States Most Dependent on the Federal Government - 2021 Edition - SmartAsset

4. Mississippi

Federal government money in Mississippi makes up 2.19 times more than the income taxes paid in the state, the second-highest ratio for this metric in our study. Federal funding represents 42.22% of the state’s government revenue, the fourth-highest percentage overall. Mississippi also finishes 12th for workers employed by the federal government, at 3.01%.

5. Louisiana

Louisiana gets 46.42% of its budget from the federal government, the highest percentage in the study for this metric. The Bayou State also ranks seventh-highest for its 1.35 ratio between federal funding and income taxes paid. Federal employees make 1.75 times more than private sector employees, the 10th-highest rate for this metric overall.

I mean I guess it’s easy to promote you have all these low taxes and shit when 40% of your operating revenue comes from blue states.
How do we figure 40% of the revenue comes from blue states if 46% total comes from the Feds? That would mean 86% of federal tax dollars come from blue states. That seems a little high.

My guess on where she is: Idaho.

Don't know it for a fact, just know it's true.
I guess you didn't read the story.

The motion acknowledged Peters had gone to Las Vegas, Nevada, this week to speak at a sheriff's conference.
Investigators learned that Peters had filed a document with Griswold's office this week, requesting a recount of the primary election and that it was notarized in Las Vegas. That revelation led Mesa County District Attorney Daniel Rubinstein to file a motion to revoke Peters' bond.

They have unfunded liabilities which I have on good authority means they don't actually have a surplus. No horn tooting for the Hoosier state!
Please clarify. Your post implies that you have inside information and not what is publicly available?

I assume you're talking about the pension plan? Pretty much every state is in this boat. A lot of that is due to the performance of the market.

Personally I would rather they commit that surplus to fixing the roads.

Bc that fat Cuck Holcomb is a democrat in disguise. The first thing he did when he got in office was drive around the state trying to tell Hoosiers why the single biggest tax increase of our lifetime was a good idea. I know what a fat bastard selling taxes as a good thing is, that’s a democrat

I was making a call back to Polish's hand waving a California budget surplus due to unfunded liabilities.
From an article in The Center Square. Whatever that is.

The states with the most unfunded liabilities are California ($1.53 trillion), Illinois ($533.72 billion), Texas ($529.70 billion), New York ($508.70 billion) and Ohio ($429.53 billion). These five states alone account for more than $3.5 trillion in unfunded liabilities, or about 43% of all unfunded liabilities in the U.S.

The bottom 10 states make up $4.9 trillion, or 59.36% of all unfunded liabilities, according to the ALEC report. On a per capita basis, the bottom five state are Alaska ($42,829), Illinois ($41,656.79), Connecticut ($40,427.58), Hawaii ($39,939.43), New Jersey ($39,849.02) and California ($38,713.16).

"As state pension plans invest their funds in increasingly risky assets, the gap between expected rates of return and actual rates of return widens, with results falling far short of expectations," the authors of the report wrote. "When investment returns fail to meet expectations, taxpayers and plan members must make up the difference through increased contributions."

The states with the least unfunded pension liabilities were Vermont ($14.43 billion), South Dakota ($14.44 billion), North Dakota ($15.13 billion), Delaware ($18.46 billion) and Wyoming ($18.71 billion). On a per capita basis, the lowest were Tennessee ($8,511.92), Indiana ($10,188.66), Nebraska ($13,370.44), Florida ($14,062.16) and Idaho ($15,918.74).

No state in the U.S. has fully funded its pension plans. The state with the highest funding ratio in the nation is Wisconsin at 56% and New Jersey was the lowest at 18%.

There should be a very clear cut policy and stiff penalty for making money off of a political office. It’s clear cut corruption.
I know it's been proposed by someone, but they need to pass that law that states anyone in congress can't purchase individual stocks. Mutual funds only. Obviously the people that would have to pass it are the ones that are making millions off it. So it will never happen. Almost everyone who enters Congress comes out filthy rich regardless of their level of wealth entering Congress. Gee I wonder why. Part of it is influence peddling. Part of it is certainly insider trading.

Yep. This is a broken part of true system but SCOTUS rules that donations don’t even present the appearance of corruption so why would it be that the same people are unable to use their position to generate personal income.

It’s the same reason term limits will never be instituted in US Congress. When we allow folks to be able to vote themselves more benefits & advantages, we get what we see today. I bet everyone on this board can agree with your post. I also suspect we can all agree that there should be an upper age limit to elected officials. There’s too many septuagenarians running the country IMO. The median age of congress is 60 years old. Here are the five oldest members of congress:

Don Young, 87: US Rep from Alaska
Dianne Feinstein, 87: US Senator from Calif
Chuck Grassley, 87: US Senator from Iowa
Richard Shelby, 86: US Senator from Alabama
Jim Inhofe, 86: US Senator from OK

Here are the ages of the leaders in Congress:

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House is 82
Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader is 72
Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader is 80

What incentive do these folks possess to truly bring meaningful change to the gridlock & divisiveness we see in Congress today? They get elected decades ago and the only thing they’ve improved is their ability to pick winning stocks & vote themselves more benefits while they set laws for us that rarely affect their personal lives (i.g., healthcare, guns).

I would say do the same for SCOTUS as well. The entitlement these folks have is disgusting. Most won’t give up their power until they take their last breath.

Arkansas tried to impose term limits on their congressional delegation i believe. SCOTUS told them it was unconstitutional. If I recall correctly, one of the reasons was that the constitution is explicit on the requirements to be a member of Congress. I THINK.

So if that's the case, seems like an amendment would be needed.

As for age limits, I don't think that's a good idea. Voters can take that into consideration. But seems pretty arbitrary to just say "hey Jim, I know you are fully coherent, popular, and in great health, but you are 72 years old. You legally can't be elected."

That sort of stuff is amusingly ironic. The party of AOC complaining about somebody from the other side being batshit crazy. The party of Pelosi and Hillary complaining about the other side being crooked and dishonest. The party of Biden accusing anyone else of being dumb. The party of George Wallace, Robert Byrd, and the Klan accusing the other side of racism. It's like a page right out of Orwell.

A dude was set loose in the women's locker room.

BoringSpectacularBlobfish-max-1mb.gif

This whole time I assumed Thomas was post-op, which doesn't make things much better because he still has all the advantages of being born male...did not realize he still has his junk...and that he was changing in the women's locker room and not bothering to hide his stuff. WTF?! How did officials let this happen at all? Unbelievable. Those girls were absolutely robbed this season, and Thomas should probably be charged for exposing himself. Imagine if a regular man just went into any women's locker room and stripped down, he'd be escorted out by police. This shit is loony.
