A five star commit. Dude played corner for FCS team. Lets chill out a bit. He has to play a whole new position in a few months.

I think that's the exciting part, though.

Guy was in press coverage on the line in most of his highlights, but still laying the wood moving towards the LOS like an in-the-box safety.

Putting him in a deeper part of the field and letting him read and react should help transition to DI, and might even elevate his game by letting him process more before he engages "Heat Seeking Missile" mode.

OK. He's probably not Kyle Hamilton. But a high four-star, at least?
I know we all love the anticipation of the hot shit recruit, even if at this point they're more than a year away from setting foot on campus and probably at least two years from meaningful minutes. I'll celebrate a guy with four years under his belt who can actually start for us against Navy at a position of enormous need.

Yeah Carter's commitment is big as it shores up a big question mark at safety. This makes the Hillman loss sting significantly less because of Carter's 2 years of eligibility.
It definitely works out well in the end.

Who has a 5 Star who is a Junior in HS played against? Not 100% D1 players like Carter did.

People need to realize College Film is SOOOOOO much more important than HS film when judging the ability to play in college.

We know for a FACT that Carter can play against P5 opponents, because he has, despite playing at an FCS school.

ND will have him for 2 years.
Remember Gilman? Played at a service academy & had two pretty good freaking years at ND and got to the NFL.
He was better then pretty much every Safety coming out of HS the year he transferred to ND.

Exactly……a dude that started college at 5’10”, 150 and has played extremely well (even at the FCS level) for two years and now more like 6’1”, 200 is a much better short term prospect than a 5 star kid coming out of high school. ND knows exactly what they are getting with Carter for, most likely, two years.

he can play corner, not safety. Safety is a projection. I am hoping he is a solid rotation and starter next year and hopeful I am wrong.

The problem is I am sure you have never watched any film of him? I do not know for sure, but I played LB at the FCS level and when watching this kid's film you see very much to be excited about at the safety position. There was a reason in addition to Notre Dame, schools like LSU and Florida wanted him. TBH safety is not as much as a projection or crap shoot like you are saying. You look at attributes and watch film, this kid has it.

Have you watched his film?
He played Corner because he was 165 lbs when he first played & they needed him at Corner.
Now he has grown into 200 lbs & was their best best tackler.
I’ve heard 3 different sites (ISD, IB, 247) all say he projects better at Safety because of his ability to tackle & his covering skills being better suited to Nickel/Safety.

One of his teammates, who is a LB at Rhode Island, said Carter was the best tackler he had ever played with, and that kid was a freaking LB.
If a LB says you can tackle, you can tackle.

I didn’t get to listen to the IB recruiting show from today yet, but just caught part of it and a few interesting things they just said:

Question; uncommitted players you would bet your mortgage on being in the class.

They kind of danced around some names (like Davis Andrews, but said no Safties for sure right now), then said three interesting things.

1) “If ND decides they want 4 WRs then Jason Robinson for sure.” So it sounds like Robinson waves to commit, but ND isn’t taking it?

2) Ryan Roberts says Lambert because, “I’m more confident now because he isn’t visiting anywhere else except ND” and wants to commit this summer.

3) Driskell, at the end, “Loghan Thomas!” Then said definitely Thomas, & Roberts kind of gave the “oh yeah, technically he is uncommitted” face. So o think they both skipped Thomas because the question emphasized uncommitted & they must count Thomas as committed.

Is the consensus that Rushing is the top target at weakside DE? If so, how would the others (Thomas, Williams, etc.) be ranked?

Agree on Lambert. If he had been able to visit last month it's my belief that he would already be in the class. He's in the minority in that academics are actually important to him. Thankfully Stanford is no longer the 9+ win team they were 5-6 years ago. They'd probably be a big player for Lambert if they were.

I’ve read quite a few comments from the “experts” that strongside DE is likely……for what that is worth.

Blair A of 247 who's been really pushing "Rushing to ND" the past two weeks, says that the staff has talked to Rushing about being the next Foskey, FWIW.

Justin Scott isn’t visiting ND in June.

ND thinks they are in a good spot & say he is visiting in the Fall, but no way do I believe that.
He has unlimited OVs now & still isn’t visiting 90 minutes away?
Yet he went to Miami on his own dime last month, and returning already for an OV?
How naive is ND?

Lambert, Carr, and Cam Will are all top 50 talents who would all be ND’s top commit in many Kelly classes FWIW

Sneed, Wagner, Styles, Kollie, Johnson, Mayer, were all 5 Stars by a major site BK’s last 3 classes. That’s an average of 2 per class his last 3 classes.
And if you go back before that he had many more 5 Stars.
Lambert isn’t a 5 Star on any site. So it’s Williams & Carr, which is the average BK had.

ND hasn’t moved on, neither has Justin.
Justin is still ND’s #1 priority in the class & he told ND he will visit in the fall.
So ND is still recruiting him hard & he is still responding.
ND will continue to recruit him, but how long does he respond.

On3 was the only site that ranked Sneed, Wagner, Styles and Kollie as 5 stars. Their rankings are suspect at best

I agree Charles Powers sucks.
But those were 4 pretty good HS players everyone wanted.
It’s funny looking back now at Wagner, because he was the last player I remember who committed to ND that nobody knew was going to on NSD.
And according to the ND staff, he is the future at OT for ND. He already is next in-line behind Alt & Fisher.

I would question whether Sneed comes to ND if Kelly was there. And Styles was wanted by most to play corner. I could be wrong, but ND was the only, or one of the only, to give him a shot at WR. Kollie, for some reason, didn't seem to progress, which happens to players regardless of stars.

Sneed ends up at ND still.

Lea didn’t recruit him.
When Freeman became the DC he immediately started recruiting him because he was close friends with Sneed’s HS coach, BJ Payne.
So if BK was still HC, Freeman would still be DC, so Sneed would have been at ND regardless.
