Saw a man in my building has a Tesla. Pretty surprising he would prioritize having a Tesla instead of owning a home. Particularly in a place like ND.

Is your building decent?

Some people prefer to rent/lease in general. Avoiding most homeowner upkeep requirements is attractive to some, particularly if you find a good spot with a good landlord.

I'm a homeowner, but I'm fortunate that I had a stepdad that taught me a lot about taking care of a house, preventative maintenance, DIY improvements, etc. I've also got a FIL that comes over to help with most projects, since I provide the grunt labor for all of his lol.

The last apartment I lived in, I had three different neighbors in three different units who made over $350k per year. All had the same story...business owner, divorced, cheaper to live in an apartment than a house, big on investing their surplus, drove fancy cars. Changed my perspective entirely. Never judge a book by it's cover.

Just to add to this - a senior person at my firm (>$200K) rents his apartment and owns 10ish properties. The biggest factors are time horizon and closing costs. Rent increases depending on the jurisdiction are likely to increase at a lower rate than an interest rate subject to market shocks. If you're looking to move in a 3-5 year window the selling costs may be higher than the appreciation you received on your property with a trivial amount of equity built up.

Of course if the person put a downpayment on the car, you should give them a lighter so they can continue to light more money on fire.

Very nice building. I suppose there is something to be said there. Just seemed very odd lol

Good question. I do not know. I'll take a look
I’ve seen a handful at complexes in my area but they are few……just curious. If I lived at a rental, I’d certainly think twice about having an EV unless I could charge at home or at work.

Car prices are outrageous right now.
Yeah and you should see the thousands and thousands of trucks sitting in random empty lots around FW. GM couldn’t get enough chips through the pandemic so now all of these 2020/2021 trucks just sit and will never get sold. Basically driving down their own supply to artificially increase demand/cost along with a write off of billions of inventory never sold.
