Not my first choice if he does come here. I don’t agree that they were talking to him before he announced he was transferring.

We bitched about other teams doing. We can’t talk out of both sides of our mouth.

What does everyone think? Would you rather have Hartman or Card?

Was Hartman the plan all along?
I'd be thrilled with Hartman. He would certainly fit the rumor we've continued hearing about ND's target being someone who didn't declare for the portal yet (even though I previously thought that was Pratt).

I love the experience that Hartman brings, which is at the top with some of the other established, experienced QBs in the portal.

I'll take Hartman if he's the best we can do. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about how he'd look in a non-mesh/WF offense.

I'd take Card but it's possible that Card is more interested in other schools than ND.

Right. That’s what I was trying to say. If Hartman can be convinced that it will be there if he comes then good on him. I also posted this before looking at the previous page where someone posted that Eric Hansen reported Hartman to ND. If true…wow!
Hansen isn't prone to "being the first to report" and is pretty careful about stuff like this.

I’ve said for years NDs vertical passing game is limited almost entirely by just the mentality of Book and Pyne. More than their physical limitations and definitely more than scheme. We saw when Coan was QB (and protected) we got vertical more than we’ve done since Kizer. Hartman likes to throw vertical. That is the biggest positive of this move.

If ND wants to compete in the portal, they need to do this. If you're not already communicating through third parties, you won't have a chance at anyone.

Dude, we know you love Card, and think he fits what Tommy is looking for (for some reason).

Not sure how in any way/shape/form this would even be a debate .

It would be complete and udder malpractice if Tommy had the choice between the two and went with Card.

I just never thought Hartman was a real option, to be honest. But if he is, major props to Marcus and Tommy. I don’t know if he’s a guaranteed slam dunk though.

But, yeah, Card would be a great option too. Both would instantly make the QB room better. At the end of the day, that’s always the end goal.

FBS QBR Rank Last 2 Seasons

2022 & 2021 Seasons
McCall - 44th & 8th
Hartman - 19th & 12th
Leary - 75th & 29th
Pratt - 47th & 101st
Card - DNQ & DNQ

Career QB Efficiency Rating
1) McCall - 187.7
2) Card - 148.1
3) Hartman - 144.8
4) Pratt - 143.6
5) Leary - 139.0

I like Hartman a lot. He's been a starting QB in the ACC for years. He'll be a 6th year senior and super experienced playing in big games. I think Card is good but he's definitely more of a risk because he hasn't been a season-long starter and has been more of a bench player so it's projecting what he might be as opposed to Hartman you know what you're getting which is a very very good QB. The man has been top 20 the last two seasons in QBR at Wake Forest which is super impressive.

I understand what you are saying 100%. But at the same time we can’t bitch about others doing and then do the same thing.

Hart has plenty of experience though.

I also don't like the "slow mesh" (might be the first time I've agreed with Matt on anything!) but Hartman ran a different offense at Wake his first two years there and he was top notch. Better than this year by some metrics.

I wouldn't take Hartman unless we could also get their OC lol.....
I’m not advocating for Hartman but does everyone think he can only play if it’s in the slow mesh? Im sure he’s capable of playing the position without it

Clawson’s already talked openly about Hartman transferring. Wake Forest may have actually permitted him to talk to outside teams in order to keep him through the bowl game; but that’s complete speculation on my part.

I don't get this take either, that is just one thing they do. They run standard RPO, shotgun/shot plays ect ect.... Slow mesh is a wrinkle in their offense. FSU does this too. It's a change up to a fastball

Give me Hartman and I will say that is a real good transfer. I like him better then O'leary and i think he fits better. Plus he is short! Rees will be content.

Wait, people aren't sold on Sam freaking Hartman? lol

It doesn't get much better than that (realistically) for a proven veteran that can teach your young guys for 2024
Oh I gladly take him. He's just not at the top of my board. But as I mentioned, we have no clue how interested other QB's are. For example, Hudson Card could like other schools better and there's nothing ND can really do.

Their offense relies on the QB making quick and correct reads and being very accurate. Hartman could play in any offense with his skill set.

I actually really like the slow mesh, as a "change up" like I said before. If Hartman does pick ND, then I think this could be an opportunity to teach the teacher. It's been reported that Tommy often watches other offenses and copy cats plays (rightfully so), and I wonder if he has any interest in adding the slow mesh to the RPO game.

We can bitch about the state of the game all we want and still realize we need to be playing by the same rules everyone else is. We are not ND and we are not the NCAA. We are fans.

He was either going to the NFL or transfer.

He's been on record saying, with the utmost respect to Wake Forest, that he wants a fresh start and move onto something new/different.

Can't play a team dirty if their QB said during the season, that he's likely to move on. That's called capitalizing on an oppourtunity.

So he doesn't have the same advisors as Peyton Bowen. Understood.

Any insight on why wake started 6-1 to finish 7-5 and in a pre Christmas bowl? Injuries, back loaded schedule maybe?

100% agree, I think having that in the playbook for occasional use should keep the opposing defenses off balance.
