I don't know. If the beat guys have known about HH retiring for a week or so, I would imagine Freeman knew well before that. He may have already been interviewing for O-Line replacement while also working on the OC process.

I like Sampson well enough on The Athletic.

dunno if you rope that in with ISD et al in "paid sites" tho. That's the only one I pay for.

I like the Tims and Sampson on the II pod and I like basically everyone on the ISD pod(s) except for Debbie Downer.

None of them are perfect, but those are all fine to good.

I subscribe to The Athletic but as far as Rivals, 247 and On3 I have taken a hard pass for several years.

I like Jamie on the podcasts and Twitter, though. I found him as an alternative to Driskell many years ago.

Loy gets crap mainly because he's a volume shooter. He just repeats from his sources essentially whatever he is told without putting much critical thought to the situation. In the end, I'd rather have too much information even if he's only right 60% of the time, every time.

So in summary the paid sites are OK but not worth paying for. That's where I've been for years.

Frank pissed me off years ago when I found out he had a secret board where he gave out info that his paid subscribers didn't get. Might even still be true.

I don't think it's a secret board per se, but when he lived in South Bend, he would have weekly luncheons where he'd spill stuff he didn't want to put in writing publicly.
