We think the Big 12 will be getting more than 20m per school with their current roster? They will be a basketball conference

We already know they will. Their rights deal has been done since last October. They will make $44 - 47mill/yr/school eventually.

Rumor is that it's going to cost 300 million for each school to get out of that GOR. 10 years at 30 million a year.

If it were not for the grant of rights weirdness then ND would already have made the move last year. Everything I've heard from "people who would know" is that ND and the B1G have an understanding where it's basically "as soon as the ACC house of cards falls we'll jump ship so keep a seat warm for us." Allegedly they've even talked about options for folding the NBC deal into the broadcast situation.

The duality of what ND is doing behind the scenes is where Jack S is making his money. ND's not only has secured their spot with the B1G in the P2 world but did it while actively lobbying the ACC members as to how they can blow up the league and side step the GOR... (which will mean having to subsidize some folks like Wake Forest, Cuse, BC when they land in a non-P2) at the same time ND is ringing every last drop of independence out of a rag they know they are throwing away once the B1G goes nuclear and enters FL, GA, AZ, NC, VA & TX.

Is this sourced or opinion. If Saavy did something good I want to give kudos. I have been hard on him.

Yes. Source is a P5 AD. He calls JS the smartest guy in the room. His other line… ND will be fine. JS, Warren and Smith spent all of Covid building CFB’s P2 future.
Well good, Jack did well it sounds like. Thank you.

Making fun of Jack is like blaming UA for mustard pants. Jack is a lawyer and Jenkins / BOT is his client. His job is to execute their agenda.
Absolving Jack of all criticism for things that happen at ND is as dumb as the people who think he's an incompetent buffoon ruining ND sports.

Not absolving Jack of all criticism - our recent OC hirefiasco seems largely on him, for instance - but he has steered Notre Dame through the complex waters of conference realignment very very well.

Reading the first page of this thread is hilarious, Larry Scott is an f'n moron for passing on Texas and OU in the Pac-12 lol.
Think about where we'd be now if that had been the case. It may have boiled down to Texas wanting too much, but you make that work in the end regardless of hindsight.

Some hilarity in there:

Twelve days ago, Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff stepped to the stage at the conference's annual football media day oozing with confidence about his conference’s impending television deal.

The longer the Pac-12 waits, the better its potential suitors get, he said.

The patience of his presidents will, in the end, pay off, he claimed.

The deal will be good enough to keep intact the 10 school members, he bellowed.

“I saw his comments and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’” one TV executive told Yahoo Sports. “Either he’s the greatest poker player or he’s just bluffing.”

I agree that realignment is an underappreciated threat to college football. Not least of all because of the coming divergence in revenues (and the increasing opportunity to use those revenues to improve the product on the field).

It's all recipe for fan apathy. Many fanbases will find themselves shunted from a power conference to a permanent underclass. Programs who at least had a slim hope of making a few good hires and watching themselves rise up will now be staring at a permanent glass ceiling.

I think that going from a slim chance to effectively none is going to be meaningful for a lot of people.

The College Football Enquirer Podcast (Forde, Wentzel, Dellenger) is gonna be pretty interesting this week. Those three guys have been all over the realignment story.

Honest question: have they?

Colorado is the only thing that's happened so far this offseason. Were they on that ahead of time or have they just been making as-yet-unsubstantiated rumors about other schools?

Yes, they have been. They have been talking about Colorado and both of the Arizona schools leaving the PAC-12 for months now. Colorado was of no surprise to them.

Thank you. There are always so many rumors because it's such a juicy topic.

I mean, if USC and UCLA really did approach the B1G what should they have done?

None of this happens out of the blue. Every one of these movements has been discussed between conference execs, school ADs, presidents, and BoTs far, far in advance of anything happening. There are contingency plans upon contingency plans, most of which will never come to fruition.
