Did ND even make his top 5? It doesn’t look like we lost this one, it looks like we weren’t even in the conversion.

Studies say conversion doesn’t work. But in this case at least if they had tried maybe he would be more football 🏈 bad ass and less barista ☕️ ballerina 🩰

the amount of people out of Freeman after he “only” went 9-4 with one of the worst starting QBs in FBS football and signed one of ND’s best classes in 20 years is remarkable. You guys really thought the 35 year-old who was a DC at Cincinnati 2 years prior was going to immediately sign top 5 classes and go to the playoff?
He took over the 5th team in the country & blew a 21 point lead to a bad offensive team, while having an NFL QB.

He lost to Marshall at home with Buchner as the starter, with a preseason top 5 team.
Pyne was actually top 20 efficiency in the country at QB. That is skewed, but he wasn’t as bad as you say.
And he lost to the worst Stanford team in decades at home.
And his first recruiting class finished 12th.
This one will be around that same range.

He has to win games, period.
That’s all I care about.

12th is generous. Will be lucky to be top 15.

2023 class was significantly better than Kelly’s average. Idk how many times we have to go through this shit.
I think the hope was that Freeman would help us get the elite kids. ‘23 class only had two top 100 kids. The class was definitely deeper in the middle to lower end 4* kids but lacking on high end talent (per recruiting rankings).

Losing a 5* kid from Chicago is frustrating to some. I understand it. Luckily the game is won on the field.

I’m not usually negative poster. Been a big Freeman fan. I really was a believer. This is more in regards to what ND is and needs to admit it is (a top 8-20 recruiting program with even a mediocre recruiter). BK won a lot of games with 10’ish recruiting classes and was in the playoffs twice. That’s quite an accomplishment considering many of his classes looked like 2024, a likely 15-20. I talked a lot of shit to the people that wanted Fickell. IDK. I’m struggling here. If we are just moving the needle 1 inch in recruiting but giving up major coaching experience, I’m not sure I agree with the hire over Fickell or that it’ll mean anything on the field. Hell, I’m not certain Fickell wouldn’t recruit even better based on his likely asst. hires and acumen. Yeah, we lose Freeman in that case to LSU, but damnit maybe he could have negotiated a bigger paycheck to keep Freeman away from LSU.

The staff needs to do a 180 with their recruiting strategy. Letting Waffle go and passing on the Smith Twins along with some questionable moves with safety recruiting are some head scratchers. Also I don’t get the if you’re committed to another school you can visit policy.

At least it meant we got to keep Rees as OC!

Passing on the Smith twins was the correct move. They aren’t that good & have peaked.
Young & Mullins are better.

My guess is we finish with Lambert and a WR (no clue who that is) in the 2024 class. I'd be extremely surprised if any of KVA, Shaw, Beasley, Scott (if he even takes visits) are in the class come signing day.

ND chose Bryce Young over Jacob Smith and Jerod, I'll be real, he's just not a good prospect to me. He's a guy who doesn't look like he'll get big enough to play interior, which has been the problem for ND for a while. And on top of that, I prefer Mullins and Young over Jacob Smith.

ND can't keep throwing out 6'2 275 pound DT's and expect them to legitimately compete with better OLs.

I'm fine with keeping on Scott and opening things up, because I firmly believe they'll get somebody better than Jerod Smith.

But IB said Nelson and KVA were like 8+ confidence.

This thread sucks. Everyone is way too negative over a recruit that will need at least two years before he is ready for playing time in a power 5 game.
Right now this thread is almost as bad as loosing to Marshall.

Just don’t lose Mullins or Thomas. At that point I will lose my shit. No, there’s no reason to worry, but that’s my breaking point.

Keeley was a bigger loss than Scott imo.
