All of which is true. He did wear a suit and tie for several of the sessions at Nashville though.
Except he wasn't wearing ties on a regular basis and he wasn't getting on that plane that often. His routine was to hit up the west coast kids during the USC or Stanford game. Kelly just needs to let it go. His occasional jabs make him look like the little one.

I believe the tie comment was in respect to Mike Leach. Greg Sankey made a comment (and specifically didn’t wear a tie) as well (see link below for a laugh).

In regard to his recruiting comment, well, with the exception of a few positions, it’s largely true. Doesn’t hurt having Texas and Mississippi next door and being within 3 hours to Alabama (Mobile).

From a football standpoint, Louisiana’s in-state talent coupled with its absence of another in-state, power 5 university is what makes it so unique and appealing.

Mike Leach hates neck ties.

Why does BK "Need to get over it"? LOL. He actually gets asked about the differences all the time. The fact is ND is a much tougher program to be successful at. Disagree?? (Well a clue is now our current HC says the mantra is "Choose Hard").

You make it sound like he never recruited nationally. He did. If he was so lazy, his recruiting classes were not much worse than Freeman's classes. 2024 is now #9 and it will go lower as SEC teams come in.

I think the hating by ND fans for a man who did a lot of good here doesn't make sense. You should be grateful that BK turned ND around. He didn't get the elite support by the BOT that needed (Nor is Freeman getting that support either). And he left for better pay and better path to a Natty. Harsh reality, but true.

I was going to post his Media Day conference but after watching the first two minutes and him starting off by taking a shot at ND I thought the better. He starts off by saying how thankful he was to be at a conference media day because "the other place he was for several years didn't afford him the opportunity." Then he said that year 1 was about him acclimating to his team and "learning how to play in those kind of environments." I could be wrong but sounds like jabs. I am a bias ND fan though.
If anything, it sounds like a light humored joke to me.

There was a time when they bounced back and forth with Florida as the state with the most per capita division I HS football talent.

Great point that Tulane, ULL, ULM and La Tech pose no threat to them whatsoever with regards to in state competition.

It was embarrassing for the all time wins leader to bolt for LSU. Just like it was embarrassing for Rees to leave his Alma Mater for a lateral move. Who does that? They will always despise him for that. They are pissed that ND doesn't mind being embarrassed when it comes to all things football.

I don't despise him though. I get it. He actually wasted his prime at ND. Nobody is winning anything here. He DID bring this program back to a respectable place, which is all you can ask at this University.

Would you ban the lion for roaring?

Would you ban the eagle for soaring?

Why would you ban the majestic Sea Turtle for gracefully swimming? 😀

Is it though? Look, I arguably hate Alabama more than any other team / school in college football. However, at this point, I’ve succumbed to the fact that they are undeniably the best program in college football. Further, while Freeman is largely an unknown, Rees has been afforded the opportunity to work with the best college football coach of all time. In sum, while it stings for ND fans and alums, I can’t blame him for the move.

ETA: I’ll give you the Kelly move, though. Other than the obvious “promotion” (i.e., leaving a directional school for a P5 school or Ryan Day leaving Cincinnati for Wisconsin), you rarely see head coaches pick up and leave (without some external pressures, scandals, or essentially being forced out) for another comparable college program.

Off the top of my head, other than BK leaving Notre Dame for LSU, Jimbo leaving FSU for A&M is the only other that comes to mind.

I agree BK needs to let ND go...he obviously talks the talk, but go walk the walk and beat Bama for a second straight year.

Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC is the same thing.

I agree. I think he does because he feels ND screwed him over on many occasions.

That or he felt smothered for years and finally feels 'free'.

Wasn't there some rumblings he was being inappropriate so he was gonna get forced out at some point soon? I may be mistaken, but I thought it was him.
I remember hearing the same thing……seems like it was related to a rumored extramarital affair.

Savvy Jack and the BOT treating nickels like sewer covers?? What a shocker.....

Kelly did mention that he was requesting updates to GUG years ago that were ignored. He was always fighting and sometimes winning the battle with the University in upping their investments in the program. He doesn't seem to have those issues at LSU. I wonder if Savvy Jack would have turned Kelly down if he wanted to hire the Utah OC. Kelly thankfully recruited Freeman.

100 million guaranteed isn’t a lateral move. The fat dick did the best he could here. He keeps taking shots every chance he gets which shows who he is as a person. Really good football coach though.

Kelly also said LSU is the only place he has had the opportunity to become a fan and feel like he is part of a family.

“The environment that’s created and then the welcoming of the family to it, it becomes like— I’ve never done this before. I became a fan,” Kelly said. “I don’t know what a fan is like, right? I usually have them throw stuff at me. But to go sit with my wife and my family at a baseball game and watch it and be a fan is something I’ve never had in my career.

Huh...Imagine a football coach at ND being a fan of the other sports at ND...

I'm not gonna try to convince you to not be angry at Rees, but anyone being honest with themselves knows that wasn't a lateral move. He went from coaching under a first time head coach going into his second year (who was his peer 18 months earlier) vs being under the greatest CFB coach of all time on a staff that churns out head coaching candidates every single offseason.

I get the questions from the media his first year, but he keeps getting asked to compare ND to LSU because the media will get him to bite. All he has to do is say I'm hear at LSU now let's move on.

As far as supporting and appreciating what Kelly did at ND, you might want to go back through my posts. I always supported him and appreciate what he did for ND. What I don't like is how he left.

Yeah, ND sells. I read an article on The Athletic this AM that had 8 - 10 questions about college football being answered. One of those questions was about ND. If you then go to the comment section you would think the entire article was about ND. Almost all of the comments were about that one short part f the article that included ND.

Kelly is the winningest coach of all time at Notre Dame. He turned LSU around in one season with its stringent recruiting requirements and lack of reputation as an elite program. Look at the lack of five stars at ND. Freeman has to figure this NIL thing out. Charles Power doesn’t have Carr as a 5 star so he isn’t a consensus 5 star. ND won’t recruit well until it hires better coaches. Shopping down a better aisle? Kelly had a bad OC who couldn’t coach his QBs up. Freeman took a top 5 program that Kelly built up and lost to Marshall and Stanford. Freeman should have gotten a qb in the portal last year. Freeman is a newb coach. Go Irish.
I told myself not to respond to the message but here we are.

1.) Kelly is only the winningest coach because he coached the most games of any ND coach, he also has that most losses. So he is simultaneously the loosingest coach in ND history.

2.) F**k powers and the rankings, Carr is a 5 star and so is Cam Williams. Why do the rankings from a bunch of jabronis matter, all that matters is their actual skills and they are 5 star talent and the staff landed them.

3.) Kelly did not give Freeman a top five program. He gave him a program with a shit ton of major holes in it. QB and WR room was horrendous, hard to win games with major holes in those two groups.
