I look at listening to Driskell like you're in a lecture.

You have to try and wade through a lot of bullshit to sift out a nugget or two of knowledge.
I have learned whole new vocab from Driskell:

1. Pad Level
2. Off Platform
3. Target Availability
4. Stretch Catch Zone

I have heard Off Platform but its funny how he uses different phrases. Like he totally wants to do Coaching Speak .... like when Larry David had his day trying to sell cars at a car dealership on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I learned that middle aged men use the phrase "If we're being honest...."

Pad level is common for football coach speak. I've heard Target Availability too. What the hell is Off Platform and Stretch Catch Zone?

lol, slipped in their standards. It had been two years since their last national title.

Good grief, it must be nice. It must be really freaking nice.

Pad level is a phrase you hear almost every day at practice. Someone's pad level will be shit and it will be discussed.

I'm so tired of clickbait media giving him the chance to spin the obvious to make ND look bad. He's where he is because he's getting paid 100 million to be there, and ND wasnt going to give him a lifetime golden parachute contract. BK is a great (great!) football coach but he is the ultimate litigator. If he's getting paid by you, he's going to tell your story. If he's not getting paid by you, he doesn't care at all.

This is why I'm continuously flummoxed by anyone who says "I'm rooting for BK at LSU." Even if we pretend that he left ND in an amicable fashion, or that his success doesnt directly serve to make ND look bad, it's extremely clear he viewed ND as a job that he was paid to do and no more than that. As a result, I have the same view of him as a fan. I did my job as a fan of ND and rooted for him for as long as his interest aligned with the team's. I don't begrudge him for leaving per se, but I'm not going to give him one more iota of my positive energy now that he's gone and representing a brand that is so antithetical to ND's.

As a former OL, “pad level” discussions give me some serious PTSD…

Our practice schedule in the locker room was usually pretty standard…. Unless our offensive positional block for the OL had the heading “PAD LEVEL” or “RUN THE F*%$ING BALL DRILL”

We knew it was gonna be a rough 20 minutes if we saw those on the board. I still wake up worried that my run blocking wasn’t good enough in the game last Friday… 15 years ago.

You're not getting an argument from me there. It was a common phrase for us. I still want to know what the hell Off Platform and Stretch Catch Zone are, those are new for me.

Off platform is a pass thrown differently than expected. Usually it’s in a good way meaning the QB adjusted well to what the defense threw at him.
Never heard of “stretch catch zone” but its probably just what it sounds like- catching radius

Basically just watch what Mahomes does 80% of the time... he's moving and throwing without the standard mechanics on almost every throw, but still delivering accurately and avoiding mistakes for the most part. That's off-platform, and that's why QB pro days look like trick shot competitions lately lol

If he's the guy who winds up breaking the streak of HC to win a National Championship at LSU, I'm not going to feel any kind of feelings. I just don't care about the guy anymore.

Why are we upset with what Kelly said in that video????

Here is the truth:

1. He was sick of fucking Swarbrick and the BOT limiting the ability to win a Natty. Can we really argue with him on this?
2. He wanted to coach in the best conference - the SEC.
3. LSU was off their standards or position. Coach O had made it a mess. Was it a hard turn around? Probably not but it still was a fucking mess.

Combine all three and about $100MM and we are shocked or upset he left??? GMAFB. #1 alone may be the reason Freeman may bolt after the fucking abuse he took this last offseason. I just hope Freeman fights these idiots in the administration hard like Kelly did for many years.

But in that video, at least, he didn't bad mouth ND other than stating the factors we all know are to be true.

Well he either (1) straight-up lied about ND being in the middle of a potential political campaign for a playoff spot, or (2) is making a shitty attempt at being smug about his own former team's lack of a chance to win had they gotten to the playoff.

But other than that, yeah, typical straight shooter BK on display lol

“We knew where we were going to be in terms of that”

They were a Bama loss away from being in the playoff, he’s such a jackass.
Correction: they were a typical BK getting pantsed in the biggest game of the year away from being in the playoff. They put up 13 points against Cincy. 13. Here's the murderers row of teams that put up more against that super amazing Cincy defense during the regular season:

Austin Peay
Miami (OH)
Indiana
UCF
Navy
Tulsa
USF
SMU

East Carolina also put up 13 to match the ND output. The only ranked teams Cincy played besides ND (Houston and Alabama) also put up more, but in a conference championship and playoff. But yeah, Brian Kelly is a genius and was only held back by the culture at ND.

He was held back. Freeman s being held back.

It's why the best coaches won't come here.

BK was held back as much by himself and his hubris as he was by the administration. It's easier for his shortcomings to be overcome at a place like LSU than ND, but it's not because he's some genius that was being held back But I know I'll never convince the true believers, so I'll just leave it there.

I guess I don't see that. If recruiting was his weakness, BK is doing really well at LSU. Depending on the service his 2023 class is like 5th or 6th and ND's is 10th or 12th. Seems to me BK is finally shopping down a different aisle at LSU. The limitations at ND are real. No conference, no NIL, high academics, hard admissions, hard administration, facilities that are really good but not world class. These issues have to be improved if ND will have a real shot at a Natty. BK wasn't wrong about these issues. I seriously doubt Holtz would do much better now.

While he didn't win a lot great games for us, the move to LSU seemed to suit him well as he already bested Saban.

He beat Sabans worst team in years. Let’s be honest here. Still great, but nowhere near the teams he faced while at ND

Lucci - I think there is multiple facets to BK's tenure. Is he off putting as a person? Did he leave ND like he left Cinci? Yes.

But I think for much of his tenure he did value ND and tried. Later, probably less so. But what many don't want to consider is that BK realized somewhat soon if not halfway through his tenure the roadblocks he faced relative to the elite programs. He fought a lot with the Administration and certain changes certainly can be attributed to BK bringing the admin into the 21st century. More changes are needed if there is a hope at a Natty. Hopefully Freeman will fight the fight and not leave or accept the hindrances and be okay with being a Top 25 program instead of a Top 5 program.

He also got housed at Tiger Stadium by Tennessee and lost to a pathetic wounded dog of a TAMU team.
LSU was pre-season not ranked and finished higher than ND which was Pre-Season ranked #5. BK is one of the great turnaround HC in college football today. That is why he was paid the big bucks from LSU. I am hopeful this season ND will fair better.
