Per Greg Biggins, ND has reached out to Gary Bryant, Jr.

He has set up visits to Miami and A&M during the course of the weekend. Tried to make it out to Utah today, but was not able to.

Not sure how much we need to look into here.

This is stupid. We'll have a ton of transfers out if we keep this up. Either that or the paid sites don't know there will be a lot of WR transfers.

Yeah, that’s why more important than interior DL
Maybe not right now, but you nor most of us know who the staff is after, or what their plan is.

You have to remember that most of the players in the NFL were not 5 star players. So most of the players in the NFL were virtually unheard of because they weren’t highly ranked/recruited. How many 5 star busts are out there? It wouldn’t surprise me that there’s more than were successful. It’s the development that got the most out of them, even the 5 stars. That’s proof that while it helps, it’s not the end all be all.

Yes, I, and many of you would like a bit more on the DL. But we don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. The 5 stars are great, but you have to trust that the staff will address deficiencies, and continue to identify underrated players (which they seem to be good at doing).

Until they’ve proven they can’t, have some faith.

Is it me or is the staff kind of bla with their effort trying to get transfers on campus. We badly need a DL guy and you woulda thought Vaughns woulda commited by now

I know you are squarely focusing on the DL here, but they have four incoming transfers, and all were on campus before announcing their commitment.

Recruiting is 50/50. Half we know, half we don’t.

We had one known DL target on campus last weekend, and a mystery one. They are putting in effort.

Let it play out before re-asking or re-stating the same question or concerns every day.

This board will post updates as they become available. Just remember that. You will get the information when it is known.

Wait,… who do we have incoming other than Hartman and Smith??

I'm no expert but 1) these high-profile 5th-year players are looking for something different from their current situation and many times a bag and 2) these targets are simply going to high-profile schools that stand out in their head for whatever reason - a great DC, OC or position coach, it's fun to play there/in that city, they want to be highly needed and wined and dined, and again, maybe to be paid. And from what I'm seeing, they are wasting no time in making a decision after their first school visit - they gone! So the initial phone/Web pitch is probably becoming the most important touch point for targeted transfers, but I imagine with 1) ND's promising but kind of boring passing attack and kind of vanilla D over past few years and 2) our kind of not as exciting location (yes, get them on campus and who knows how they react, but they're not making it there), and 3) as Freeman and team not yet an proven CFB Championship-level team, we're just not making the cut and a day later we see Transfer Stud X has committed to other FBS school, and usually the only and first one they visited. I'm sure Freeman and staff are doing their best, but isn't this really the first year of Freeman and staff being fully active in the portal? Maybe there will be some learnings from this year to help them be more effective next year? a Transfer, especially one with only a year left, and HS recruit have two VERY different recruiting processes. That's why it's strange that we apparently wined and dined Vaughns and gave him red carpet treatment and yet there is no immediate commit which is usually the way grad transfers roll (maybe it's a grade thing?) Tbh, from watching that video, I'm not sure Vaughns fits in with ND, but I could def. be wrong. Also, I'm not sure that having former ND interest/being a near miss out of HS really matters to the grad transfer 3-4 years later - It hasn't worked out yet, has it? It is frustrating.

We got the best available QB in the transfer portal, a guy who walks in the door with a better resume than any Notre Dame quarterback since at least Jimmy Clausen, probably Brady Quinn. Also starter-level players at WR and nickel back. Pretty blah.

We'll get a DL too. We just don't know who it is yet.

And yet, Harper, Hartman, and Kaleb Smith all almost immediately committed after their visit. Although Hartman was already a foregone conclusion.

Right, that's the Transfer MO one and done first school visit and they're committed so key is getting that first visit. I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear how those initial calls/web meetings are going.

Semester for ND begins on Monday so any transfers who would visit would pretty much have to commit and then stay on and begin classes after weekend is over to participate in spring ball

I don't see a lot of teams that have great DT depth. I wasn't impressed by anyone not named Georgia or Clemson DL entire season. Alabama and ND were only 1 yard per average different against the run and ultimately ND played better QBs than any other powerhouse team in 2022 season. Sucks not to get Fiske but all you have to find is competition for your roster I think to take next step.
