Goolsby is not a fan of him being assumed the starter if he comes. "If he's so great, why isn't he going to the NFL?" type vibes. He's kinda a ride or die chick for Buchner. I kinda get it.

In fairness, we know he's "great" running Wake's offense. The reason he wants to come to ND is play in a more pro-style offense. So I don't think Goolsby is right/wrong, but I agree we should be cautiously optimistic, yes?

I am going to disagree. I think he will make a huge impact, even if he is not obvious NFL quality.

Just like Buchner's running ability had a immediate impact on the running game since they had to account for him, Hartman's ability to consistently push the ball downfield, making all of those WRs, backs, and TEs more valuable.

Buchner has a ton of potential, but needs to get his throwing motion and accuracy a lot better.

If you don’t tell him he is going to start he probably doesn’t come.
If he gets here & Buchner beats him out then he won’t start.
Goolsby just loves to throw crap out.
He did a whole show talking about how bad ND’s LBs all suck & think they are all too good.
He got tore apart by everyone a lot better at football & smarter than him about it. I mean, have you ever seen Bertrand or Kiser or White (last year) not play hard? Ever seen them act stupid & celebrate the U style while getting destroyed?
Goolsby gets over emotional and throws stuff out.

Or he is just confident he would win out. I would rather have the guy that is confident in his ability to win the job then someone that wants the job handed to him.

Yes, exactly. He is the starter, barring injury, from the day he registers. No competition. Why would he waste his time and risk his future in a prospective QB battle? Buchner knows he’s the backup at this point.

Agreed. MF could call it an open competition if he wants, but it would be a "competition" in name only. Even if TB "beat out" Hartman leading up to the season, there is ZERO chance he is actually named the starter. Can you imagine the intense "fire" that MF would have to face if he started TB over Hartman (the career passing leader in the ACC) and he ends up turning the ball over repeatedly and we lose?

If you are lucky enough to get Hartman to transfer to ND, he is the immediate starter as soon as the ink dries.

I just looked about the career passing leaders in NCAA history and assuming he starts and stays healthy he should finish somewhere between 2nd and 4th all time in NCAA history.

He would need 2800 passing yards to get 4th, 3700 to get 3rd and 4100 to get 2nd

IN 2021 he threw for 4,228
IN 2022 he threw for 3,701

TBF, Hartman will throw it up to his receiver and let him make a play. Not every single pass is perfectly in stride, maybe that's his complaint? I love how aggressive Hartman is and how good he is at identifying single coverage or identifying when a receiver has leverage on the coverage. He has a keen eye for that.

Jack Coan helped us hit 3600 yds in 2021 and he threw for 27 TDs and 5 ints. I would think a healthy Hartman could beat those numbers.

Of his 12 INTs, 6 were on passes over 20 yards. From a % standpoint, it’s not a concerning #. PFF has a Turnover Worthy Play % and his is fine.
