Is the other possibly Stanford? I remember hearing that he was high on themSupposedly he's down to 2 schools. I lost the link to the tweet with the article .

Elko is probably telling him he will be the man in his defense.I can kind of get (for some super-smart kids) choosing Stanford over Notre Dame. It happens now and then. But I can’t remember any recruit choosing Duke over Notre Dame unless they play basketball.
And he’s probably right. Mencke needs to decide which path to take. There will be more competition at N. D. for certainElko is probably telling him he will be the man in his defense.
Whose MIles?Elko, you can have Mencke. We'll take Miles and Ziglar.
Loy saying he’s going to flipping his CB to Duke for Mencke.
Oliver Miles III. Multi-Sport ATH from Texas. Similar to others on the S board, he just has a very good athletic profile.Whose MIles?
Kid decided he was going to take official visits after being told ND commits can't take official visits. He played himself.Lmfao poor kid
Nice sorry didn't know who it was has he shown interest or visit? I'd take all the Texas kids they play against some of the best competitionOliver Miles III. Multi-Sport ATH from Texas. Similar to others on the S board, he just has a very good athletic profile.
I'd love to combine him and Ziglar with Johnson.
I like Mencke early but with the addition of Urlacher, I'd like plus athletic profiles from here on out. We'll see what the staff does.
Scheduled to OV this weekend. I did not realize that until earlier today. Hopefully that is where this is headed.Nice sorry didn't know who it was has he shown interest or visit? I'd take all the Texas kids they play against some of the best competition
No problem with that scenario. He can simultaneously be a player the staff would take and also a player who isn’t good enough to have a spot reserved. They can find another Paul Mencke Jr.It sounds like the staff said told him they wouldn't hold a place for him (confident in the other prospects they have on their board) and that if he wanted to be a part of the class, he needed to commit sooner rather than later. Kid told them he'd like to take officials.
It sounds like it's no hard feelings, and that ND would take him if he committed today, but they won't be holding a spot for him in the class if he chooses to draw the process out. Don't see anything wrong on either side.
If you're looking at what have you done for me lately trajectory of football programs as we currently sit, Duke is probably in a more solidified spot right now than Stanford.I can kind of get (for some super-smart kids) choosing Stanford over Notre Dame. Mencke did commit. But then said he wanted to take his last visits & ND told him he had to either cancel those visits or they were still recruiting over him.IIRC, Hit and Hustle basically suggested that Mencke is a silent and that they cancelled (mutually or otherwise) the Gallego visit. Is that true? If so, there seems to be some contradictory news out there about what's going on with Safety recruiting.
I'm surprised ND canceled the Gallegos trip without landing another safety besides Johnson.Mencke did commit. But then said he wanted to take his last visits & ND told him he had to either cancel those visits or they were still recruiting over him.
He decided to not cancel, so ND didn’t accept his commitment.
ND will get Tae Johnson & is still recruiting Miles, Zigler & Davis Andrews. (McClain too, but he is a long shot).
Agreed. If you're looking at what have you done for me lately trajectory of football programs as we currently sit, Duke is probably in a more solidified spot right now than Stanford.
We're talking about a safety from Texas who may or may not prefer one coast to the other. He seems to be a bit of an anomaly in many respects.
This staff seems to be driving a hard line this cycle around, and I really dig that. Really no sense getting dicked around.
I am as well. I'm not a big fan of cancelling visits. And this is why.I'm surprised ND canceled the Gallegos trip without landing another safety besides Johnson.
It may not matter but I don't see what is strategically smart about it. There is no downside to bringing a guy in on a visit.Gallegos cancelation had nothing to do with Mencke. ND was recruiting him, but he wasn’t at the top of the board. He was starting to trend to USC or Oregon. ND saw what was happening and pivoted. Smart move to cut it off when they did, and Johnson being back in the fold greatly softens that.
I would love Johnson and either Ziglar/Miles.I am as well. I'm not a big fan of cancelling visits. And this is why.
From ISD's Intel last Friday there was an section called "Safety in numbers". It was how the board was setting up for ND to seemingly have it's pick of Mencke, Robinson, Andrews, Johnson.
Well, Robinson works out and looks more hybrid than S. Andrews is a 2026 guy so he doesn't solve immediate depth concerns. Johnson is the dude but we need more numbers than that. And, now Mencke Jr. is apparently trying to call their bluff.
Though, with Ziglar and Miles coming to campus they have better prospects than all but Johnson up next.
Yeah. Right now - as Elko has Duke on the upswing while Stanford wanders the wilderness - you're probably right. I just can not ever remember a recruit we wanted choosing Duke instead, while I can with a few guys vs. Stanford. One - Paulson Adebo - was even a DB from Texas. But there's always a first. If you're looking at what have you done for me lately trajectory of football programs as we currently sit, Duke is probably in a more solidified spot right now than Stanford.

The answer is take all 6. Andrews is a 2026 recruit so it has no bearing on scholarships. Taking 3 CB's and 3 S's in a class is hardly overkill in the portal era.I would love Johnson and either Ziglar/Miles.
Then recruit Andrews as a no matter what kid you know is for down the line.
Flip Beasley.
Then get 3 Safties next year.
Having 3 this year & 3 next year is better than 4 this year & 2 next year.
Beasley could be the key as a swing guy.
In my scenario you would take 6.The answer is take all 6. Andrews is a 2026 recruit so it has no bearing on scholarships. Taking 3 CB's and 3 S's in a class is hardly overkill in the portal era.
I think one of the CBs, possible two if Beasley flips, are future Safties.Urlacher isn’t a S. Nor do I think they should consider him one.
I hope I’m wrong, but Urlacher is probably the floor of how I see this current recruiting class. I just don’t see it at his current or actual position.Urlacher isn’t a S. I would hope they don’t consider him one.
