Total Control? Freeman has no idea what he is doing. Every time the camera focused on him, he had the look of person who is way in over his head. The problem with the team is that we don't have a head coach. We have a person role playing as a head coach. He has delegated everything to his coordinators not as a choice but out of necessity. He doesn't have a well of knowledge to share...what could he possibly offer Rees or Golden? This team is desperately looking for true leadership...not the rah rah superficial BS that gullible people fall for.
Yeah. He’d be way better with an Al Golden type as OC and a Rees type as DC. He’s probably way more comfortable helping out on the defensive side.

Freeman has already proved he’s in over his head.

He must learn quickly or we’ll be off the tracks

3 games in, "Marcus Freeman Revisited" and it's not even inappropriate and the discussion is rational. Telling and classic.

I want him to fail with his guy. We can't fire a coach this quick. Give him an experienced OC and make him manage it.

? With his guy? Why would a successful OC come to tutor and prop up a "head coach"? No, Freeman isn't going to be fired. We are stuck with him.

I genuinely don't believe this is on Freeman. He inherited the problems that brought us to 0-2, including Rees. He needs to be given a chance to bring in his people and a couple recruiting classes minimum. The problem is does he have the authority to make the appropriate changes?

Good grief. Rees is who he is and Freeman signed up knowing it. The fact that Freeman didn't demand another OC should have clued you to Freeman's ignorance and ambition. Freeman inherited a team with good personnel. He knew we lacked a QB and he didn't do anything in the offseason to address. Why? Because he was too busy acting. My hope is that these three games have embarrassed and exposed him enough for him to become serious with his job. Otherwise, we are looking at Ty 2.0.

We have enough talent on this team that this should have been a win. It’s coaching the offense since half time in the bowl game has been down right terrible.

It’s hi Jon to get this team to play with passion and they didn’t at all today. He hire his special teams buddy and it’s been worse than the offense. Our the dline is the worst we have seen in years and there is talent there. Matter of fact it’s been the back none of the defense.

Hurt his non-throwing arm (shoulder?) being tackled.

I was watching on mute at a bar but cringed during that absolutely brutal extended solo shot on MF when it was all going sideways. At that moment, he looked in over his head.

Hope he gets it together.

You’re going to fault Freeman for seizing an opportunity of a lifetime? Come on. Also, it’s disingenuous to say he inherited a team with good personnel when we knew from last year our WR room was depleted and undertrained, our OL was suspect, and our QB was going to be a guy with a questionable arm and relative inexperience with no real back up. Criticize away, but don’t fill up a cupboard that was barren in key areas.
Fault Freeman? Heavens no, you have to give him credit for selling himself as well as he has. He is just incompetent.

You think Marshall's personnel was two scores better than ours?

I definitely feel as though Brian Kelly left (at least in part) because he knew this was going to be a bad team.
Freeman has been thrown under the bus a bit.
There is simply no real coaching experience at all on the offense.
I really think the move for Freeman would be to get the best QB coach available in starting today.

Inherited problems? We've lost 1 game to a non playoff team the last 4 years. Freemans lost 2 in 3 chances.

Freeman is 0-2. Not 0-3 by any rational metric.

People can become skeptical about trusting him to take us further. Perfectly rational. I'm gonna give him this year to get some shit sorted.

But today sucks. No way around it. I recall dropping a couple head scratchers in high school wrestling (the closest I can relate) but never fell on my face like this.

Gut check time. Nobody feels worse than coach right now. Let's give the man some rope. He can hang himself, or he can pull us out of the mud. Ball is in his court. Let's pull for him.

A little, maybe a lot, of the blame for this shitshow needs to fall on Swarbrick. He put the program in this spot. It’s not good. And the hell of it is, I’ll bet that freeman turns into a really great coach, someday, somewhere else, after he’s let go. But you cannot learn on the job at notre dame. You can’t.

Part of being a great HC is knowing who to hire. Hiring an o line and d line coach that were just fired at their last stops and letting a kid with minimal experience run the offense are going to get him off to a terrible start.

I’m just pissed this discussion isn’t happening in the Marcus freeman revisited thread I made months ago!! I knew this was coming!

Pfft! I made the "We tackle like s***, Freeman must quit!" thread before that even. Pretty sure that was after the FSU game. I was ahead of the curve.

That was a critique of him as a DC. Completely different ball game!

This Bob Davie, Tye Willingham, Redux. More Bob Davie. No track record and we expect Nattys? ND married an inexperienced Defensive Coordinator with an inexperienced Offensive Coordinator and expect anything else other than a complete Shit Show? LOL!!!

Swarbrick should have said: "We are Catholics, we believe in redemption and forgiveness (and we aren't stupid because we want to win) and therefore we will give Urban Meyer his second coming.

Its funny how many people thought Marcus Freeman could walk on water. Guess what? He is just a nice guy.

ND did not have the patience to commit to a rebuild. Every other option on the table required a rebuild. So they bet it all on Freeman, a hire with extreme boom/bust potential. Not looking good so far, but it is what it is.
