Before anyone actually gets their hopes up, sounds like we are running 2nd or 3rd after the OV. Given that this is probably the only time he's coming to campus, I'd say we're pretty much done here.

Still a worthy attempt at hitting a homerun and good practice at getting those sort of players on campus where anything can happen.
While you're probably right, the big thing was if they can convince him to come up for an unofficial later in the year then all bets are off and we are assuredly in it. It would be an incredible coup but we certainly shot our shot this past weekend and he responded well to it. We'll just have to see.

Any one know if he is a good fit for ND? I've met a few ex-Alabama/NFLers. Some of those guys could DEFINITLY have done ND if they wanted too. Others would have gotten kicked out or wanted to transfer in no time ...

Yep, if he comes back on his own dime to see a night game that would be a gamechanger.

Got to crawl before we walk. That's about as good as I could hope for regarding a player of his caliber.
I've seen this perspective a lot, but like, we already landed a player in this class ranked more highly than him? I want Young in the class too, but it's weird that we're acting like this is practice for one day landing a difference-making five star when we already have one?

I saw he has a 3.5 GPA and comes across very well-spoken and humble in the few interviews I've watched. I get the vibe that he's not a big drama queen/attention seeker since apparently he doesn't like doing a ton of interviews. Comes off as a quiet, low-key, I'll let my play do the talking young man.

Eh... I think the difference is:
1. I cant recall landing a back of his caliber in recent memory.
2. The 23 and 24 classes are lining up where the kids we have are not only highly rated but also good fits for ND already or have ND ties somewhere in the decision tree... that hasnt been the case in recent memory either. Partly why BK let kids come to him and didnt chase these kinds of guys for 10 years.
and 3. I dont think that Young was on our radar as either a fit or a possibility, hence why when we learned we were getting an Official, the collective reaction was one of suprise.

Besides paying players which everyone can do now. Oregon has a disintegrating conference and a newby nothing coach. Why would they have confidence in anyone. Personally I think it’s still only 50/50 Dante ever actually signs with those crazy quackers

I could still see Dante at TAMU, USC, ND, LSU, or Michigan. OR recruiting is balls and will lose flavor if a bigger bag or job opp (I.e., asst. Hacienda general manager) comes around.

Yeah I assume one of the deeper pocketed big boys at a school that is actually desired in a conference with a future, will come along closer to the early signing period and buy off his handlers. And as disgusting as that is. Probably a better chance of this actually working out ok for Dante most places that aren’t Oregon particularly if it is somewhere far from Michigan that doesn’t bring Bophades along for the ride

Exactly what I have been thinking. Michigan won’t do it. As much as I hate them, they aren’t stooping. I despise Michigan, but the way they’re approaching NIL and the fact that they’re one of the worlds major research universities, makes me hate them a little bit less in terms of NIL. I also have several friends that wrestled at UofM and they’re some of the coolest people (and biggest bad asses) on the planet. But I digress, I hate them more than anyone. However, I really really hate TAMU and Bama.

Hang on.....people are surprised that Alabama got a top running back? Seriously?

How is this any different than the last decade?

Just me spitballing. Yes. Bama kills it in CFR. But how many of those dominant players that played for 'Ol Saint Nick have actually turned into studs in the league? Now I'm not saying that they don't put their fair share of guys in to the league? But honestly? How many of them actually pan out? Now look. I'm not trying to say that ND players that have gone pro are the greatest. But I just don't get the hype. Yes. They get the cream of the crop. But in my recollection. Not many go on to make a huge impact in the league. Am I missing something? Those who know better than me. Am I really missing something?

Are we talking just RBs? Cause LOTS of Bama running backs get drafted high (for running backs). That's kinda what a recruit is looking for right? Success in the league is a bit beyond Saban's control no?

edit - Going back to Mark Ingram (2012 draft), 10 in the first 3 rounds. 6 in the last 6 years.

This cat is like the 5th RB in Bama’s room. Wonder if he has any regrets?
