Based on the spring game results, I think that was likely even before today's developments. How do Bama fans feel about the SCAN OFFENSE baby because it's comin to Tuscaloosa!
He fit the Brian Kelly/Tom Rees QB mold at the time - kind of athletic, kind of not tall, kind of can't throwPart of the problem for Buchner at ND right now (and in the past for that matter) is that his strengths don't overlap with the rest of the QB roster. You can't just plug him in if Hartman goes down and expect to run the same offense with any reasonable level of success or efficiency,.and I think that's why Angeli has looked better -- his skill set has greater overlap so it's easier to plug him in. You can't develop two offenses at the same time just in case, which is ultimately what you'd need to do for Buchner to succeed. I don't have any ill-will towards the guy, I just don't think he works with what ND is doing. To that extent I blame recruiting more than Buchner because I think he was set up to fail in the system they ran and are looking to run--it's as if they just took the highest rated talent they could find, without consideration of fit. The injuries and missed time going back to high school certainly haven't helped, either.
He aint' coming back.If he decides to come back, is there a deadline for him to do so, according to the transfer rules?
Bama's offensive line is talented and experienced. Buchner will take some shots there but he'll have time to make throws too.TB is going to get absolutely murdered at Bama.
That does not play into his strengths.Bama's offensive line is talented and experienced. Buchner will take some shots there but he'll have time to make throws too.
Okay, but why are you even trying to make that point? Hartman wouldn’t be here if we had McCarthy.Point is Hartman >> Mccarthy
I think its entirely plausible he comes back. There is a reason Freeman left the door open and Tyler said as much. Guessing he wants to see what's available and wants a chance to start this year at a decent program. He aint' coming back.
Pretty foolish considering the starter could and has gone down twice for the rest of the season within the first 2 games going back to 2015. There's a high chance he would still play this season and he would definitely be the starter next year.
We also don't lost 4 games last year.Okay, but why are you even trying to make that point? Hartman wouldn’t be here if we had McCarthy.
The Hell is wrong with you …..Is ND looking is contingent on Buchner leaving?
Watch him go to Bama, win a Heisman, and Hartman breaks his leg week 2.

My earliest ND memories were during Davies' tenure. I know nothing but pain. The Hell is wrong with you …..
Fun likely ends in HS at some point. Then it becomes business decisions. Rarely is it just one singular business decision. At what point does the game cease to be fun for these guys? The transfer portal is more revelatory than revolutionary, but for me it’s how obvious it is that the game isn’t fun for most of these guys. They are so drilled that it’s about making the League (which most of them aren’t going to even sniff) that athletics isn’t opening doors, it’s dragging them around by a leash
Watching I felt like I was watching the Marshall game all over again (when he was in the game).Prister nailed this on the pod (thinking big picture). He said Buchner almost didn’t compete during the game. Seems as though he already made his mind up beforehand about transferring
(copied this from a 247 poster)
Watching, you couldn't help but feel this way.
Remember when Goolsby became a QB guru and tried to tell everyone that Buchner should start? Also funRemember when the media tried playing up the QB competition? That was fun
Bama has 4-5 games where they're going to have to throw it to win.My hot take is the Buchner being a run-first QB in Rees’ motion-heavy offense at Bama would actually work out for them, based on the athletes that would be surrounding him. Saban would have a full-time erection on the sidelines if he had a QB/OC situation that required Bama to run the ball 70% of the time.
They’d just run teams into the ground, and then get Buchner easy layups off of play action.
Of course, that’s IF TB could stay healthy.
We’ll see!
