2. Hartline might get a HC position. I don't see Ryan Day letting him go to be an OC for us. Would love to have him though!

Respectfully, there is a difference between Hartline and Rees. Rees is the beneficiary of ND and BK nepotism. I don't view that in Hartline's career.

I think that is a valid question. There is much to ask/hope for. But I don’t think we’ll have that answer until MF gets him some players.

What I would say is that Hartline has proven to be an ELITE recruiter and in terms of production seems like one of (if not the single best WR) coach in CFB.

But finding good coordinators is about aligning experience and track record with strategic intelligence and potential. Sometimes you need to gamble on someone like McVay and hope that you are correct. That’s what you would be doing with someone like Hartline, who has no experience or track record.

Arguably, I think you would be way better off re-treading failed HCs like Bama does. There are a LOT of coaches who have proven that they’re good play callers but failed HCs. I would not hand the reigns of ND’s offense to someone who hasn’t shown that they can call plays at any level. That’s what we did with Rees, which if you’re unhappy with that I think it would imply that following the same hiring process would be a mistake.

Not to pile on but it’s also two games in a row of getting his lunch money taken in the second half and doing nothing about besides peeing down his leg and calling draw.

I worry that maybe he's inflexible or really is auditioning for the NFL. I'm hoping that it's just his comfort zone and he'll break that over the next couple weeks. Buchner is too dynamic to be handled like this. Hoping just a one game safety net (which I don't think he should have done)

The two coaches that were part of the Brian Kelly era were the ones that struggled the most last night as evidenced by mediocre line play and 0 scored points in half two. Tommy Rees needs to reinvent his approach to second halves. If not, Clemson is going to eat him alive.

Yup. You can't blame the chef if the ingredients are bad but if you bought the ingredients yourself you should know what is on the menu and sign off on it and own it. The QB room for a top10 team is and should be fireable by itself.

I agree and he does deserve flack for it, but… the ‘23 receiver class is pretty good and the CJ Carr commitment is saving his ass. The problem is these kids aren’t even going to be good and ready to play for 2-3 more years. What we have this year is a mess and next season any incoming help will be very inexperienced.

Not to mention he is STILL the Qb coach in addition to being OC. He's owned the position for 6 years. I like Buchner's fight and toughness but his mechanics are not up to par. So what is Rees teaching as a QB coach?

My wife made the comment last night that TB12 was lucky to hurt his foot and not play in the spring game or the coaches probably would have been looking for a transfer. Which got my wheels turning a bit knowing they have seen TB and Pyne practice all last season. With NIL and all the moving peices around college football it is just sad ND has a TB12 behind center. There had to be someone on the portal to at least provide depth. Give me Cade McNamara once he loses his job at this point.
