The weirdest thing about Russia is they had a golden opportunity (and they were sorta doing it for awhile!) to buddy-buddy up with “the west” and have economic prosperity in their country. They’ve also historically been aligned with Europe going back to when they were a smaller country with an aristocracy.

Instead, Putin — for no earthly reason — opted to #yolo rebuild the Soviet Union one territory at a time. Without the resources, technology, or personnel to even conquer Ukraine. Just totally ruined himself and Russia for vanity. It will take them decades to recover from this, if they ever do. They’re more like to end up a vassal state of China than a global power again.

They've always had delusions of grandeur. The two crowning triumphs in Russia's history (Napoleonic Wars/WW2) occur after existential threats with the assistance of the dominant commercial/financial power of the day.

They then interpret their win as a sign of their own power and over reach. They've always been convinced they should be a great power/have a spot at the table and over reached after this.

They really resented US power, and integration with Europe implies less power for the dictator/a more open society. Being China's vassal let's them pretent they're still a great power and lets the oligarchy rule.

One benefit of this war is we're testing our kit in real time (or watching Ukraine test it) vs a modern military. It'll be useful information in deciding what we invest in/retool, etc.

Nobody wants to see Russia win, but there's a lot of questions of the cost of a proxy war, especially when we have our own problems at home. $12 billion was too much for a wall to help slow illegal immigration, but we've sent $120 billion to another country to slow the Russians? Some politicians and former military like Tulsi Gabbard have questioned if Ukraine can really turn back the Russians fully even with military equipment being brought in, it's a numbers game at the end of the day. Russia has more than 3 times the population and should have the military advantage.

There's been a lot of conflicting reports on Russian movement, Ukrainian resistance as they push back, conflict lines moving back and forth, etc. It makes one question if the reports are accurate, or if the media has been playing up the recent Ukrainian wins to keep tax payers from losing confidence in their dollars being given away. I truly hope they are bleeding Russia dry, because every Russian loss puts Putin in a worse position.

I shared the Big Bang and look at the shared footage about daily. News is news and in this environment propaganda is everywhere and has potential to be fake.

I do not root for Russia. Russia has done sick and terrible things to an entire country. Rape, torture, executions, relocation of children, and more. I do not root for evil.

Strategically, this war is a standstill in my opinion and the Ukrainians are chipping away at what they have militarily daily. A win by Russia would be a win for China. I believe firmly that Russia can’t be allowed to take over the Ukrainian territory. I do not believe Russia is on the ropes either. I’m not on the side of the aisle that said being concerned about Russia is the 80’s wanting its foreign policy back.

I think this is headed towards a deal where some of Ukraine gets surrendered and the fighting slows. That’s my personal prediction. Tension will always be there. Prob going to be a never ending war until Russia goes another direction politically or the government of Ukraine has a Russia friendly president like Belarus.

Just because someone doesn’t have the Ukrainian flag in their profile pic or only share good news is not indicative of “cheering” for Russia.

The Ukranians are making gains at the city's flanks. Wagner is threatening to leave. Taking the city doesn't help Russia advance or really defend anything.

The city has been destroyed and the Russian Army has moved in to replace Wagner. Speaking to what is happening is not pro-Russia. The coverage of this has been like most coverage in recent years, incredibly dishonest.
