You have the #2 QB and #2 RB transfer. The staff needs to figure this out. This is not just about greedy and opportunistic players but is also about the staff and this program.

You can't pour all this effort into these key positions and have the #2s leave. Its a killer.

No. I think the value of an ND degree is worthwhile, but for an athlete to play at Bama is hard to resist - even with no assurance of starting at Bama, either! ND needs to figure this out. Perhaps something is not going on all cylinders with MF and War Daddy.

Then this is Tyler's decision to bear, for better or worse. In life, we all have to choose a path. Sometimes we choose unwisely. We're human. A short term gain may feel good to him, even though the long term struggle may yield a better result. With that said, we don't own a crystal ball and maybe he'll win the job, crush it, and end up in the NFL via this path. Time will tell.

Huh? They had offensive sets for Tyler and MF stated there still was a QB competition. Hartman is gone next year.

I think he is prospects for playing time at ND was better than Bama. Its about the better program / coaching staff.
The only QB competition left was for the #2 position but believe what you want.

You do recall that the ND analysts said Tyler was actually playing better than Hartman at certain points in the spring practices? He is leaving ND for Bama with zero assurances he will be starting there either. Its about going to Bama and playing for a better program and the GOAT. And perhaps leaving a situation and staff that he doesn't think will develop him.

Let me put it this way.... had MF gotten the OC he wanted, Andy Ludwig, I think the likelihood TB and LD staying would be greater. Both are simply leaving with no assurances of more PT. They are leaving ND. This is something that can't be dismissed.

Disagree.

ND analysts said TB had ONE good practice (that they were allowed to see) and all noted within context that Hartman came out of the gate a little slow this spring due to learning new offense with new OC and new WRs etc. Literally no one believed this to be a true competition once Hartman set foot on campus.

Rees and MF chose not to take a QB last year and roll the dice with Buchner. It didn't work out, so they grabbed Hartman for this year. That clearly sends a message via Rees (at the time) and Freeman that they like Tyler but they need more assurances from a sure fire QB with experience.

On Diggs, he's never fully settled in at ND. His entire time at ND involved numerous transfer rumors. I don't relate he and TB transferring at all.

Buchner choosing Bama makes zero sense, logically. He's choosing to play for his familiar OC....ya know, the OC who just recruited Hartman to come in and play over him this year. Buchner will not be given this starting job at Bama. So why leave a backup roll at ND (where he was so close to getting his degree and being the starter next year) to likely being a backup at Bama? He's taking a risk. Props for having the balls to do it. (I felt the same about Rees leaving for Bama...tip of the cap, man). But hoo boy. If it doesn't pan out, then what?

He is going to Bama - that is much different than ND in terms of getting a Natty, facilities, overall coaching staff, resources, etc.

When ND doesn't invest like SEC programs into its program, it shouldn't be any wonderment why a #2 at ND would be okay with transferring to Bama to be a #2 there. Homers try to justify and scratch their heads and wonder why... ND is not at the level of UGA and Bama.

Bama wasn't as actively looking as they have been recently. ND made it very well known they wanted a top transfer QB back in December.
Couldn't Hartman have left ND after the spring game? He doesn't owe ND anything. And, a Hartman led offense at Bama would probably have been pretty good. My point was all of IrishDrunk posts are really anti ND, under the guise of "Keeping it Real" or "not drinking the Kool-Aid like other fans." His comment was that playing for Bama was way better than playing for ND. My point was, then Hartman should have gone there instead of Buchner last week after the spring game, since he is from the south, would play in Rees offense, would play in SEC for a team whose last 4 QB's include 3 1st round picks and Jalen Hurts, who was, til yesterday, the highest paid QB in the NFL. He probably would have made big NIL money given his location and pedigree, and he could have left yet chose to stay at ND.

No one would claim ND is on the level of UGA and Bama. Rees leaving ND for Bama for the same position makes a ton of sense for this very reason.

Buchner leaving makes none. Especially when you factor in the ND degree and how highly he and his family value academics.

This is nothing more than a last ditch effort to play the game he loves for an OC he's comfortable with at a Top 2 level program. This perhaps is the same point you're making. Idk. I'm just saying that it's short sighted and illogical given the bigger picture.

Hypothetical: Buchner doesn't win the job. Bama continues to recruit 5* QBs every year, per the norm. Buchner never sniffs the field AND forfeited his ND degree. What then?

I also recall ND analysts pumping up Dayne Crist before 2010, reporting how much better Golson was protecting the football in camp, talking about how "accurate" Wimbush was looking. Then the games came and they all looked the same. Same thing with TB before last year and then before this year's Spring game. Full disclosure, I don't think TB will ever be a successful big time QB. We'll see.

Curious why you think it would make that big a difference to Buchner or Diggs whether the OC was Ludwig or Parker?
Either way - in Buchner's case - it's not the guy who recruited/developed him the last several years, and it's likely they import a new system that's less in sync with Buchner's skillset. Diggs, to me, feels like a different situation; less to do with coaches than an apparent (misled IMO) desire to be a clear RB1.

People need to quit putting this shit out into the universe. This is ND and we will inevitably suffer pain.

Agree with your post and it underscores my points. ND needs to figure this out. You don't lose a QB like this without doing some serious soul searching. This is a massive loss in the depth department.

Oh I think its one factor that TB considered. ND is simply not firing on all cylinders relative to gap closing with the elites. No we see some of the fall out.

How is this troll not banned yet? He has been doing this for a year.
I want ND to succeed badly. But you can't lose #2 QB and #2 RB in same week without understanding why. Stating this doesn't make me or any other poster a so-called Troll.

I agree it's a huge loss for ND in the depth department (especially for next season), but I don't think ND needs to figure out anything. Tyler wanted to leave. Simple as that. I don't think the staff did anything wrong, nor do I think there was anything more they could've done. Bringing in Hartman was the best decision they could've made. Fall out be damned.

Both waited until after spring ball was complete. You're over thinking this.

Eh. Buchner didn't leave because Notre Dame isn't elite enough for him, or the "facilities" or whatever you're going on about. He left b/c he saw a chance to start in a QB room with no clear alpha dog, run by an OC who knows him well, as opposed to being QB2 in an offense run by new coaches (which may not fit his skills as well).
It's unfortunate, and it may turn out to be a mistake for Buchner. But it isn't that complicated, nor is it some massive indictment of Notre Dame's program. If anything it says more about Bama's that they're recruiting away our backup.

Yeah, i think he has a pretty darn big NIL at ND. This is the first big time QB at ND in the NIL era. No position in the country gets more attention if they're playing good than QB at ND.
