strong suit or his priority. I've told people that from the beginning lol.

LOL - politics is theatre. JFK beat Kennedy b/c of TV. Ronald Reagan anyone? Trump is showman. Obama was the ultimate actor. Every person up there is "disingenuous and doing a bit" with Tim Scott and Burgam on the lowest end of that scale not standing a chance b/c they are too boring.

You are admitting you like his message and don't have a good reason not to support him (probably b/c he is of Indian descent you racist). Why does every politician get to be two faced for decades and somehow still get benefit of the doubt but this guy is assumed to be a phony? Only one with a positive forward message reaching out to the youth with an aspirational message and tone.

Who articulated clearer views? Politicians contort themselves to avoid clear views on anything.

His stance on the border and cartels is by far the strongest and most passionate. Son of legal immigrants gives him cover white men with white hair don't have. Why none of the establishment can understand this is a winning bi-partisan issue is just mind numbingly frustrating. Same with the anti-neocon stance. Infinite dollars for Ukraine is not popular in flyover country. Who on that stage decisively opposes blank checks to Ukraine?

From his campaign site -
  • Use our military to annihilate Mexican drug cartels: defend against the CCP’s opium war
  • End civil service protections for bureaucrats: 8-year term limits instead
  • Use the military, including drones, to secure our southern border
  • Eliminate federal employee unions: repeal JFK’s executive order 10988
  • Move >75% of federal employees out of Washington D.C. & end pro-lazy “remote work” option
  • Cut wasteful expenditures: White House, not individual agencies, will submit budget requests to Congress
  • Pardon defendants of politicized prosecutions: Trump, Mackey, and peaceful Jan 6 protesters
  • Hold Congress accountable for “hush money” fund: taxpayers should not subsidize sexual misconduct
  • Publish the Jeffrey Epstein client list: government should not use police power to shield select elites
  • Rescind Biden’s ESG rule for retirement funds: get politics out of corporate America and capital markets
  • Oppose CBDCs: fight all plans for digital currency, a dangerous scheme for government control over our bank accounts
  • Protect American children: ban addictive social media under age 16 & gender confusion “care” for minors
  • Make political expression a civil right & end unlawful DEI indoctrination
  • Withhold federal funding for cities that refuse to protect Americans from violent crime

"Ron DeSantis was not a Navy SEAL" is one of the takes I'm seeing today.

Evidently he said he was?

Its the latest evidence of horseshoe theory connecting the Trump crowd and the weird libs. He didn't say he was. He said he served with or alongside them in Iraq, something like that. He's explained it extensively in interviews.

TrumpWorld has resorted to the most bizarre attacks on a guy they adored until Dear Leader told them not to.

On another note, maybe I live in a bubble but I haven't heard much of anything about Donald's interview with Tucker Carlson. On Twitter, I see some Trump accounts going "WOW (number) MILLION OF VIEWS. TRUMP 2024!" but no discussion beyond bragging about numbers....sound familiar?

It is dirty politics and it works. If Ron can't overcome he isn't going to fare any better against the Dem machine. The faction that gets boners over this approach are the ones saying "Trump fights for us!" - which only makes me think of the classic childhood retort "stick your head up your ass and fight for air." Trump got run in circles by the swamp and he doesn't seem to have a plan to do any better this time.

He may have fumbled one of the deliveries but he brought it up twice - he fought alongside Navy Seals/supported them. Kind of a lame tagalong but its what he says all the time. I would be more impressed if he was passionate about higher standard of care when it comes to putting our troops in harms way. His tagalong seems swift boaty to me but I haven't looked deeper at his actual service record.

It’s kinda funny to think about how badly Nikki Haley would just destroy Joe Biden. Electoral college landslide with probably 52-53% of the popular vote.
I don't think it's just her. GOP would win the Presidency, IMO, if any of the following were the nominee: Haley, Scott, DeSantis

If Kemp or Youngkin got in the race and were somehow able to get the nominee they'd both smoke Biden.

I don't think a neo-con establishment type gets the turnout needed to win like that. She is very well qualified and I would vote for her, great example of depth of the field. She loses me on her foreign policy/war mongering.

Even Christie, Pence and Hutchinson who I detest for various reasons exemplify the depth of the field. Vivek is the only unproven commodity IMO and he is more accomplished and less of a gamble than Obama was at the time.
