so the portal timeline. someone help me understand because the other day i got some snarky remark about how its not open yet.

but then im seeing quotes like this:

"Ole Miss, Penn State, West Virginia, Mississippi State, Rutgers, they have all offered," Fiske said. "I'm getting a lot of calls. Florida State reached out, pretty much every school you can think of has called but those ones I listed are the ones that have officially offered."

and

"It's all so fresh, I haven't even been in the portal for 24 hours."

So what is considered "legal" communication, i.e. you are allowed to offer your scholarship but not recruit i.e. visits?

The players can enter the portal at any time but its not "open" meaning coaches cant actually go see who is in it or they cant actually enter the portal until a certain date but merely a formality?

Student-athletes who will enroll at another school after graduating are now allowed to enter the Transfer Portal at any time, the Division I Council decided during its virtual meeting Wednesday.

On Aug. 31, the Division I Board of Directors adopted new transfer rules — effective immediately — that required student-athletes to enter the Transfer Portal during sport-specific transfer windows.

After today's Council action, student-athletes who plan to compete the following year as postgraduate students are exempt from those windows. Today's action does not exempt the students from implications associated with the decision to enter the Transfer Portal, including the reduction or cancellation of athletics financial aid for their next academic term.

So I guess they don't have to have graduated yet to have graduate transfer status WRT the portal. So if Card is indeed graduating this winter he isn't bound by the portal transfer window.

Don't ask the NCAA, they don't know....

Loy thinks ND gets involved

He's an undergraduate, though. Not sure what Iowa is like academically, but he is a business major. Maybe it's possible?

He was a four-star recruit, and had a nice freshman year, but hardly played this season. Ferentz called it a "nagging injury", so it's nothing serious.

I don’t think he was hurt at all. No info but that’s the vibe around it

Gonna wait and see how ND approaches the portal this year before thinking it's possible or not. Sounds like things may be different. Different enough that it makes a tangible difference? TBD.

I don't know how immediate ND's new approach will be with the transfer portal, and how it's relates to undergraduates. Obviously, just having that conversation and making those changes is going to help ND in the long run and stay competitive, but I feel that whatever changes they do implement, will be on a step-by-step basis, with yearly progression.

There will be a lot to change in one year, and ND is not particularly a school to rush into big changes.

It's an excellent state school but it's a state school. Meaning he could be taking anything from a very challenging course load surrounded by future Ph.D.'s or he could have 60 credits in personal fitness and public speaking.
