That's like when a kick returner puts one foot out of bounds and catches the kickoff. Even though he caught it, his foot makes it a penalty for a kick out of bounds.

I agree; the announcer appears to get it wrong though, "He smartly calls a fair catch after the one high bounce." I don't think you can call a fair catch on a bounce, and it looked to me like the kicker got under the ball and just popped it up, without a bounce.

I've seen a similar play before. I always assumed that was why the traditional method was to kick it into the ground for a high bounce but I have no idea if that actually does affect the fair catch rule.

EDIT: I guess this is why you should read a thread to the end before responding to a post.
