The worst shit I’ve heard so far from Freeman, who I have held out hope for since his hire, on this season is saying Tommy is doing “an excellent job.” No disrespect, but what the fuck are you talking about?
I'm ok with not calling him out in the media.

But he can't actually believe that.

Cam Rising... Spencer Sanders. QB's all across the country that you can win with.

Just not at ND.
We would be great if we had either one of those guys. QB is the most important player out there and despite Book doing a yeomans job neither he or anyone else we have had could compete at the Bama GA level.

Kelly lost many games like this early in his tenure, and Fickell would have as well. I'm still glad we gambled on taking the next step rather than the safe hire.
How many games that Kelly was favored by 20 did he lose. None I think and certainly not in the same season. This team and coaching staff suck badly.

Tommy Rees is now a worse hire than BVG!!! That should do it. Kelly pulled the trigger mid season on that loser and freeman needs to nut up and can Tommy’s ass. He can hire Charlie Weiss kid……

I still believe you give freeman 2 years but you have to be able to prepare your team for a game, even my sister who doesn’t watch football asked why he has no emotions. There’s stoic but cmon man let go and go purple it can help.

Tommy’s done. Everything from play calls, execution, and scheme was awful. Golden needs to get blown up by freeman.

The defense has some annoying moments but that unit is the least of this teams problems.

I don’t know if it was the right call but the end around to Thomas that failed was. Ot high percentage. You didn’t spread anyone out and everyone was grouped right there together. The situation is a good one to go for but the play call was dumb.

If you kick the FG and take the points that’s 17 and another ugly win.

Lots of take always from this thread.

I see multiple people stating our ceiling is now 8 wins…… like are you saying 8 wins total over the entire Freeman era? Cause there is sure as hell no way we get 8 wins this year.

Michigan and Tennessee having similar talent. Sure Michigan is comparable, but that Tennessee atmosphere will never be replicated at ND. Like how cool would it be seeing all the fans wear green, or even a matching color? Only time we came close was when Nebraska and Georgia came to visit and all the fans were wearing red.

I’ve always seen the Freeman hire as a lose-lose. Giving a first time head coach the mantle is too much at ND. Even if he’s successful? A string of 10 win seasons would just make him Ryan Day’s heir apparent.

The student section at ND is pathetic looking on TV most of them were standing around hands in their pockets

At least Freeman looks smooth and fresh. I’d rather have an alpha dog. This team’s attention to deal is atrocious. I dislike Kelly and I’m glad he’s gone, but his teams checked that box and we won many close games as a result. We have two very bad losses this year because we are lacking in this area and that goes to the top. Keep looking smooth Billy D.

I’ll say this and that’s it…. I have no earthly rationale as to why we didn’t run the ball 70 times against their pathetically small d line.
This boils down to TR. Not only was this game not properly game planned from the beginning, there were zero adjustments. That’s 100% on him. He’s sticking to his game plan no matter what instead of recognizing what’s happening in front of him and adjusting on the fly.

I think a lot of that has to do with his inexperience. If BK was here, BK would have no problem telling him to change through the headset. I don’t think MF feels comfortable doing that because of his own inexperience.

Swarbrick will allow the season to play out so we’re just going to have to suffer through it but this off-season, MF needs to look real hard at finding a replacement for TR.

You would too if you were witnessing this putrid display that was out there.
That opening drive was one of the most clueless looking drives I’ve seen in a long time. It was pathetic. Every ND fan who watched it knew what was coming after that.

The Good
  • Congrats to Tobias Merriweather. That’s going to be the first of many touchdowns. Ball from Pyne was a dime
  • NaNa was immense. He stopped a bunch of plays in their tracks. One jumped out where the RB would have ran for 15+ if NaNa didn’t make a great stop at the LOS
  • Riley Mills played an awesome game and stuffed the run
  • Joe Alt should be the first OL taken in the draft in two years. Guy is amazing. We’re gonna miss him
The Bad
  • Drew Pyne was horrendous most of the game outside of a few throws. He stares down Mayer the entire route. His deep ball to Merriweather was a beauty, but I was actually more impressed by Pyne’s legs last night than his arm, which isn’t good.
  • Lorenzo Styles has the yips. He’ll figure it out.
  • Al Golden. Score is a little deceiving because the defense didn’t play a good game. No one on the staff seems to be able to make in game adjustments.
The Ugly
  • This team looks like they don’t practice tackling. Multiple plays with multiple missed tackles
  • Lenzy. Just Lenzy. If you’re gonna get caught from behind why are you on the field?
  • Tommy Rees. Keep it simple stupid. Did Estime and Diggs even get a carry in the first half? I’m not going to beat a dead horse here because others already have but this was a joke of a game by him
  • Marcus Freeman. I love everything about the man besides his on field demeanor. He looks scared, weak, and nervous. I know that is not what he is, but he needs to project a stronger image.
  • The officiating was garbage and didn’t help.
  • Our turnover luck. There’s a major degree of luck to turnovers. A few bounces go our way this season and who knows what this season looks like

I’ve seen some bad losses in my life. This one hurts the most because you wouldn’t think they’d allow something like what happened with Marshall happen again. Stanford is the second or third worst team on the schedule. No excuse. The other terrible losses coincidentally came in Kelly’s first year in Navy and Tulsa. Call it what you want, but anyone out on Marcus already is jumping the gun. The 2010 team had just as much talent as 2022 if not more. Where Kelly’s coaching could overcome talent deficiencies, Marcus’s recruiting will overcome his inexperienced coaching as he learns and becomes a good one. I hope.

P.S. Get rid of pregame mass

Maybe before the next home game, instead of mass and player walk, they can do an exorcism and shame walk. Just a thought...

Not 3rd stringers though, which is what you posted. The stars are fine wherever they go. But the degree absolutely matters for the majority of the roster, even at the Big 3.
Whiskey
You are being intentionally obtuse.
3rd stringers are getting job opportunities every year that you and I would never get.

It may be limited to boosters who have never paid a player in their lives, but they are recruiting Joe Schmoe to apply to their company because they have the perfect job for them.

I get it our one major selling point left is the degree when compared to other major programs.
But that only holds up as long we are playing big boy football.

Swarbrick caved to the players and a single recruiting class.

I personally think if Swarbrick hadn't hired Tommy first and instead hired someone like Golden to run the offense we wouldn't be having this conversation.

He didn't and we are.

The media needs to ask Jack about that and hold is feet to the fire. "Jack, why did you feel the need to bend over backwards to keep your OC who isn't a very good talent evaluator before you even named your new head coach?"

How many more times does Freeman lose to garbage football teams before he gets billboarded like Chuck Weis?

College coaching internship or something like that I think it said…

He'll get a pass this year. But other factors may prevent that from ever happening.

Not yet. We knew there was going to be a learning curve just didn’t think this steep. It would be one thing if we were recruiting like Michigan but right now ND has a top 3 class. The trajectory is pointing upwards, as frustrating as this season has been.
