I'm not asking to wait for 2 months I'm asking for another week before going to Parker. I assume he didn't circle back because ND tried to hire Ludwig again last night. And by that point, he decided to stay at Utah. Hiring a guy with little to no play calling experience, after publicly stating that was an extremely important factor in who his OC was going to be is dumb. Also, with Hiestand retiring, it opens up OC/OL coaches to the process too.
Who's to say that Parker wasn't the next viable candidate?

Like I said, the rest of the names after Ludwig and besides Parker were names like Lewis, Candle and Moorhead. Two guys are currently head coaches, one of them already turned down a big power 5 program twice. One just got to a new job destination and there are concerns about his offense being a fit with what Freeman wants.

I think we need to accept the idea that Parker isn't just a name Freeman "settled" on and was a very realistic top candidate to replace Rees and was before the Ludwig fiasco.

JS = Denethor
Parker = Faramir

Denethor is sending Faramir to his death, even though everyone knows it's a bad situation. You don't NEED to willingly send this undermanned guy into such a bad situation, but the guy calling the shots is blind to how shitty and morale-reducing the order is.

Probably
I think we’ve let recent events shift our baseline here. Gino I’m sure is a fine QB Coach. But just because he’s not as bad at his job as we think Parker could be as OC doesn’t mean I’m satisfied with just taking the UC QB Coach here. ND should want the Longo, the Streeters of the world. Not settle for who is below them.

We would have crucified BK for this.

Who do you think we are? Big time football?

Big time football sends a private jet with an Alabama A on it to our campus and takes our OC from his Alma Mater.

We expect Utah to lower the buyout from his contract and act surprised when they don't and become Mr. Krabs. contract from the Utah OC

Regardless, your point is still false.

ND could've gotten the contract and spoke with multiple parties not including Ludwig directly about his buyout. Could've been reps from Utah, could've been his agent. The idea that Ludwig directly provided the numbers.

And where does Freeman fit into all this? It's a contract issue. That is Jack and the BoT's domain. So it stands to reason that Freeman's involvement in contract negotiations were minimal.
Good lord. Ok, so now Utah officials are feeding ND officials bad info. Again, if Ludwig, his agent, or now some old lady in the registrar’s office are feeding ND bad or incorrect info, that isn’t on Swarbrick. They can only go with the info Ludwig, his agent, or the old lady in the office are feeding them.
I’m pretty sure the old lady could only send along Ludwig’s contract info with specific acknowledgment from Ludwig too.

Anyway, did you miss the where I said, “under that scenario, yes, I agree with you?”
It’s almost like you’d rather just argue stupid shit than have a discussion.

Now please explain how MF is absolved in the other part of the post where I agreed with you.

This proves ND isn’t respected anymore. When you can’t hire an experienced OC with a top Qb, oline and running backs then you have a major problem. So all the paid sites have been proven wrong.
It kinda snowballs. Great coaches want to win and go places where they are given those tools. Urban sniffed this out years ago. We lucked into Kelly because he was never at a big time program so he probably didn’t realize the extent we hold ourselves back. It’s why he was trying to get the heck out since year 3.

So I have no idea what the background even is here,… why exactly are most of us on suicide watch over this?

Let's face it. Parker is not a top level OC or anywhere close to it. Notre Dame is not the place, or at least it wasn't, to give the guy a chance, as you put it. Call fans arm chair QBs or whatever you want, but the vast majority of us, and people in the college football world, will all say that ND settled for a very mediocre OC. Just because the players like him doesn't mean he is qualified to be the OC at Notre Dame. If hired, it would be a massive letdown. Notre Dame can and should do much better than that.
True. Any ND fan that thinks that ND is a Top 10 is now not living in reality.

ND is okay w being a Top 25 program. That has been the case since Holtz was shimmied out.

Great school and academics and a pretty good football team.

Freeman has made some pretty darn good hires. If he thinks Parker can succeed he deserves the benefit of the doubt. He’s got a whole lot more riding in this decision than any of us. I’m all in!

They weren’t here in 2007 like us… this is nothing
Fucking A, man.

They had to act fast and get something done. I personally would have rather gone and got the guy, but this had to be wrapped up in a matter of days after the Ludwig fallout.

I hope Parker and Gino do well, but they need an OL coach. I don't want it to be Watt.

Have to assume Swarbrick is putting all this excess money into a NIL slush fund right guys?
