Tough loss. While FSU cooled off a bit from the 5-5 start to 3 pointers, they still shot the three point incredibly well in the second half. And we didn’t. Finish with a win on Saturday and on to the tournament

Their length always gives us fits - without Wesley we would have lost by 20. Found a way to make a good game of it with us cold and them hot. Always annoyed at how they line up athletic 7 footers and we struggle to man the paint.

That game was within our grasp on the road where we've never won. 0-7 now in Tallahassee if I'm not mistaken.

As others have said, came down to rebounding and poor shot selection. The offense just wasn't clicking in the second half. Outside of Wesley, it was just clunky. Not enough ball movement, settling for really bad shots, especially early threes. Thank God we play Pitt at home on Saturday to right the ship before the tourney.

Lunardi basically said this close road loss doesn't really change his outlook for this team and the Dance. He said they've been an 8-10 seed for the past month/month and a half, and this doesn't change that.

But man, I'm still pissed. That was a very winnable game.

I don't think rebounding was bad, it was just bad those two particular plays. FSU is a team that should own the boards on ND. Offensive rebounds were 12-12. FSU won the total rebounding battle 42-38. Really not bad for an ND team. A few times I even remarked at how much effort ND was putting into boxing out.

It really just came down to a few shots. FSU shot 41.5% from 3. ND shot 26.3%. If ND shot their season average, that's an extra 2-3 3 pointers and ND wins. It happens. Tough road game. As @Some Irish Bloke mentioned, it shouldn't change the outlook on the team at all.

I suspect if ND meets FSU again, that's a game ND wins by a few buckets.

On a neutral court, I tend to agree. FSU might be down this year but that crowd was still feeding a lot of energy to the 'Noles last night. Place was packed.

I know that Pitt isn't a great team this year, but it's great to see this team dominating the teams they should be. Big Nate and Cormac Ryan seem like totally different players the past few weeks and the team looks very dangerous going into the conference tourney.

Looks like Irish will get the winner of Va Tech vs either Clemson or NC State. Even though they lost to Va Tech in Blacksburg, the Irish are a much better team today than they were back then and I like this matchup on a neutral site. I think that one tournament win would likely secure an NCAA tournament seed around 7.

No chance we get a 7 seed with one win. We are sitting on the 10 line right now. Even 2 wins will be hard to get to the 7 seed line. Most likely have to win it all to get to 7 seed. Win 2 we are 8/9. Win one and we are 9/10 seed. Lose we are 10/11

So correct me if I'm wrong, but Brey was a botched game against Boston College away from an ACC Championship. That's the most Brey finish possible.

Shared ACC championship yes. Don’t forget the VT come back. Losing to a wounded FSU game on Wednesday.

I’d like to think we could and should beat Virginia Tech, but it’s definitely not a gimme, in fact I’d rather play just about anybody rather than them. Most of the rankings like NET and RPI have them ranked higher than us in the top 40. They’re also on the bubble, so every game is gonna be a must win for them. They’re a sneaky good team. Either way should be a good matchup.

100% correct re VT. They have handled us lately, we don't have an answer for their two bigs, Mutts and Alluma. (I'm looking at you Nate)

Wouldn't be surprised if we are slight underdogs.

I think we would be 3pt underdogs on a neutral court against VT

ND handled business yesterday. A nice win for the seniors. I told my wife I wanted to go to the game in case if this were Blake's last game at ND, but I think we at least get 1 more year with him.

Time for the team to turn into the road dogs for the ACC tourney.

Agree on Nate and Cormac. It was also nice to see Goodwin play well offensively, he was really fading the past month and change. If he can get his swagger back, this is a really dangerous team.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've been really impressed with Hubb lately. His shot selection has improved and he's been more of a facilitator and isn't jacking up too many of those early &/or contested threes. When he's operating as a true PG this offense is at its best, especially when he lets the shots come to him and isn't forcing the issue.

We have enough scorers around him and I think he's finally understanding that.

I've never been so excited and nervous at the same time about next year. So many question marks...

Does Blake come back?
Does Atkinson get an extra year?
Which seniors come back?
Do the incoming freshman live up to the hype?
Are there any other impact transfers that see the opportunity for something special and want to hop on this train?

If all of these go in ND's favor (and some seem very realistic), this team could seriously be the best ND basketball team ever next season. If they don't, it could be a very stressful off-season for Brey considering just about every player this season that is playing meaningful minutes could realistically be gone next year.

Regardless, I've really enjoying watching this team grow this season and they have far exceeded my expectations. Now let's go get a few more wins!!!

Per a ACCN broadcaster, sounds like Dane Goodwin already announced he's back. I'm less sure about Nate, Hubb and Cormac. I would assume that if he gets the Ivy League waiver, Atkinson will return.

My gut tells me that Wesley will come back to improve the draft stock and secure a lottery selection. On one hand, I get it, when the league comes knocking regardless of draft position, you take it. On the other hand, there's a HUGE difference between being a top 15 pick and a top 40 pick. Too many players get one contract and flame out and end up playing for way less overseas. I'm sure there are a lot of considerations for the young man, will be interesting to see what he decides. As you pointed out, he could also be the star player on one of the most competitive rosters we've ever seen at ND.

Cormac Ryan indicated a desire to come back in his senior day speech. Goodwin has been on the record for months as wanting to come back.

I missed the speeches, thanks for the info. That's welcoming news; streaky scorer, great court awareness and a solid defender. I love Cormac's energy.

On Irish Illustrated pod they said they believe Laz, Wes, Ryan and Goodwin come back. Atkinson is 50/50 if he gets another year. Wertz most likely transfers

Interesting. I'd assume grad transfer then? I don't see any way he gets a shot at the NBA, maybe G league.

Someone like Hubb who has zero shot of ever making the NBA would be a fool to rot in the G-League and make $40K or whatever it is when he can absolutely play in Europe and make 6 figures tax free.

Yep. Laz profiles to Europe too IMO he's not getting any quicker or more instinctive. But if Atkinson doesn't get another year I suppose there's a need for another year of Laz. Will need to get something out of either Zona or Taylor or the freshman big man as Laz is really not an adequate inside presence.

Wertz might make sense as a 3rd guard behind JJ and Wesley but that's his ceiling. If Wesley leaves we might need him tho. Better ball handler than either Ryan or Goodwin.

Want to see JR in the rotation next year but don't see where he fits with Ryan Goodwin and Laz all back.

They said he’s not coming back
well if the new PG comes in next year and lives up to the hype of being rated a top ten PG nationally and Wes improves then we may not need Hubb other than for depth reasons but Brey never plays a deep bench though

Ya JJ starling is gonna take over PG spot and hopefully be even better than Hubb. Jury still out obviously since he hasn’t played college yet but he is an McDonald’s All-American. He is a very good player
