I feel like putting Nick Rolovich and Art Briles in the same sentence isn't quite right, unless Rolo did something beyond making the big fuss about not getting vaxed. That's a world of a difference between what he did and Art Briles allowed to happen to the women of Baylor

While not on Brile's level hes still a shithead

Exactly Pops.....I'd make them fire me.
It’s not that he should head to Liberty, but Tom Allen is a pretty random name with a pretty lackluster last couple years for them to randomly latch onto. For whatever reason, there’s smoke there.

Also, Liberty agreed to pay Freeze more than Allen makes at IU. If IU fires him, he’ll have that $20mil, sure, but will he immediately step into a HC role after that the same way he would at Liberty?

He's going to walk away from the $20 million he's still owed in exchange for the Liberty job?
Bingo. Makes absolutely no sense. Get fired then go get your next job.

I have been noticing a lot of these recently fired coaches or guys on the hot seat, like Allen, had their programs in good places in 2019. Then 2020 happened. IU goes 8-5 in 2019, made it through pandemic ball at 6-2, then it all falls off.

I assume in addition to Covid they're dealing with NIL and The Portal now same as everyone else.

He's a shithead and a tool, not a straight up monster. So probably a good fit for Liberty, yeah

For liberty being such a religious university, I can’t see how they would hire either of these two and I shocked that Freeze was there. Just blows my mind.

His good assistants all get hired away and he’s a defensive guy totally dependent on an OC to come in and magic up some offense. As a very casual IU fan I don’t think he’s going to right the ship.

Liberty being a religious university is not the same as ND being a Catholic university. The founders of Liberty were televangelists, not a religious order who traveled across the world to the middle of nowhere to build a college on request of the local bishop.

Who paid themselves (and their pool boy) millions of dollars from the university.

Would they want someone with HC experience? Candle from Toledo, Helton from WKU?

I have no idea. Allen was an internal promotion when Kevin Wilson wore out his welcome and gave them an excuse to fire him.

Wilson was a career OC (and a very good one) who didn't get HC opportunities because of his personality. Hiring him was a good risk for IU even if it didn't work in hindsight.

Elevating Allen was then about keeping the good parts of the program together and wanting a guy who didn't share Wilson's negatives.

I can't believe UAB is hiring Dilfer. That is hilariously stupid.

Split Zone Duo said they botched the process and were leading themselves to believe Dan Mullen, names like that were possible

I didn't know Cincinnati was in the mix for him. Watch that one...he is VERY fond of Cincinnati. In one of his videos he spends a good amount time talking about how he loved playing for the Reds and tried to work a deal with the Bengals but they wouldn't negotiate.

If Cinci is in play, that is a no brainer for me.

Long story, but my Dad once spent a night out in Cinci with Deion (allegedly). If the story is even 1/2 true I can confirm he LOVES the city.

Arrogance? Stupidity?

The Dilfer hire is interesting. Definitely not on anyone's radar. Bill Clark did a great job at UAB.

Bill Clark to Trent Dilfer is like falling off a cliff.
The players have voiced their support for the interim guy.

This seems like the kind of job you maybe reach out to someone like Skip Holtz and Randy Shannon for. The last possible stop for them as HC retreads.

Otherwise, you dig into FCS and see if you can find a young guy ready to move up.

I know nothing about Trent Dilfer other than he is coaching HS and plays for a state championship this weekend.

They have some new(er) facilities don't they? Not that is really matters but he isn't Cincy with Under armour and he is personally, correct? Seems to be a better gig on the surface than Colorado.

I mean we're the best and most devoted christian university on planet earth but nobody cared about declan sullivan or lizzy seeberg. Football is money and that's all these universities really care about.

I believe they have newish facilities. I think it's a far better job than Colorado. Almost all of the recent coaches have had success and they are moving into the Big 12 that won't have Texas and Oklahoma soon.

Yes. Improved facilities and resources. Just in time for the move to the Big 12.
