I'm thinking Group C is actually more dangerous than Group E. Everyone assumed whatever group Germany was in would be the "Group of Death," but I'm not so sure. Japan is still a tricky team, but I don't think the top 3 in that group is as tough as the top 3 in Group C.

No clear group of death here imo but groups C and H look the most balanced

Come on Scotland!!! If Scotland and US start the thing and both do England dirty over the course of the groups it would be a sports dream come true for me

Probably the most fair groups I've seen in a World Cup. No clear cut group of death. Obviously group A is easier, but it's always going to be that way if a host team isn't great. USA should advance and has a good chance to get to the final eight (unless they get the Netherlands in group of 16).

We need to win the group,… placing second almost certainly lands us against the Dutch in the knockouts,… winning the group should get us a very favorable draw otherwise

They’re calling ours the group of death,… I guess it is pretty balanced assuming Wales goes through but still,… considering what we could have landed I love our draw. If Scotland or Ukraine can pull the upset I REALLY love our draw

Qatar is not South Africa. They could most definitely cause issues for, say, Senegal.

Group of death? For who lol. Iran is not a bad squad but looking at the other Pot 3 teams, I'd much rather them than Senegal, Japan, Serbia, Poland, and South Korea.

Scotland/Wales/Ukraine should be 3 points for the US. Really hope it's not Ukraine because I see some cinderella shit taking place if they make it.

Group F or G for my money seem to be the groups of death. Canada is gonna cause headaches for aging Croatia. Group G outside of Brazil feels all equal.

I'd also say this isn't the Netherlands of Robben and Van Persie... if the US gets them in the round of 16, that is absolutely a winnable match.

Group I will be tough

Italy
Sweden
Colombia
Arsenal

USA plays England the Friday after Thanksgiving. No NFL football, most people off of work. That should be awesome.

Based on the knockout draw, it is better to not win your group for the one side of the bracket with Germany, Spain, etc.

Based solely on FIFA rankings:

GROUP A: Qatar (51), Ecuador (46), Senegal (20), Netherlands (10)
Average ranking: 31.75

GROUP B: England (5), IR Iran (21), United States (15), Wales (18) or Scotland (39) / Ukraine (27)
Average ranking: With Wales: 14.75; Scotland: 20; Ukraine: 17

GROUP C: Argentina (4), Saudi Arabia (49), Mexico (9), Poland (26)
Average ranking: 22

GROUP D: France (3), Peru (22) or Australia (42) / United Arab Emirates (68), Denmark (11), Tunisia (35)
Average Ranking: With Peru: 17.75; Australia: 22.75; UAE: 29.25

GROUP E: Spain (7), Costa Rica (31) or New Zealand (101), Germany (12), Japan (23)
Average Ranking: With Costa Rica: 18.25; New Zealand: 35.75

GROUP F: Belgium (2), Canada (38), Morocco (24), Croatia (16)
Average Ranking: 20

GROUP G: Brazil (1), Serbia (25), Switzerland (14), Cameroon (37)
Average Ranking: 19.25

GROUP H: Portugal (8), Ghana (60), Uruguay (13), South Korea (29)
Average Ranking: 27.5

Two of the possible opponents (Wales, Ukraine) put Group B as the toughest group, so I can kind of see their point. However, the only group I'd for sure take over group B for the US is Group A.

Manchester City v Liverpool

Referee: Anthony Taylor.
VAR: Paul Tierney.

I'm going back to bed.

I was listening to the Celtic State of Mind podcast on the way to work and they were discussing how Ange played only 3 players this weekend who were with the team when he took over. In less than one season he has completely remade the squad and is close to securing the title. Celtic's board completely sold off a quality side, handed Rangers a title for nothing and gave Ange a team without one striker, no healthy CBs, no healthy wingers and only one RB/LB with any experience at all.... and he has just performed a magic act... It's crazy when you really break it down. Even if they somehow choke this away Ange has been a gift from heaven.

Paul Tierney sure showed his agenda against Liverpool when he didn't send Milner off for a clear second yellow card back in October.

And the team has turned a huge transfer profit over that span as well. Celtic is set up for huge success over the immediate future. 1 or 2 key transfers, and they should have more than a solid chance to be competitive in their Champions League group next year.

Honestly, I'm just worried how long they can hold on to Ange for. Every transfer he's made, except maybe McCarthy, has been a huge hit. And none of them were huge prospects, or high profile guys either. Any Big 5 team that doesnt have the spending power of the giants should be looking at him. The Bundesliga in particular, seems keen on making smart, low cost transfers in general, I can see a dozen teams from that league wanting a guy like Ange.

Look at teams like Schalke and Everton, huge money generating teams that are the embodiment of mediocrity due to poor transfer and player decisions. Imagine what Ange could due with those resources.

Oh look, another liverpool fan with victim mentality

LOL. Let's just have Liam and Noel Gallagher as the linesmen, too, then?

Tierney is awful for everyone. Anthony Taylor is from Manchester. The Premier League puts them on the biggest match of the year while Michael Oliver is officiating a relegation scrap.

Not so much about being victimized as questioning the logic here.

You have to be fucking competent to have an agenda. He's just bad.

Tierney is pretty bad all around and to assign him VAR for the biggest match of the season while Michael Oliver is officiating Burnley vs Norwich is pretty typical decision making form the Premier League. He should be anywhere near this match. Missed a clear pen for Everton against City earlier this year. You find a match he's been involved in and many have a clear howler.

Tierney should have sent off Kane for his tackle on Robertson earlier this season, too. His issues are not just exclusive to controversy with Liverpool matches, either. He's also from the Manchester area, as is Anthony Taylor. I don't understand how they continually assign Taylor matches involving United or City. Seems like a blatant conflict.
