If Chris Watt can coach OL, he’s the guy you hire to replace the guy you replace the next guy with. Hiring him for this role in 2023 would be malpractice.

Why? Im not advocating either way, but is your assessment based solely on experience?
Anyone have any real insight as to his actual coaching acumen?

He’s a GA who has one year of coaching in which he was not retained by Tulane afterwards.

and if he can coach? Great. We already have him as an assistant. We don’t need to promote him, he is already on staff.

Watt was fired a year ago from Tulane. Not exactly the resume I’d want. Give him some seasoning

Chris was the OL Coach at Tulane for 2021.

Claybrook’s problems in 2021 reflected the offensive line as a whole. By his own admission, he played subpar at left tackle. The Wave ranked 97th nationally in sacks allowed per game — turning quarterback Michael Pratt into a frequent rag doll — and averaged by far the fewest rushing yards (164.9) in coach Willie Fritz’s six-year tenure.

Tulane offensive line expects to have breakthrough year after stretch of struggles

The Green Wave believes the difference will be the leadership of center Sincere Haynesworth and left tackle Joey Claybrook plus better competition across the board.

Coincidentally, they fired Watt, the offensive line dramatically improved and Tulane beat USC in the Cotton Bowl this past season.

Not paying Ludwig and hiring Parker versus hiring Watt I don’t view as anywhere close. Objectively, Parker has 10+ years of coaching experience in the end.

Yea but having Swarbrick hire Parker as OC is way more problematic and embarrassing and emasculating to Freeman than Watt being OLC.

Absolute no on Watt. We're on OL driven program, according to the man in charge. You don't turn the keys over to a guy who's been fired at the one spot he's been at, and the only other argument in favor of his hiring is that he used to play here.

There’s over a hundred other OL jobs in the country then I’m sure his services could be used.

Just because there is a reason for Tulane going wrong, doesn’t the qualify him for one of the best jobs in the country.

Certainly serves as mitigating circumstances, but that still doesn't mean he should get the job.

If I am MF, I don't hire Watt. Big reason- he is one of Rees' boys. Get every hint of BK/Rees out of there and make the program your own

OL coach is one of the hardest positions to hire for in all of CFB. Guys who are good tend to stay one place virtually forever. One of the reasons I was high on the Ludwig option was the ability to fill two roles at once.
