You probably can. But the point was that one is naturally more explosive than the other and playing in the MAC doesn't change that.
Could appear more explosive by going against even less explosive players at a lower level

The 33 INTs over 3 years for Armstrong is a bit concerning though.

Absolutely. But it helps that he throws a lot of touchdowns to somewhat overshadow that fact. It only happened last year, which goes back to the conversation of what made him a “one year wonder”.

He’s thrown a pick in a majority of starts for three straight years. 2 clean games in 2020, 3 clean in 2021, actually 4 clean games this year. He’s as likely two throw two INTs in a game as zero. Stay away to me.

Good digging.

Yeah, I like Card too if we're taking a transfer. He's a good talent, supposedly interested, and I don't think he scares off our committed guys as a Senior who will likely get drafted if he performs like we expect.

Seems like ODU fans expected him to leave, but for the NFL, not the portal.

He was just named first team all sun belt.

Against P5 competition this year, he went for 122 yards on 5 catches against Virginia Tech and had 7 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown against UVA.

That's pretty good. At WR, I'd probably rather take an older guy, all things being equal. We're finally re-stocking the room and don't really want to crowd out the younger guys for years to come.

And yeah Card > Armstrong, for our purposes. But you talk with all of them.

Cade maybe think to wait till Iowa actually had WRs to commit?

Anybody in sports media tracking the numbers as far as kids who enter the portal and do not get picked up?

Would be interesting to see those numbers.

The flip side to the portal is teams will no longer have any reservations to straight cut kids. I bet the numbers are pretty grim and most of the public commentary on the issue will be that the players were misguided to transfer when the reality is many had no choice.

See, this is why I think they should do away with the 85 man limit and just have a limit on how many you can bring in each year, with maybe an exception for coaching changes. It would incentivize treating players well, wouldn't force players off the team, and would actually be a competitive benefit for those teams that keep players and develop them so they can have an old and deep team compared to teams full of guys who want to leave for the NFL or a better NIL deal at the earliest opportunity.

Those are some amazing numbers. I wonder if anybody takes it the next step of how many enter the portal and don't play at all the next season.
What is the schools stance on the roughly 59% that don’t land elsewhere? I would think it’s fine to cut them loose from their scholly w out and backlash. I know each school can and will take their own stance on the issue but if I’m in a position of decision making I’d say you were looking thus, we are too. I would feel no more responsibility to honor that scholly if they don’t find a new home.

Transfer portal stats are heavily skewed by walk-ons looking for a place that may give them a scholarship.

That makes sense. It would be flat bonkers for that many kids to walk away from a scholarship/football career.

If a student enters the portal the school is no longer obligated to provide tuition or other assistance.
