Matt "It's going to be a long time until Notre Dame can compete with USC again" Fortuna.
I still can’t believe this is an actual quote from a media member considering who we had playing QB and in the secondary that game. Especially after we dominated them for an entire decade. Unreal knee jerk reaction for a team that then got their shit kicked in by Utah and lost to fucking Tulane.

Yes, I’m still pissed about this quote as I was in real time haha.

I think they’re totally different. Fortuna is *actively* bad and makes things worse by being there, while Vince contributes literally nothing.
The below represents Vince's contributions:

Nobody is as bad as Vince. Incomplete thoughts and a sycophant. If he is on the show-I turn it off or tune it out. I'd rather listen to the HS kids Horka and Goolsby on BGI.

Never really minded Fortuna though.

Horka just said that Angelli has had the best fall camp he's seen the last couple of years he's been on the beat.

His takes are horrible.

Fortuna’s “i Watch the games in my couch” thing is so so lame like they guy was getting paid to cover CFb and went to like 4 games a season

Didn’t Vince go to Freeman Pressers?? Does IB no longer go to Pressers?

I recall one presser during Covid Driskell asked the last question on a remote call-in. I gather he was or is an anti-vaxer. It seemed very awkward - seemed clear Freeman wasn’t chummy either.

I assume Driskel can't afford to make it to the game this weekend?

Without poking fun at him financially, he’s a small business owner. He covers his own expenses. Flight tickets and accommodation isn’t cheap when going to Dublin for a weekend.

Some of the others, Horka and Soble (On3) and Sampson (The Athletic) likely are not paying much out of pocket - they work for big companies that generate much more revenue than what IB does cumulatively as an operation. O’Malley & Prister, too, work for 24/7. Their situation applies similarly to the formers.

I'm 40 seconds in to this 2 minute trailer for the Independent and Fortuna is already pissing me off.

"35+ years of covering this team...and I don't know if I've ever seen a team with as much hype and as many question marks..."

Really? As much hype? The fucking O/U win total for this team is 8.5, jackass. They're ranked from like 13-20 by all the major pubs.

They're gonna win 10 games and then he'll talk about how this season was a letdown because that is vintage Fortuna - set up the strawman then burn it down. I'll listen because I like Sampson that much, but I can't stand that dude.

Fortuna just isn’t very easy to listen to. He seems to think he’s the smartest person in the room. The guy only peripherally follows Nd at this point. As bad as he is podcasting, I think his writing is even worse. It was easy to understand why the athletic dumped him

He was banned from the Gug for not being vaccinated for like two years

The way Freeman reacted to Driskell being introduced on the call in phone line (or Zoom line) makes me think Freeman is on Irish Envy too 😳🤣🤣🤣

The shot policy may have made sense at one time when we thought the shot could prevent transmission. Once it became clear that it did not. It was stupid to keep it in effect.
Won't argue with you because this comment was just in passing fun. But requiring is a strong word, and requiring an experimental vaccine in the face of a near-non-existent death rate for working aged individuals will never make sense. Especially when more people died of covid in the treatment group of the clinical trial. We didn't need hindsight for this one. And apparently Driskel saw right through it ;).

Check out this quote from Jason Garrett in the Athletic today:

My dad was a scout for years after he finished coaching in the NFL. And one of the things that he always told me is make sure you scout with your eyes, not with your ears. And I agree with that. I also think you got to scout with your ears.

What are Jason Garrett's impressions of Notre Dame? Q&A with the NBC analyst

Cant wait for a season full of gems like this.

About watching practice:

"There was energy there, you could tell that it was fun to see guys who I had seen last year."

Jason Garrett is not a walking advertisement for the value of a Princeton degree.
