1. Kids don't care about old history. GMAFB!
2. ND does not have a QB in the class. "Who is going to throw to me?" (Dabo: "Ronan, you remember Chris Vizzina from our camps, right?")

As it stands now, why would Ronan pick ND? The loss of Moore and the uncertainty of 2023 QB recruiting has set in.

He is gone.
Isn't there another ND forum you can espouse your wisdom on?

A couple of good years? 2 National Championships and 6 ACC championships between 2011-2021

I agree with the assistant coach stuff, but they had an incredible run.
Both NC were with the same QB and RB team that started as True Freshmen.
And winning the ACC doesnt make you worldbeaters in any stretch of the imagination.

With this ideaology, that a HS QB makes a CFB team relevant, then only 3 teams can possibly be relevant a year. So if you dont get a 5 star QB, your class sucks?
What someone does in HS doesnt translate to college MOST the time. We had some great, cant lose HS QBs who sucked it up in college.
Im convinced that ND would have lost Moore eventually one way or another. Lack of immediate play time or just not getting his butt kissed enough would have prompted him to go elsewhere. People like him are mercenary and only care about their calling.

Making the playoff twice recently is relevant in my book,
That's fair. I guess winning a playoff game or New Year's Bowl is relevant to me.
It's like saying the Cowboys haven't been recant since 1995. I mean, they have been.....but not really.

So in terms of teams that have won playoff games:

Oregon
OSU
Clemson
Bama
UGA
LSU

In my opinion, recently speaking, Bama, OSU, UGA, and Clemson would be considered more "relevant" than ND. Who else would you put over ND in relevance?

OSU’s championship was in 2015, since then… they have been a glorified Oklahoma

They've been to four playoffs, won two games, and they always seem to be top 8 in the nation. If it were based on titles, LSU won in 2020. Would you put them as more relevant than ND?

No, I was giving Sea Turtle a list of teams that have won a playoff game. I would say the only teams more relevant than ND right nwo are Bama, OSU, UGA, and Clemson. However, if Clemson has another season like last season, they'll move out a bit.

We should probably ask the mods to move this conversation to the general notre dame info thread. I would answer a couple of the questions asked of me but there is more appropriate.

Whoa what? in that time they're 79-10, a playoff appearance (won in the semis, lost the NC), NY6 appearance in the other 6 years (won 4 of them), and have never finished ranked lower than 6th. ND is easily one of the top 10 successful programs of the last few years and we would crawl over hot coals to have OSU's success in that timeframe.

Ha, not koon…

I’ve watched this site for over 10 years, not sure why all of a sudden I decided to join.

The lenzy and colzie comments weren’t from recent posts, but now that I joined I’ll post links to anything I reference more recent.

Im high on Tobias. I think he and styles are next nd nfl wrs. I think one more year would have really helped Austin and ND.

As for Tobias, I would be disappointed if he’s healthy and only gets around 400 and 4. To me that would mean either I’m wrong about his abilities, he’s not mentally ready or our passing offense isn’t good. All 3 options would not be good for this years team. Tobias needs to be in two deep and rotation right away for nd to have a good passing offense with our depth issues. I’m targeting more yards like 600-700, maybe tds don’t come
But 6 to me could happen if we throw it in the red zone.
Alright, can't disagree with any of this. Given how rarely we've had a freshman with those numbers, I'm uncomfortable raising mine as high as yours. I agree that if we have a potent offense, it should be close to your numbers than mine. The 400/4 is still a very healthy freshman outing and with Michael Mayer and Lorenzo Styles and the potential of others breaking out could limit his targets.

I'm also a huge Lorenzo fan. I really expect him to emerge.

Ideology or Logic??? LOL. What was your major at ND?? Just curious.

FWIW, ".... so if you dont get a 5 star QB, your class sucks?" not sure what this even means since ND doesn't have ANY QB Commit. My post was neither about 5 star QB commit nor about the total class sucking.

Its about Receivers - elite ones late in the cycle. ND was supposed to have a QB and a good one committed. They lost the commitment. Now they have no QB commits. For a Wide Receiver, the QB Room is very important. Ours now is very much in flux. Clemson's QB room is very strong. That is a big difference maker - and this changed a lot when Moore left the reservation. No QB commit in 2023 and Clemson has one. I am sure Vizzina is in contact with Ronan.

Now, I hope you understand better. Its logic, not ideology.

We will always be relevant in college football from a historical context.
We just haven't been relevant on the field in quite some time.
I hope you're right and we are on the way back.
Define relevant? Is it a very narrow scope defined by beating Alabama, Georgia or tOSU?

If it's not that, then ND has been very relevant. Being one of like 4 or 5 teams to make it to the CFB playoff 2 or more times. When double digit games 5 years and counting and getting stronger on the recruiting trail.

I think the one downfall of the staff so far this cycle is putting their eggs into not enough baskets. If we don't land Ronan then what? We start going after guys we already told no? Same with safety? We turned down a few DB's already what if Peyton Bowen doesn't up in the class? At this point I think its 50/50 he flips

Yes. 100% they have been post 2015. Credit to OSU, but Championships are a better gauge of relevance than playoff appearances. Championships>Playoffs>Conference Championships>AP top 10

There is no "logic" in your doomsday drivel. You're melting down over a fringe 4 star ATH who still might very well end up here, it's just that confidence went from ~ 90% to maybe 50%?

Commitments:
Braylon James: 4 star, .945
Rico Flores: 4 star, .925

Committing tomorrow:
Jaden Greathouse, 4 star, .948

We will have three commitments by the weekend, all in the top 30, two in the top 20. If Hanafin comes, that's four commitments. If not, they'll identify another guy with potential.

All of this without a 2023 Qb, can you believe it?! Do you believe in miracles?!

Oh, that's right, we have a fringe 5 star QB on the roster with 4 years of eligibility and a 5 star QB committed in the class of 2024. And they're dishing out offers to 2023 QBs as we speak this week.

Maybe these teenage WR commitments are more capable of applying logic than you are? Seems to be the case.

Not doomsday drivel or a meltdown. Just facts. He’s gone and that’s the major reason.

Btw, the best tacos I have ever had we’re in Mexico City. Mexico City is a very underrated Food town!

Can you provide me with a link that shows "just facts" regarding the direct link between Hanafin and Moore?

That's where I have to differ. Just because LSU won a championship in 2020 and OSU in 2015, does not make LSU more relevant. LSU has been to one CFP, went 6-6 last yeas year, 5-5 the year before, finishing both seasons unranked. OSU went 11-2 last year (finished ranked 5th, 6-0 the year before (ranked 3rd, but Covid year, so I'll add another), and 13-1 in 2020 (ranked 3rd).

Man, the new posters are all feisty. Nothing but scorching hot takes. And they don't take shit from us old timers.
hopefully respectfully! :)

I love evaluating teams and talent. I have 1 or 2 contacts closer to the team, but i rarely ask for or get inside info from them. You won't see me posting much ever about "i heard this or that".

You will see me post about player evaluations, scheme, play calling, but i won't just blast. I'll give examples of what I think we/ND should or could be doing differently. The goal always being to win a championship.

You're getting better or you're getting worse. We're trending on the better side with coach and player recruiting. Results this season will be huge to keep that trend moving forward. 10-2 at worst, a good passing game, dynamic play calling, very few defensive head scratching plays/schemes, and not having players starting that would struggle to start for almost any power 5 team.

I know freeman had a scheme last year, but it's successful coaching 101 to put players in position to be successful, not to fit a specific scheme if you don't have the right people.
